In recognition of NationalDomestic Violence Awareness Month, which begins on October 1, Empire Beauty Schools across the nation will host the 4th annual National Day of Beauty to raise funds for domestic violence shelters.

Every 9 seconds in the United States a woman is assaulted or beaten, one in four women will be affected by domestic violence in their lifetime. These staggering statistics is the reason Empire Beauty Schools created its annual National Day of Beauty, which is a system-wide fundraising initiative to support the victims of domestic abuse on a local, and very much needed, level.

Beyond a one-day fundraiser for domestic violence shelters, the cosmetology school also participates in a unique program called “Cut It Out.” The program is a curriculum of special training designed to teach cosmetologists how to recognize the signs of domestic abuse with the objective of equipping the school’s students with the information they need to comfortably point victims to the National DomesticViolence Hotline.

For each beauty service performed at an Empire Beauty School during the event, 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated to local domestic violence shelters near the participating school’s salon. In 2011 the event raised nearly $40,000 in one day and an additional $75,000 in donations.

If you want to get a beauty treatment and help stop domestic violence at the same time, it’s as easy as calling the nearest Empire Beauty School to schedule an appointment on Saturday, October 6. Haircuts, styles, color, and nail services for women, children, and men will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and walk-ins are also welcome.
