Beauty Brands That Give On Giving Tuesday

Have you recovered from Black Friday and Cyber Monday? Well, get ready for Giving Tuesday! Today, we're reminded of the true spirit of this season and we're given a super easy way to participate. What began as a "give and get" avenue for businesses and consumers to donate to great causes during the holidays, has turned into a social media movement. And fortunately, this year many of our favorite beauty brands are donating up to 100% of their profits. Does it get any better?!?

Charlotte Tilbury - Make any purchase online and Charlotte Tilbury will donate 15% of its profits to Women For Women, an organization that provides resources and support for women living in poverty. Pictured: Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow in Light to Medium ($68).

Free People - The retailer will be donating 25% of all profits from online and in-store sales to Girls Inc., a non-profit that provides mentoring and programming for young girls. With a selection of dozens of beauty brands, there's a lot to choose from. Pictured: Kosas Color & Light Pressed ($34).

Purlisse - This skin-care set of eight products is an amazing deal on its own. But on Giving Tuesday, 100%  of the profits from the kit will be donated to Look Good Feel Better, an organization helping women in cancer treatment feel empowered. Purlisse Skin Survival Kit ($76).

Lush - This cult-favorite hand and body lotion donates 100% of its sales to supporting human rights, animal protection, and environment conservation efforts. Lush works with dozens of charities — from BreakOUT! to Keepers Of The Water Council. Lush Charity Pot ($7.95) .

Morrocanoil - It might be cold and dry out, but this hair mask will make sure your hair never shows any suffering. On Tuesday, 10% of all sales site-wide will go to Inspired By Women, a short-film series meant to empower women. Morrocanoil Intense Hydrating Mask ($64).

Today is a really good day to give back and finish up all of that holiday shopping! To learn more about Giving Tuesday and how you can participate, visit GivingTuesday.org

Movember Moustache Manicures and Easy ‘Stache Stencils

Movember kicked off yesterday, Nov. 1! Last month, the guys supported Breast Cancer Awareness Month, now it’s our turn to support them with some conversation starting nail art. But before we take to our nail lacquer, it’s important to understand why we’re supporting the gentlemen and to get a brief history lesson about the Movember movement.

Founded in Australia in 2003 with a mere 30 guys participating, Movember has developed into a global movement with approximately 3 million registered supporters. The objective for the guys is to grow out their mustaches for the 30 days of November, with bragging rights as the “prize”. But, by growing out their mustaches, guys gain an opportunity to educate others and raise funds for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer, which a whopping one in six men will experience their lifetime. For The Makeup Examiner’s gentlemen readers, who wish to participate, please visit Movember.

For us ladies, or even the guys, there are quiet a few trendy accessories to don and you can check out “Trendy Ways To Support Movember” for inspiration. Team TME has found that the Movember moustache manicure is the easiest avenue to show support for the Movember movement and to make this super simply, you can find a printable ‘stache stencil in the slideshow, as well as three-step style guide below.

Movember Moustache Style Guide:

1. Select a light base color so that your Movember moustache design really pops.

2. Choose one, or more, designs from the ‘stache stencil and place design either on the nail tip in a French manicure style, or mid-point and paint away.

3. Add a clear topcoat and you’re good to go.

Try each one of the stencils or change up the nail polish color. With Movember manicures, the possibilities are endless. For the hardcore nail art ladies, check out an easy freehand tutorial HERE. Just remember that whenever someone asks why you have moustaches painted on your nails, you let them know it’s for the guys!

Chantecaille Fall 2017 Save The Forest Eyeshadow Palette

Every minute, 50 acres of rain forest are destroyed, and two-dozen species become extinct every day. In the Brazilian Amazon, the world’s largest rain forest, deforestation rose in 2015 for the first time in nearly a decade, to nearly two million acres from August 2015 to July 2016.

We Need Our Forests To Keep Us Beautiful -- As the ‘lungs of our earth,’ our forests are the planet’s sources of oxygen and water, and act as agents to stabilize our climate. Chantecaille conservation focus for Fall 2017 is the crisis of our disappearing forests and the ripple effect it has on humans and animals, like gorillas, who depend on them for survival. Deforestation kills our globe’s natural green spaces to make way for relentless plantings of soy, palm oil and cattle grazing grounds. As the largest source of carbon dioxide emissions after fossil fuel burning, it causes 15% of global greenhouse gas emissions.

“When you realize the value of all life, you dwell less on what is past and concentrate more on the preservation of the future.” - Dian Fossey

Missing In The Mist -- Gorillas are slowly losing their grasp on this earth as their natural habitats, the forests, are being destroyed by deforestation. Chantecaille's trip to the Congo in the winter of 2016 showed the brand firsthand that these kind, intelligent creatures, which are 98% identical to humans in their DNA, are the perfect symbol of a changing planet. Deforestation is slowly reaching their habitats in the Congo and in Uganda, as the earth is tilled for human production and consumption.

SAVE THE FOREST EYESHADOW PALETTE ($85) -- The four shades in the palette were inspired by the lush, natural beauty of Virunga National Park in the Congo, home to some of the last remaining gorillas on the planet. From the spectacular early morning mist that rolls through the forest to the vibrant golden light in the sky at daybreak, the overwhelming beauty of this densely forested oasis served as our muse this season. A portion of the proceeds from the Save The Forests Eye Shade Palette will benefit the Rainforest Alliance and its energized, impactful work in protecting our planet’s dwindling forests and the precious wildlife that depends on them.

DAWN: A golden brown
VOLCANO: A rich brown
MIST: A pale pink highlighter
BAMBOO: A deep olive green

The Chantecaille Fall 2017 Save The Forest Eyeshadow Palette is currently available for pre-order online at Chantecaille Beaute and Saks.

Golden Door To Host Child Abuse Prevention Summit

Each year more than 3.6 million referrals of child abuse and neglect, that involve approximately 6.6 million children, are made to child protection agencies across the United States. According to studies by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the United States has one of the highest incidences of child abuse among industrialized nations with an average of four and seven children lost to abuse and neglect every day.

The Child Abuse Prevention Summit, Golden Door's first round-table forum focused on bringing about real and lasting change in society, will be a 3-day sponsored event held at Golden Door on how to stop the escalation of child abuse and neglect in America. Attendees will include leaders in the field of child abuse education and prevention as well as child advocates from the communities of business, government, medicine and academia.

"Child abuse is an on-going issue that will not go away on its own," said Kathy Van Ness, COO, Golden Door. "There is a report of child abuse every 10 seconds in the United States, and we need to determine together how to stop this from happening. Through the Golden Door Foundation, we pledge 100 percent of our net profits to support philanthropic child abuse-related causes. The Child Abuse Prevention Summit is the next step in our mission to positively change lives and to extend our responsibilities beyond our walls."

Currently, Golden Door works with The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NYSPCC), San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center, Palomar Health FoundationRady Children's Hospital and others to help stop child abuse and bring awareness to the cause. The Golden Door Child Abuse Summit will take place May 20–May 23, 2018, at Golden Door in San Marcos, CA. This three-day summit provides in-depth discussions and speakers on how to end child abuse. For more information visit Golden Door online.

About Golden Door: The Golden Door Foundation was founded in 2013 to show support to improving our communities, both globally and locally. Golden Door is passionate about the values and principles that we share with our beneficiary charities and believe in changing lives. We believe that responsibility extends beyond our walls.  As a show of support to those involved in making the world a more loving, more humane and more peaceful place. 100% of Golden Door profits go to help end child abuse and transform young lives.

World Elephant Day: How Will You Celebrate?

World Elephant Day is tomorrow, August 12th and how will you celebrate these beautiful creatures? Did you know that elephants are the planet's largest living land mammals? Elephants symbolize strength, wisdom, and intelligence -- and with good reason. Elephants, like humans, will care for one another’s babies and mourn the loss of one another. Known as Africa's Gardeners, they clear new paths in the bush and disperse seeds contributing to the ecosystem. Sadly, the threat to elephants from ivory poachers is greater than ever with an estimated 38,000 elephants killed annually for their tusks.

Before we tell you what we’re doing to celebrate one of our favorite creatures, we need to give a shout out to a brand that has a long-standing commitment to philanthropic endeavors surrounding wildlife and the environment -- Chantecaille. In 2012, Chantecaille launched its limited edition “Elephant Palette” and “Elephant Cheek Colour.”  Proceeds for these products were donated to The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, who Chantecaille has partnered with in the past.

L to R "Elephant Palette" & "Elephant Cheek Colour" Currently SOLD OUT

Chantecaille continues to strengthen its commitment to philanthropic causes each season with the launch of “cause-metics” that raise awareness for issues that need immediate attention today. The limited edition “cause-metic” palettes have been influential in educating a broader audience and engaging more people in conservation and global issues … we’ll be bringing you Chantecaille’s newest limited edition cause-metic, as well as the Fall 2017 Chantecaille Collection soon -- so stay tuned!

As for World Elephant Day we look to The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. The Trust works on the front line -- in the field, to protect the elephants, treat and rescue victims of the ivory trade, and educate people on the importance of these great creatures. Speaking of victims, many baby elephants become orphans due to the illegal ivory trade. One way in which you can celebrate World Elephant Day is to foster a baby elephant! That’s how we’ll be celebrating. This is, of course, not the only thing that you can do. Visit The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to learn more about these elegant creatures and what you can do to help.

Happy World Elephant Day! ~xo Team TME

Golden Door Partners with NYSPCC During Child Abuse Prevention Month

We’ve written so often about Golden Door Spa -- its products are amazing, as is the Spa's philosophies for living. The Golden Door has had longstanding endeavors toward child abuse prevention and is taking them one step further by partnering with The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NYSPCC) for its Sixth Annual Spring Luncheon to Combat Child Abuse. The Luncheon is tomorrow, Wednesday, April 19th with proceeds benefiting NYSPCC’s Trauma Recovery and Safe Touches programs and help fund its counseling, legal and educational programs to prevent abuse and help more children and families heal.

6.6 million children are victims of child abuse or neglect each year in the United States, and more than 70% of the children who died because of child abuse were two years of age or younger. These alarming statistics is why world renown spa, Golden Door and NYSPCC will be working together to combat this serious problem. And it begins with a conversation.

“In the current world that we live in, child abuse and neglect is running rampant and is a real epidemic,” said Kathy Van Ness, COO/General Manger, Golden Door, “There is a report of child abuse every ten seconds in the United States; we need to come together to make a change to stop this from happening.”

The Spring Luncheon will feature guest speaker, Eric MacLeish, the renowned Boston attorney who has represented some of the most significant sexual abuse cases in the country and is the attorney portrayed in the award-winning film, "Spotlight." During his remarks at the Luncheon, he plans to discuss the parallels he sees between the cases he’s worked on in the past, and the current, high profile sex abuse cover-ups making headlines. He will also discuss how schools and parents can get involved to toughen existing laws to better protect students in private schools.

“We are so grateful for the continued support of New York’s leading philanthropists business, media, and government community who come together at the Spring Luncheon to ensure that New York’s children in crisis - and their families - can continue to benefit from essential treatment and prevention programs,” said Mary L. Pulido, Ph.D., Executive Director of The NYSPCC.

Individual tickets and tables for the Spring Luncheon are available for purchase. Proceeds will support The NYSPCC and help give vulnerable children the chance to heal and move forward to live happy, healthy lives. While you may not live in New York, you can still learn how to get involved in child abuse prevention -- visit ChildHelp.

Support International Women's Day 2017 with L’Occitane Solidarity Balm

Each year, to mark International Women’s Day on March 8th, L’Occitane pays tribute to the women of Burkina Faso. It was in Burkina Faso, in the early 1980s, that Olivier Baussan first discovered shea butter -- an exceptional ingredient that both nourishes and protects. Since then, over 30 years of shared history have built a bond between L’Occitane and the women of Burkina Faso. To keep this bond strong, the L’Occitane Foundation has chosen to focus its actions on their economic emancipation by supporting -- in particular -- literacy, training and microcredit programs in Burkina Faso.

For International Women’s Day 2017, L’Occitane has introduced Limited Edition Shea Violet Solidarity Balm ($6) that features a tin with designs in bright and bold African wax prints, replicating those that decorate the clothes of the Burkinabé women. This multipurpose balm contains 98% fair trade shea butter, and is accentuated with a light violet scent. Enriched with Shea Butter, it helps nourish, soften, and protect the lips, body, and hair -- and slips easily into your handbag, so you can keep it with you wherever you go. The L’Occitane Foundation is donating 100% of sales profits to organizations that promote women’s entrepreneurship.

In 2009, the L’Occitane Foundation began working in partnership with the French NGO Entrepreneurs duMonde on a multi-year project. Developed with the microfinance institution ASIENA, it aims to promote economic self-sufficiency and an entrepreneurial spirit among Burkinabé women.

The project focuses on two main themes:
  • Providing financial support for women, so that they can develop income-generating activities
  • Assisting these women by providing socio-economic training, to build up their entrepreneurial skills

“Microcredit has enabled me to start up my business selling dolo. As this business was doing well, I was able to take out three other loans to develop other activities. My standard of living has vastly improved.” - Marie

“I took out a microcredit loan so that I could build up a stock of coconuts and ginger juice to sell on the market. This enables me to complement the income I already make from shea butter so that I can be financially autonomous all year long.” - Barkissa

An ambitious microcredit project -- To date, over 900 women have learned to read and write in the 31 literacy centers opened by the L’Occitane Foundation, while over 6,000 women have benefited from microcredits.

Since the L’Occitane Foundation’s creation in 2006, over 15,000 women have received a support in developing and strengthening their business. In 2014, the Foundation decided to extend its operating field and engaged new actions for women’s leadership on the French territory, with a focus on Provence. To learn more about the L’Occitane Foundation visit L’Occitane Foundation online and to purchase Shea Butter Violet Solidarity Balm visit L’Occitane.

Inspired by three exceptional female conservationists, the shades BEE, ELEPHANT, and LION, were created to bring awareness to the issues threatening these species in Africa, as well as three women who work tirelessly and passionately to protect them. Motifs of the three species adorn the lids of each shade they inspired, and 5% of the proceeds will be donated to the following:

What could be better for summer than a super cute, lightweight t-shirt, where all the proceeds are donated to charity?

Tata said of the collaboration: “We are both luxury brands & have both raised the standards for the way luxury brands do business by taking on the challenge of sourcing ethically & using sustainable materials.”

The partnership came together in support of the Breast Cancer Fund’s Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, because they believe you deserve quality products made with real ingredients by real people … so that you look really cute. Tata Harper and Maiyet will donate $30 to the Breast Cancer Fund's Campaign for Safe Cosmetics from the sale of each t-shirt.

Together, they are raising awareness and donations for the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics with the sale and promotion of these shirts. This important foundation advocates for legislation and company policy to protect our health and eradicate harmful ingredients from personal care products.

In addition to their current actions to raise awareness and funds, Tata Harper and Maiyet will contribute an additional donation of $1 for every post of Instagram tagged with #kissmeimnontoxic through August 31st that features the t-shirt or brand products. All profits from their shirts will be donated to the Breast Cancer Fund. You can grab this cute t-shirt at TataHarper!

Support International Women's Day with L’Occitane Shea Butter Rose Solidarity Balm

Every year, to mark International Women’s Day on March 8th, L’Occitane pays tribute to the women of Burkina Faso. It was in Burkina Faso, in the early 1980s, that Olivier Baussan first discovered shea butter -- an exceptional ingredient that both nourishes and protects. Since then, over 30 years of shared history have built a bond between L’Occitane and the women of Burkina Faso. To keep this bond strong, the L’Occitane Foundation has chosen to focus its actions on their economic emancipation by supporting, in particular, literacy, training and microcredit programs in Burkina Faso.

For International Women’s Day 2016, L’Occitane has introduced Shea Butter Rose Solidarity Balm ($6), which is a rose fragranced balm with a unique design inspired by African Wax tissues specially conceived for Women's Day. Enriched with Shea Butter, it helps nourish, soften, and protect the lips, body, and hair -- and slips easily into your handbag, so you can keep it with you wherever you go. Team TME was highly impressed with this deliciously scented multi-purpose balm, and the fact that the L’Occitane Foundation is donating 100% of sales profits to organizations that promote women’s entrepreneurship is a beautiful bonus for an outstanding product.

In 2009, the L’Occitane Foundation began working in partnership with the French NGO Entrepreneurs du Monde on a multi-year project. Developed with the microfinance institution ASIENA, it aims to promote economic self-sufficiency and an entrepreneurial spirit among Burkinabé women.

The project focuses on two main themes:
  1. Providing financial support for women, so that they can develop income-generating activities
  2. Assisting these women by providing socio-economic training, to build up their entrepreneurial skills
“Microcredit has enabled me to start up my business selling dolo. As this business was doing well, I was able to take out three other loans to develop other activities. My standard of living has vastly improved.” - Marie-Claire

“I took out a microcredit loan so that I could build up a stock of coconuts and ginger juice to sell on the market. This enables me to complement the income I already make from shea butter so that I can be financially autonomous all year long.” - Barkissa

An ambitious microcredit project -- To date, almost 900 women have learned to read and write in the 31 literacy centers opened by the L’Occitane Foundation, while over 6,000 women have benefited from microcredits.

Since the L’Occitane Foundation’s creation in 2006, over 15,000 women have received a support in developing and strengthening their business. In 2014, the Foundation decided to extend its operating field and engaged new actions for women’s leadership on the French territory, with a focus on Provence.
