Summer Travel: The Beauty Essentials

From the perspective of a reformed “over-packer,” whom we aren’t going to name, Team TME can tell you that vacation beauty doesn’t require a quarter of the beauty items that you think it does. That “over-packer” -- she used to travel with a suitcase just for her shoes, a carry-on filled with “essential beauty items,” and wear stilettos because who wants to travel comfortably when you can look “chic” instead? Bahahahaha. So, how did Miss “Over-Packer” become a reformed intelligent traveler? A sprint from one end of O’Hare to the other to catch a connecting flight… in those stilettos… plus lost luggage that contained even more “beauty essentials” and cured for life she was!

Team TME has become a group of seasoned travelers, and yes we’re apt to repack your luggage if you’re traveling with us. Whether it’s a weekend at the beach or the vacation you’ve been planning all year, we’re sharing our knowledge for traveling comfortably and arriving in style. To start, an amazing vacation or weekend get-away begins before you leave. Nothing is worse then not having the right products to keep you looking gorgeous and feeling great while you’re trying to relax, so a toiletry kit that is well stocked is essential!

Case It: Even the seasoned traveler needs a little help with organizing from time to time. The JOY Big Better Beauty Case ($30) ticks off all the boxes. The Case can be unrolled flat to view all of your beauty items and hangs for super easy use. And we would never recommend that you go anywhere without your sunscreen -- COOLA Travel Size Sport SPF 50 Guava Mango Sunscreen Spray ($20).

While You’re Traveling: Our number #1 beauty travel tip is to keep your skin hydrated while you travel and you actually can’t do that with a ton of makeup on your face. So opt for a natural look, especially during a flight. A flight is a great time to catch up on a little skin care and do a mini facial -- even if you travel by car you can still take this time to treat yourself. We recommend a hydrating layer of ELEMIS Superfood Facial Oil ($55) during your journey and DR. JART+ Dermaclear Micro Makeup Remover Pads ($20) right before you get to your destination. Do not forget your lips! Armani ECSTASY BALM in Soft Nude ($34) is the perfect mix of lip hydration with a touch of color.

Skin Savers: Travel really can stress out your skin and nothing is worse then arriving at your destination looking world-weary. We discovered the ultimate multiuse balm -- The Beauty Chef Beauty Fix Balm ($30)! Treat your lips, cuticles, elbows… anywhere your skin needs a little love, to a few dabs of this bit of deliciousness. Your skin will thank you with a gorgeous glow upon arrival.

Along with a good multiuse balm, facial mist is a must! We’ve told you about Golden Door’s Yuzu products and we’re sharing another that has entered The TME Beauty Vault. Golden Door Yuzu Face & Body Mist ($34)! A few spritzes of this hydrating face & body mist, and you will be renewed. The light citrus scent is summer in a bottle and is the perfect quick boost. It feels like a cool drink of water for your skin, and the formula is perfect for combating dehydration. Bonus: You don’t have to be traveling to enjoy this skin treat!

Jazz Hands: We’ve seen a whole lotta really scary places in our travels lately so don’t even think about traveling without bringing this one essential item! Hand Sanitizer! Pass on the skin-stripping, chemical-laden versions for one balanced with nourishing ingredients like essential oils. We like Baby Bum Hand Sanitizer Spray ($4) because it’s infused with skin-loving ingredients. After you sanitize, moisturize! Over the brutal winter we discover two hand creams that we cannot live without and they’re seeing us through travel time quite nicely. L'Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream ($29) or Sol deJaneiro Brazilian Touch Hand Cream ($20) are beauty must-haves and you won’t want to leave home without them.

Multitasking Makeup: No one wants to go on vacation without the makeup that they need to stun all, but who wants to pack everything on their vanity? We discovered a few perfect multitaskers that will be all that you’ll need to look amazing. Wander Beauty On-The-Glow Blush and Illuminator ($42) for the perfect all over glow. Gabriel Cosmetics Multi Pot ($20) is perfect for eyes and lips. jane iredale Pure & Simple Makeup Kit ($33) has absolutely everything that you’ll need to glam it up.

Skincare-On-the-Go: Although we know that it can be tempting, we wouldn’t neglect our skin, even on vacation. Lake, pool, or beach requires SPF and we absolutely love NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($43 - available in 11 shades and travel size) with its oil-free formula that provides buildable coverage. To cleanse your face, we love L’Occitane’s Aqua Réotier Water Gel Cleanser ($24) and a surprisingly awesome moisturizer is Olay Luminous Whip ($29).

Hair Care: RAHUA Voluminous Shampoo ($34) and RAHUA Voluminous Conditioner ($36) may seem a little pricey, but trust us… they are worth every penny. These formulas are organic, safe for color –treated hair, do not include the yucky stuff and smell like a bit of heaven! Do you want to wash your hair every day on vacation? We don't either. At night, spray OGX Extra Strength Refresh & Restore + Coconut Miracle Oil Dry Shampoo ($8) under layers at roots and brush through for lovely locks in the a.m.

Hair Stylers & Such: What would vacation be without an easy hairstyle and the proper tools? We love Revlon Soft Ponytailers ($5) that are available in an array of colors and are perfect for the beach and beyond. Of course there will be times when you want to coif that do and who’s dragging a full-sized dryer on vacation? Revlon Perfect Heat Fast Dry Travel Styler ($18) does the full-on job at a price point that can’t be beaten.  Babyliss Nano Titanium Mini Travel Straightener ($38) - The 6-inch mini straightening iron has all the benefits of titanium and ceramic plates and in a convenient, compact size. Plus, offers dual voltage for worldwide use.

Body Care: This is little item that we discovered a while ago and had to share with our readers. Spongellé Spongetté Coconut Verbena ($9) is a spongy buffer that’s infused with Coconut Verbena fragranced body wash, which envelops the body in a Coconut Water, Lemon Verbena and Crisp Bamboo aroma. This baby is good for at least 14 showers and it’s one less bottle in your bag! If you skin needs a little more love than the Spongellé Spongetté, we recommend The Ritual of Ayurveda Dry Oil ($29). Dry oil has kind of become a summertime staple, as it is fast absorbing, super-hydrating, and leaves zero residue, plus this gorgeous one by Rituals is great for your hair too!

Oral Care: It doesn’t matter how lovely your locks are or how glowy your skin is if you breath stinks! Violife Slim Sonic Travel Toothbrush & Case ($25) is large enough to fit your toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash like Marvis Jasmin Mint Travel Toothpaste ($6), DenTek Floss Picks + Case for On-the-Go ($2.99), and TheraNeem Mouthwash Travel Size by Organix South ($3.19).

Fragrance: You could play it safe and go with your “regular” perfume or walk on the wild side with a new to you fragrance like Armani Sì Passione Rollerball ($28). Along the lines of “fragrance,” Team TME is again going were going where many have gone before … but most feel uncomfortable talking about. Just as we’d recommended for “HolidayTravel” we are telling you that what happens in the bathroom needs to stay in the bathroom -- for all parties concerned. Enter The Porcelain Company, which offers travel sized “potty odor” neutralizing sprays ($12).

Wherever you travel this summer, we hope that it is memorable and fun!
Happy Summer 2018!  xo ~Team TME
