Good On The Inside, Good On The Outside with Recipes

This Article First Appeared On The Makeup Examiner May 5, 2017

We’ve been really big supporters -- more like super fans of Golden Door. But, you all knew that already and hopefully you’ve had an opportunity to luxuriate with a Golden Door skin care product or two. Each time that we find an amazing product of the Spa’s we share it with you and today is no different. Actually, we shared with you that this spa has its own Farm Stand and maybe we forgot to mention that Golden Door makes its own honey that has recently become available to all. And it is one more reason why we are such fans of this treasure in San Marcos, California.

Golden Door Farms Wildflower Honey ($18) is homegrown by world renowned Golden Door Executive Chef, Greg Frey, Jr. on GD’s 600 acres of gardens and citrus groves. Chef Frye is an experienced beekeeper that is passionate about raising honeybees to contribute to sustaining our ecosystem. To celebrate the launch of this delish, organic goodness we’re sharing Golden Door’s “Super Secret” Wildflower Honey Face Mask and an even more SUPER SECRET recipe … Momma Barbie’s Granola!

Golden Door’s Wildflower Honey Face Mask

  • 1 tsp mashed avocado
  • 1 tsp plain whole milk yogurt
  • 1 tsp Golden Door Wildflower Honey

Mix ingredients in a small bowl until smooth. Spread the mixture over your face, taking care to avoid your eyes, and sit and relax for 20 to 30 minutes. Rinse with tepid water.

Because this mask is so gentle, it’s one that you can easily use several times per week. And who doesn’t deserve 20 minutes of complete “me” time?!? Interesting facts about how this mask works -- the fats within avocado and whole milk yogurt are deeply moisturizing, while the lactic acid within the yogurt is a gentle exfoliant that leaves your skin smooth and stimulates collagen production. The mask is rich in Vitamins B, E, A, and D as well as manganese and magnesium, all of which are pure nutrition for your face!

Momma Barbie’s Granola

  • ½ cup Golden Door Wildflower Honey
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup canola oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 8 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds
  • 2 cups almonds
  • 1 cup shredded coconut (toasted)
  • 1 cup dried cranberries
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup dates (pieced)
  • 13x9 ½x2 Baking Pan

Preheat oven to 350°. Pour oats, sunflower seeds and almond into baking pan. Mix gently. Slowly heat honey, brown sugar canola oil and vanilla over a low heat stir occasionally until mixed. Pour over oat mixture. Add coconut and make sure that mixture is even in pan. Bake for 20 minutes, stirring often to ensure even browning of granola. Remove from oven and add cranberries, raisins and dates. Let cool completely and place in an airtight container. Enjoy with yogurt!

Momma Barbie cautions that you should keep a close eye on the shredded coconut when toasting it burns easily. Also, you really need to stir the granola about every five minutes for an even bake, and lastly … this is delicious and makes the perfect breakfast or snack so you can expect your granola to disappear rather quickly.
