Anyone else notice that the weather has turned just slightly chillier? We’ve found that the weather rarely goes by our calendar, but it’s almost as if Fall 2015 rolled in as soon as the autumnal equinox did. Honestly, we’re not complaining. Each season brings it’s own unique bit of happiness and fall is one of our favorite seasons. Most especially when we see what brands are offering! For Fall 2015 Petra’s Pixi Picks are perfect and very on-trend.

TME readers know that Pixi Beauty is one of our favorite brands. Between product quality, vast selection, and cruelty-free status how couldn’t one fall completely in love with this brand? For September 2014, Petra focused upon creating a flawless “canvas” with skin-loving products, but for October she’s chosen a “Futuristic” face.

Pixi Beauty Picks For September 2014 Beauty and a Happy Birthday



Like or not, Summer 2014 is just about over. But before you get completely bummed, think about all of the beautiful new fall collections! Toni & Guy Partner With Rankin For AW14 Campaign and Exclusive with Marchesa


RANKIN for TONI&GUY Hair Meet Wardrobe

Toni & Guy have teamed up with British portrait and fashion photographer, Rankin, to shoot the brand’s Autumn/Winter 2014 Hair Meet Wardrobe campaign. The campaign showcases hair styling fashion trends for the upcoming season. With Toni & Guy’s philosophy of “dressing from the head down,” Global Hair Ambassador Mark Hampton, with wardrobe by fashion stylist Anna Trevelyan, crafted four looks – Casual, Classic, Creative and Glamour. 

Since making his first mark on the fashion industry working for Dazed & Confused magazine in 1992, Rankin has become what Toni & Guy called “a true icon of modern photography”. Redken for Dolce & Gabbana and Ralph Lauren Fall/Winter Get The Look




Redken Creative Consultant Guido swept the hair up in a classic Dolce & Gabbana manner, which is synonymous with soft, romantic and truly elegant style. In order to achieve this airy quality to the hair, Guido used body full volume amplifier and a spritz of pillow proof blowdry two-day extender before twisting the braid into a soft updo. Regardless of the season, the Dolce & Gabbana look is always feminine and beautiful.

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created two beautiful looks this season for Ralph Lauren, as the designer previewed his Polo line prior to showing his ready-to-wear collection. Regardless, both styles had a cohesive feel in that they were both easy and gorgeous.

In 2013, the year of Shu Uemura’s 30th anniversary, the brand launched a new creative force: Shu Atelier. Directed by Shu Uemura’s international artistic director, Uchiide, Shu Atelier is comprised of a new generation of makeup artists … the disciples of Mr. Shu Uemura. In 2014, the Vision Of Beauty Collection debuted as the first edition of a new annual project by Shu Atelier to express Shu Uemura’s new vision and endless pioneering spirit.

Vision Of Beauty Collection Includes:

Brave Beauty Eye Palettes ($65) - Available in green, orange, and pink based hue palettes - The brave beauty eye palettes -- each containing six luxe eyeshadows -- pay tribute to strong, rebellious femininity with six different eye shadows in an array of shades and textures, from easy to wear pearl neutrals to eye-catching matte shades. These palettes can be used to create a soft and beautiful look or one that is both bold and daring. We received Brave Beauty Eye Palette in green and although the shadows offer an amazing amount of color delivery and blendability, we were less then enthused with the various green hues that are definitely not easy shades for most to wear.

Rouge Unlimited ($30) - Available in five shades: maroon, beige, fuchsia, rose, red and orange – Vision of beauty’s rouge unlimited lipstick offers a high color payoff, moisturizes lips and is a fairly longwearing lipstick. We’re in love with beige as it’s not your typical blah neutral. This particular shade is perfect to give your lips a little natural enhancement of color.

Satin Radiant Stick ($39) - Available in four different shades: light pink, bronze gold, pink and orange coral – Satin Radiant Stick is a smooth formulation that blends easily. It’s meant to be used as a highlighter or cheek color stick and the pink that we received does just that. Love the color and the kiss of glimmer.




Gel Pencil Liner ($24) – Available in three shades: green, violet purple and wine.

Collectors Edition Premium False Lashes ($500) – Limited edition lashes created by Uchiide.

Redken for Versace Fall/Winter 2014



Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a 60’s inspired hairstyle that felt in line with Versace’s own personal style. Unlike the natural styles that have dominated the runway this season, the hair at Versace was anything but easy, or natural. 

Once the hair was blown out straight, Guido team swept flat irons back and forth until the hair was stick straight. In order to protect the integrity of the hair, Guido used pillow proof blow-dry express primer and iron shape 11 finishing thermal spray.

2. Spray guts 10 root-targeted volume spray foam on crown

Pixi Beauty Fall 2014 Beauty Forecast




It’s the second week of August and summer has been flying by. It’s a bit of a bummer to realize that all too soon, the leaves will be turning and we’ll be headed into the cooler months. Of course, that happy flipside of the season changing is the seasonal beauty change. We here at TME are excited for all of the latest fall launches and were privy to get a sneak peek at Pixi by Petra’s Beauty Forecast for Fall 2014! So without further ado, let’s check out what Petra has in store for us!


On the runway, designers like Rodarte and Donna Karan offered up some bangin’ looks with metallic touches for fall. Inspired by these looks, Pixi by Petra has created are few gorgeous new and luxurious products to keep us on-trend for fall. Starting with two amazing Mesmerizing Mineral Palettes in Silver Sky #0653 and Rich Gold #0654, these new palette colors upgrade the classic smokey eye with shimmering hues of Cobalt and Antique Gold. Each Mesmerizing Mineral Palette ($12) contains six coordinated colors that are silky smooth for easy blendability and include a double-ended sponge applicator.


Next up for Fall 2014 are Pixi Nail Colours in Imperial Blue #061 and Olive Gold #062 ($8), which offer a smooth, chip-resistant application and have built-in UV protection to prevent polish discoloration. Imperial Blue is an insane deep navy blue that is destined to become one of the must-have hues for F/W 14-15 and Olive Gold is golden metallic olive shade that is on-trend for fall. Clinique Color For Fall 2014



Clinique launched two brand new products at the beginning of August and they are prime for Fall 2014. New from Clinique for Fall 2014 are Chubby Stick Baby Tint Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm and Chubby Stick Cheek Colour Balm, both of which offer rather interesting and unique experiences for women.

New Chubby Stick Baby Tint Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm ($17) is a collection of four sheer shades ranging from orange to pink to red and violet, that offer a unique and personalized color for each wearer and bring out your lips’ own natural tone. Working with a woman’s natural chemistry Chubby Stick Baby Tint Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm offers a revitalized look that will leave lips with the perfect amount of color that is exactly right for her. Each shade is complementary to the wearer and will appear differently on everyone.



Infused with Vitamin C, Shea Butter, Mango Seed Butter and Jojoba Seed Oil, this formula delivers a surge of moisture. Hottest Hair Trends For Fall/Winter 14-15 from Celebrity Stylist Bill Murphy




Fall is just around the corner … stop whining … we’re not any happier about it then you. Okay, we’re lying; we love all the seasons, as each one brings amazement of its own. And yes, we’re still in the throes of summer, which is why as an added bonus, Celebrity hairstylist and creator of Recitals Hair Care, Bill Murphy is not only sharing the most fabulous F/W 14-15 hair trends, but he’s is also shared a few summer hair care tips!

Here are Bill’s top five forecasts for the upcoming season:

1. I LOVE THE SIXTIES - The 1960s are back in a big way with mod fashions showing up on the runway. “Hairstyles always reflect what you wear,” says Bill. The angular bob made iconic by Vidal Sassoon will undoubtedly be resurrected but in a 21st century version of geometric shapes without the harsh edge. “We're looking at softer, more diffused lines, less stylized interpretations that don't go over the top," Bill explains. “And for long hair, think straight but with some volume on top.”

2. TWIST and SHOUT – “For the rest of the year, we’ll be seeing a lot of creative braiding and twists for hair,” Bill says. “There’s no right or wrong way to do it since you can really put your own spin into this. Whether you twist it up in a bun or let braids fall around your shoulders or in back, it’s a great new look.”

3. BOHEMIAN NEW WAVE - "Stylish, very modern yet very convenient," is how Bill describes the next trend. "I see this as the ultimate in versatility. It's somewhere in the middle of structured and carefree while remaining uncontrived. Think cascading natural waves. When you leave it down, it's strong yet romantic. If you want something more elegant, you just pull it back in a bun and let strands fall in soft, natural tendrils to frame your face. This gives you the ability to quickly adapt to circumstances whether you're going to work, going out to a formal evening, or spending a carefree weekend with friends."

4. IN LIVING COLOR - "Colors are getting eclectic," declares Bill. "It won't be about highlights and lowlights so much as an overall glossing. Women are experimenting more with rich, pretty or even offbeat colors. Fall 2014 Hair Color Trends with Celebrity Colorist Marco Pelusi



It may be difficult to think of fall while we’re all enjoying the gorgeous summer weather, most especially this past week when the weather seems as if it was order off of the “perfect summer weather” menu. But, soon enough we will be surrendering our breezy dresses and now’s the time to look ahead and checkout the forecast for the perfect hues for our lovely tresses. Who better to check in with then world-renowned celebrity colorist, Marco Pelusi of Marco Pelusi Hair Studio in West Hollywood? Which is precisely what I did!

In a TME exclusive, Marco offers readers the hottest trends and amazing hair colors for Fall 2014. Aside from being the “Master of Color,” Marco truly believes in making women feel beautiful and this is why The Makeup Examiner went straight to Marco for his expert opinion. Read on to find out what hues work for blondes, brunettes and redheads, as well as expert color care advice for the cooler months.

Yvonne: I’d read somewhere that Platinum Blonde and Metallics are the hot trends for Fall 2014. What do you think of this?

Marco: I definitely think that platinum blonde is making a comeback these days. The cycle fashion tells us that a trend [begins] as avant-garde, moves into fashionable, goes mainstream and then ends as outdated. And, goes back around to avant-garde. This has happened with the platinum blonde. It was almost been seen as outdated for a while, but I think it's been creeping in. Meryl Streep sort of hinted at it a few years back in “The Devil Wears Prada” -- when she wore her solid light hair -- and at that time, platinum blonde was still outdated but moving toward avant-garde. As with all trends, it takes a few years [to become mainstream], and now we are seeing more all-over blondes. So, yes to the all-over platinum blonde! Metallics I'm not so sure about.



For several seasons ombre has ruled as THE hair color trend and I really thought that the trend would finally go away. But with mega-stars like Jared Leto, quite literally rockin’ this look, and Jessica Biel sporting soft ombre locks, is it still a hot trend? What are you seeing as on-trend for Fall 2014? 

Marco: We are still feeling the bleeding in of the "sombre" … or, that is, the softer, summer/fall ombre. I had a strong feeling this trend would stick with us in its various forms, as it takes on a new feel, as time moves forward. This trend moves more into the ends being slightly sun kissed or tipped with a gradually lighter color -- this differs greatly from the previous strong line of demarcation from the old ombre -- where the hair literally went from black to blonde. This is a much softer progression, and in my opinion, is quite beautiful, and definitely feels on-trend throughout the fall. 



Who’s wearing the sombre look right now? 

Marco: My dear friend and client Carol Alt has a version of this look, more or less, right now. Her ends gradually, beautifully lighten up as you see her darker hair progress throughout. Additionally, I have to admit, I'm a huge Bravo fan. I'm acquainted with many people involved with the shows, and right now, Carole Radziwill of “The Real Housewives of New York” is definitely wearing a sombre.  Her hair beautifully starts out darker and bleeds into light, with gradual transition.


With many projects together, I know that you love your redheads and you are hands-down THE color expert. What about blondes and brunettes? What are the on-trend hues that will transition from summer into the cooler months?  

Marco: Yes I happen to love reds -- also red coloring is perhaps the most challenging for stylists/colorists to achieve -- that is, to capture a really, really good red -- and therefore my voice is quite specific in this area. However, I do create my own blonding/highlighting techniques. I’ve just returned from my annual presentations at the International Beauty Shows in Vegas, where I demonstrated this technique to hundreds of professional hairstylists. (Readers, Marco truly is a master at color and offers instructional DVDs on his world-renowned technique) The blondes who are on-trend will gradually add more lowlights -- deeper, richer, darker tones throughout their blonde hair -- to reflect the change in seasons. The brunettes can consider adding deeper and warmer tones -- again to reflect the change not only in the season, but the fall colors of the leaves, and everything around us. Brunettes can add a touch of deep gold’s and hints of reds/auburns; and moving into winter we can begin moving into cooler and darker browns.

You’ve taught us that color care is so important. Are there different steps to take during the cooler months to maintain our color? 

Marco: Indoor heat is always a culprit for drying hair as the fall is upon us. It's time for deep conditioning treatments. Nourish the hair as much as possible. Find a deep conditioning formula that works for you. Shampoo your hair, rinse, squeeze the moisture from your hair, towel blot, and apply the deep conditioner. Allow it to sit for 30 minutes, preferably in a warmer or steamier area. Then rinse. Additionally, when the weather turns colder, and our indoor heat goes up, applying a leave-in conditioner can become your friend!

Okay my lovelies, there you have it from the color God himself. Sombre will continue to be a very on-trend look for Fall/Winter 2014-15. Going platinum blonde is very in vogue and brunettes should embrace the natural colors of fall.
