Flower Beauty by Drew Barrymore Budget-Friendly Cosmetics Review

Most beautynistas know that Drew Barrymore launched Flower cosmetics for Walmart in January of this year. And perhaps dear readers, you, like The Makeup Examiner, blew off the line as just another celebrity beauty product endeavor. If we’re all truthful you know that as soon as you see a celebrity’s name attached to a product line, the skeptic in you rears its head. This would be why when TME caught the news of Drew’s makeup line; she just rolled her eyes and kept on moving.

Curiosity got the best of me, especially since Flower is a budget-friendly brand and The Makeup Examiner has recently reviewed several other budget-friend cosmetic lines. I started to investigate, first stop the Flower website. The Makeup Examiner spent quite a while perusing the sight and fell in love with the brand’s philosophy of “Love The Way You Look”. I could really feel this conveyed throughout the website.

Drew Barrymore, 38, gives these amazing tutorials for real women, which is what led The Makeup Examiner to take a slightly different approach to this review, enlisting my mother (with a 27-year age difference between us) in the review process. Now, 38-years-old is hardly older, but gorgeous Drew has a few lines, which I completely adore. Drew is a real woman creating a line to meet the needs of real women. Of course, who cares how lovely Drew is or how beautiful the website looks, if the products suck?

When The Makeup Examiner reviews products, what I’m searching for is a consistency, quality of pigment, and overall product quality. These factors are always important, but more so with a budget-friendly line like Flower with products ranging from $4.98 for nail lacquer to $13.98 for foundation. After all, whether you’re spending $5 or $50, if a product is horrible then you’ve wasted your money.

The Makeup Examiner was sent a plethora of products from the line … everything from Flower Easy On The Eyes Long Wear Eyeliner ($5.98 - 5 Shades) to Flower Color Play Creme Eyeshadow ($7.98 - 12 Shades) and was beyond thrilled to see each product labeled “Proudly Made in the USA” and “We never test on animals”. Two phrases that warm The Makeup Examiner’s heart! There is no doubt that the brand offers a complete line of makeup products and fashion-forward palettes. But again, who cares if they don’t perform? Let’s look through the list of products to find out!

Flower Color Play Creme Eyeshadow
Flower Color Play Creme Eyeshadow ($7.98 - 12 Shades) is so beautiful from packaging to product. This eyeshadow may be budget-friendly, but performs just like a high-end brand. The Makeup Examiner isn’t found of creme shadow formulas, but Flower creme shadows are so smooth, offer weightless application with no “dragging,” and all-day wear! TME’s mom loved the fact that the shadow offered a crease free finish, which is vital for mature skin.

Flower Easy On The Eyes Long Wear Eyeliner
Flower Easy On The Eyes Long Wear Eyeliner  - The Makeup Examiner is a liquid liner woman, with that said, Flower Easy On The Eyes Long Wear Eyeliner ($5.98 - 5 Shades) glides on easily and is great for both soft and high-intensity looks.

Flower Extreme Measures Lengthening Mascara
Flower Extreme Measures Lengthening Mascara ($6.98 – 4 shades 1 waterproof) has an amazing wicked wand that quickly coats lashes and the Red Seaweed formula offered mega-lashes. TME’s mom has sparse lashes, which can happen as we age, so she was highly satisfied with the lengthening formula.

Flower Win Some/Rouge Some Creme Blush
Flower Win Some/Rouge Some Creme Blush - The name definitely shows Drew Barrymore’s playful side. Flower Win Some/Rouge Some Creme Blush ($7.98 - 6 Shades) was another product in line that both TME and her mom could use and fell in love with. With a soft velvety feel, Win Some/Rouge Some Creme Blush offers the perfect kiss of color for older skin and buildable color for younger skin.

Flower Kiss Stick Velvet Lip Color
Flower Kiss Stick Velvet Lip Color ($6.98 - 9 Shades) offers intense color, silky feel and nice hydration. TME’s mom gave the stamp of approval for this one as there was no feathering and that was sans lip liner.

Flower Kiss Stick High Shine Lip Color
Flower Kiss Stick High Shine Lip Color ($6.98 - 9 Shades) is very similar to Kiss Stick Velvet Lip Color, but offers a major gloss. And if you’re looking for the perfect fall lipstick shade, check out this formula in “Rose Bud”.

Flower Line & Shine Lip Liner
Flower Line & Shine Lip Liner ($6.98 - 5 Shades) is now a TME favorite. The liner was a two-second perfect application! Aside from the ease of application, the liner glides on and offers all-day via a water-resistant formula.

Flower Lip Service Lip Butter
Flower Lip Service Lip Butter ($6.98 - 9 shades) is a true lip butter that glides on easily and offers mega-moisture. TME’s mom gave this the stamp of approval for an amazing moisturizing lip product.

Flower Sheer Up Lip Tint
Flower Sheer Up Lip Tint - The Makeup Examiner first applied Line & Shine Lip Liner and then Flower Sheer Up Lip Tint ($7.98 - 5 Shades) and fell in love! Although the Flower fact sheet states, “sheer pigment,” paired with the liner, Sheer Up Lip Tint was mega-color, mega-moisturizing and offered a fabulous high-shine finish. For those seeking a kiss of color, like TME’s mother, the tint by itself is perfect.

Flower Shine One Lip Gloss
The Makeup Examiner hates to disagree with Redbook, as Flower Shine On Lip Gloss ($6.98 - 10 Shades) was named a Redbook “Most Valuable Product 2013,” but my experience with this lip gloss in Lovely Lotus was less then impressive. TME found Sheer Up Lip Tint to offer a much higher gloss. But, before I deem this product worthless, The Makeup Examiner intends to try a few more shades.

Conclusion: The Makeup Examiner definitely declares Flower as an outstanding makeup brand, period. The fact that Flower is budget-friendly is simply a bonus and The Makeup Examiner has found a new love in Flower’s lip pencil. Thank you Mizz Drew for creating such an amazing line! Flower Beauty is available exclusively at Walmart.
