New Redken Haircolor Technique

“Beauty as a form of art” has been taken to new heights this week thanks to Redken colorist Chiala Marvici who has created a mesmerizing new haircolor technique – hand-pressed coloring – that is sure to take the streets by storm this fall.

Inspired by a painting in her apartment, the New York City-based colorist describes the new haircolor technique as screen printing for the hair, ultimately creating unique colors and patterns on the hair itself using none other than glass. Check out Chiala's technique

According to Chiala, hand-pressed coloring begins by creating a design of different patterns (circles, diagonals and swirls) and different shades of Redken color on a 6-inch-wide sheet of very hard plexiglass. A section of hair is then placed flat onto the glass, which directly transfers the design from the plexiglass to the underside of the hair. Using a long putty knife, the hair is pressed into the pattern to saturate the top side of the hair as the color seeps through the strands. To repeat the pattern, the color and pattern is reapplied to the glass and placed onto the next section of hair. With processing time only lasting between 30-45 minutes, the technique is a quick and sure-fire way to grab attention this season!

“The technique is a fast way to create cool effects on the hair and gives the colorist options to create effects on the hair in less time than traditional applications!” says Redken colorist and creator of the hand-pressed coloring technique, Chiala Marvici.
