Golden Door Introduces Marmalade - Pretzel Bread Recipe Included

I realize that this may come as a shock to some readers, but I’m going to share this information anyway… there may be more to life than makeup. I know, I know -- you all think that I’ve been day drinking again. Actually I could go for a glass of wine right about now, but it’s one of the bazillion things that my doctor says is a no-no for me. So to make up for no more day drinking, I took up baking. And today I’m going to share two things with TME readers -- Golden Door’s newest food edition and my Pretzel Bread recipe.

All joking aside regarding drinking, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s and had to make a radical lifestyle change. Honestly I had a radical lifestyle change prior to my diagnosis because I was completely exhausted all of the time, but I’ll share my tale of woe another day. Moving on… it’s safe to say that it’s well established my love for all things Golden Door -- from the brand’s organic skincare to its mouth-watering organic goodies! Who could resist Golden Door Irresistible Ginger Cookies? If you haven’t tried them, you absolutely need to! So imagine how thrilled I was to learn that Golden Door was making marmalade?!?!

Home grown at one of the most luxurious spas on the planet; Golden Door Marvelous Golden Citrus Marmalade ($18) is the newest sweet treat on the block! This marmalade is made simply -- with Golden Door organic oranges, lemons and grapefruits all created in sunny Southern California. GD products contain no chemical preservatives or artificial sweeteners, are non-GMO, all natural, organic, vegan, gluten and soy-free. I got a jar of this and decided that I had to make my Pretzel Bread.

Life is about the moments of joy and I get a ton of joy from simple things like making bread and enjoying that bread with a good cup of tea and a great marmalade. It’s one of those rare times when no one asks anything of me and I can clear my mind. I hope that you get to enjoy that too!

Pretzel Bread

2 ¼ tsp yeast
1 cup warm water
3 TBS brown sugar
2 TBS whole milk
4 TBS butter
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
4 quarts water
½ cup baking soda
2 TBS Kosher

  • Mix yeast, water, and brown sugar in a glass measuring cup and let stand until foamy (about 5 minutes).
  • While the yeast is proofing, melt 4 TBS of butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Mix in milk and set aside.
  • In the bowl of your mixer, using a dough hook, add 3 cups all-purpose flour and 1 tsp salt. Mix for a minute until blended.
  • Once the yeast is foamy, add to the flour mixture and then add the milk/butter mixture.
  • Combined all ingredients and mix on medium speed until the dough forms a ball that is slightly shiny.
  • In a large bowl, oil the bottom and add dough. Cover with a damp towel and allow to rise for about one hour or until double in size.

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F and bring 4 quarts of water to a boil.
  • When the water is boiling, slowly (very slowly) add the baking soda.
  • Remove the dough from the bowl and make two balls of dough the same size.
  • Add the dough, one at a time, to the boiling baking soda water and boil for 60 seconds on each side.
  • Place dough on a parchment lined baking sheet and sprinkle salt over the bread.
  • Repeat with second ball of dough.
  • Cook the bread for 22-25 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.
