Summer Makeup Palettes

With the official start of summer only a little over a month away, it’s time to get sexy, summer ready! As we update our wardrobes, we need to update our makeup also. Summer 2013 is a mix of vibrant color and pretty pastels. Regarding bold options for Summer 2013, unlike Fall 2012, where we saw and either or, as in either a bold lip or a bold eyeshadow hue, the bold option for Summer 2013 is about an all over strong makeup statement. Make sure to click through the list to check out a few of The Makeup Examiner’s suggestions!

What I’m seeing are beautiful bright hues for eyes and lips, like rich reds, popping pinks, and luscious oranges. On the flip side, are pretty pastel shades like powder blues, light citrus tones and lovely lavenders. What I’m not seeing is a ton of the “emerald green” that had been hailed as THE color for Spring/Summer 2013 although it is a shade in Illamasqua’s gorgeous “Paranormal Palette”. Two gorgeous lip shades to try are from CoverGirl’s LipPerfection line #275 “Kiss” for an interesting orange hue and CoverGirl’s Queen Collection Q510 “Into The Red” for a rich, vibrant crimson. Each lipcolor is priced at about $7, so this is a rather inexpensive way to try out one of the season’s amazing colors without a major financial commitment.

Although the unseasonably red lip is super hot for summer, I’m seeing orange incorporated everywhere in makeup. In seasons past for fashion, orange was the new “pink” with a plethora of fashion offerings to incorporate into a summer wardrobe and with this lovely hue, orange is being offered in everything from nail lacquers and eyeshadows to blushers and lipsticks. The Makeup Examiner is in love with the orange offerings! But, an all over bold makeup look is so 80s and better left there. Makeup is supposed to be fun and also enhance our natural beauty, no matter the trend balance is everything.

Rather then go full tilt with any trend, incorporate Summer 2013 trendy offerings by choosing a vibrantly hued lip that is paired with a pretty pastel eye. Or give your look a pop off color with nail lacquer. CoverGirl Outlast Stay Brilliant Nail Gloss ($5 at and Jesse’s Girl Cosmetics Julie G Frosted Gum Drops line ($4 at offer the season’s hottest and affordable nail color trends. For a water-based nail polish, Acquarella’s Spring/Summer collection ($16 at has amazing shades in “Girly” (hot pink shimmer), “Lumen” (luscious lemon), and “Hazard” (over-the-top orange).
