Winter Skincare Survival

Right about now, I’ve had it with Winter 2018! With spring not arriving until March 20, and genuinely warm weather a few weeks later, we all still have a bit of bitter cold to endure. Oh and that cold… what it does to our skin! From our fabulous faces to our tootsies -- even when our skin isn’t exposed to the elements -- it just seems as if winter sucks the moisture from everything. Yes, now is a good time to share a few skin saving finds!

Usually around the beginning of January, my hands are showing some serious winter damage. It’s weird… I have super dry skin on the palm of my hands! My answer to the uncomfortable (and ugly) problem is Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Touch Hand Cream ($15). This hand cream is the best I’ve found this season! It has the same luscious scent as Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream, is fast absorbing, and highly nourishing. Plus, selenium-rich Brazil Nut fuels protein enzymes to help keep cuticles and nails strong.

How about our faces? I feel as if there are times when I simply cannot win against the elements. Not enough moisture and massive dry, flaky skin. Too much moisturizer and I have an oil slick going on. I have found that the answer lies within listening to my skin. There are days when I need more moisture and days when I need less. My go-to this winter has been Baré Alchemy Serum ($90). With four different formulas, I’ve found it super easy to grab the level of care that I need on any given day.

On the subject of our faces, I have a year-round remedy mask that keeps my skin balanced Winter or Summer… Chantecaille Jasmine andLily Healing Mask ($84)! Let’s start with the fact that Chantecaille is a cruelty-free brand and I could go on about how much I love Chantecaille’s philosophies, but let me tell you about this skin saving mask. It was specifically designed for distressed skin! It smells like a bit of Heaven and taking five minutes to nourish your skin with the Chantecaille Jasmine and Lily Healing Mask feels like Heaven! Definitely a year-round must-have!

My pucker seems to have it’s own problems during the winter and by the looks of everyone in the office, I’m not the only one. I solve this problem with twice weekly “lip scrub” sessions using ECOLIPS Lip Scrub in Mint ($9.99). ECOLIPS is Organic and Fair Trade Certified packed with essential oils that nourish winter ravaged lips. I follow this up with L’Occitane Shea Butter Ultra Rich Lip Balm ($12) and I have tubes of this stuff everywhere! L’Occitane Shea Butter Ultra Rich Lip Balm is also Organic and Fair Trade Certified. And both ECOLIPS and L’Occitane donate proceeds to charities!

Just like my chapped, problematic lips my feet are well… ugh! I’m tough on my tootsies no matter what time of year, but the winter does quite a number on my feet. I work, really work at keeping them looking “sandal” ready. Hey, if I get the opportunity to go somewhere warm, I’m so out of here! I digress. For me, the go-to products have got to be Footlogix Exfoliating Foot File ($16) followed with Epcoh Sole Solution Foot Treatment by NuSkin ($30). The combination of these two products absolutely does the trick!

Rounding out my go-to winter weather products is a completely new discovery. Sebamed Moisturizing Body Lotion ($19.95) has a convenient pump and offers this amazingly long-lasting moisture for all over. I have very sensitive skin and a lot of body lotions cause me problems. So this is one that’s great for sensitive skin.  Sebamed's body lotion is recommended for normal as well as problematic skin conditions, such as eczema and psoriasis. You can use it after bathing or showering to effectively lock in moisture and hydration all day long.

Pro Tip: Ease Up On The Hot Water! While a hot shower may feel amazing on a cold winter day, that hot water is stealing hydration from your skin. Skin’s oils actually melt away under that hot water, add soap to mix and what you’re left with is dry, irritated skin. Opt for warm water and a short shower.
