Teenager with cystic acne lands modeling job at NYFW

A teenager with severe acne has been signed up as a model for New York Fashion Week (NYFW) after a YouTube video of her covering her severe cystic acne up with makeup turned her into an internet sensation.

Cassandra Bankson endured years of bullying and even stopped attending classes, over the cystic acne, which affects her face, neck, chest and back. But on the strength of her step-by-stephow-to video, Cassandra has been signed up by modeling scouts and took to the catwalk for the Boy Meets Girl show on September 12.

“It feels like a dream to be here during Fashion Week. I am a different person from who I used to be because I’ve got so much more confidence now. I used to sit back and let acne ruin my life. But it got to the point where I needed to do something to get myself out of the rut.” Miss Bankson told the New York Post.

The ten-minute video, which propelled her to stardom, reveals how the teenager is able to completely cover her blemishes using special makeup techniques. Cassandra’s video views have reached a colossal 40 million. And it is now wonder why. The teen begins the video with an honest, heart-felt statement that any acne sufferer (or any teen period) can relate to.

“This is the most nerve-wracking thing I could do because it's my biggest insecurity. I am going to show you guys what I look like without makeup. It's awful. Pointing to a made-up picture of her face, she adds: "Then I'm going to show you how I apply my foundation so that I can look like this."

Cassandra revealed that she endured the nickname “virus” and had pizza slices thrown at her. The Makeup Examiner wonders who has the last laugh now? Congratulations on your first NYFW show Cassandra!
