At Home Spa Beauty On A Budget

Every beautynista is saying, “I can’t believe it’s August!,” and it’s true that summer seems to have flown by. But there’s still plenty of summer weather left, which also means that there are plenty of skin-baring outfits to be worn. Even after we put our summer dresses in the back of the closet, we still need to take care of our skin. So with the help of EcoTools and a few new products from their Spa Bath Tools Collection, we can easily wrap up summer and head into fall with lovely skin. Not to mention, we can also enjoy at home spa treatments throughout the winter!

The Makeup Examiner has fallen in love with EcoTools budget-friendly, eco-friendly and effective spa tools. Of course, it doesn’t matter how fabulous our spa tools are if we don’t take care of our skin. It’s time for a quick refresher on skin care and how we can integrate budget-friendly beauty products into an at home spa experience. The first line of defense will always be sunscreen and with so many brands incorporating SPF into their products, there is no excuse not to protect your skin. Scroll down for a DIY Organic Skin Treatment and a breakdown of all the products that you’ll need for an at home “day at the spa”! [DIY Beauty recipes]

We’re heading into one of the busiest times of the year … back-to-school. It’s important to remember that you need to take time for yourself and not to feel guilty about it! To help alleviate any guilt, know that taking care of yourself allows you to take care of others and that with these tips, you haven’t spent a fortune

Sunscreen is a must - The Makeup Examiner often mentions the necessity of a good skin care regimen. Of course the first line of defense is SPF because no matter how many treatments you try, you can’t undo sun damage. SPF 15 is the minimum; opt for products with SPF 30 or higher.

Baking Soda Scrub

  • 2 to 3 Tbsp. Baking soda
  • Small amount of water
  • Mix the ingredients into a paste
  • Using a circular motion, apply to face and gently scrub
  • Leave on skin for 10 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water

Spa Headband & Comb ($5.99), the bamboo comb gently detangles hair and can be used for deep conditioning treatments. The soft headband is perfect for holding back hair during your beauty routine and keeping product from getting into your hair. [DIY Deep Conditioning Recipe andMoisturizing Facial]

Shower Cap & Storage Case ($6.99), a shower cap helps maintain healthy-looking hair and protects from shower moisture. Use the waterproof EVA side with a deep conditioning treatment for faster results and enhanced conditioning.

Spa Moisture Gloves ($3.99) are amazing for an easy at-home luxury treatment. Apply hand cream and slip on the spa gloves for 30 minutes. For a deep moisturizing treatment, apply coconut oil and wear the spa gloves overnight.

Spa Moisture Socks ($3.99) have become a TME favorite. I’m probably as doubtful as the next person when it comes to inexpensive beauty treatments, but the spa moisture socks worked incredibly well and are rather comfortable to wear overnight. The Makeup Examiner slathered on her favorite lotion, slipped on the socks, and awoke to soft feet. This is the best at-home pedi treatment!

Bath & Shower Gloves ($3.99) are another TME favorite. Made of 65% recycled PET, their eco-friendly and effective for an all over invigorating body scrub in the shower. It’s as simple as wetting the gloves, applying your favorite body wash and ta-da … clean and refreshed skin. Follow up with your favorite body lotion.

Take Care - Just as you would clean and care for your makeup brushes, you need to properly care for your spa tools.

  • Spa Headband - hand wash and hang dry
  • Bamboo Comb – wash with gentle soap and pat dry
  • Shower Cap – thoroughly hang dry your shower cap after each use and store in bag
  • Spa gloves and socks – wash after each use and dry flat
  • Bath & Shower Gloves – remove excess water and hang dry
  • Replace – remember that all things have a finite lifespan

EcoTools Reveals Women Beauty Secrets

EcoTools announced on March 25, survey results of the “Living Beautifully Survey” which reveals why our love of makeup is here to stay. The survey, conducted by EcoTools, explored how and why women wear makeup, our must-have items and how the latest trends influence our makeup style.

We already know that women have had a strong connection to cosmetics … beginning with Cleopatra's kohl-rimmed eyes. But today’s woman seeks to emulate the look of those oh so stunning Hollywood celebrities. Survey findings reveal that three in 10 women want to attain Jessica Biel's natural beauty, while another 30 percent desire Jennifer Lopez's radiant glow and thirteen percent covet Mila Kunis' smokey eyes.

Brushing up on makeup application … More than 98 million American women, ages 18 years and older, wear makeup. The average age for women to begin using makeup is 16 and despite years of makeup application experience, only 13 percent of women feel they are extremely knowledgeable about using makeup brushes correctly.

Further findings of the survey reveal that 56 percent women say it's important to have their makeup bags, complete with cosmetics and tools, with them wherever they go and would never leave home without their makeup bag. Nearly seven in 10 users tend to use the same set of makeup brushes for all the looks they create, transitioning from natural to a night out.

With so many women wearing makeup, it's no wonder there are a multitude of reasons for getting glammed up. Topping the list, 81 percent of women say they do something to give their face a youthful glow, such as wearing makeup or coloring their hair. 55 percent say they feel more confident when wearing makeup, and they spend the time to prove it. On average, women spend 12 minutes applying makeup each day, and 37 percent spend 15 minutes or more of their time to apply their cosmetics.

When it comes down to flaunting our favorite feature, it's a toss-up between lips and eyes. Fifty eight percent of us almost always apply lip color before leaving the house while others accentuate their eyes with mascara (53 percent), liner (48 percent) or shadow (36 percent) before walking out the door. And, in a nod to recent trends, more than half of women would consider applying false eyelashes for a special event.

Nearly three in 10 women have never swapped out old brushes for new ones. (Yuck! Makeup Brush 101!) Of those who do, 40 percent say they wait until the bristles begin to fall out. Given that makeup brushes, just as with cosmetics, have a finite lifespan, it’s important to find quality, affordable brushes. The Makeup Examiner has shared with readers that EcoTools added several new additions to their line of earth-friendly makeup brushes. New 2013 individual products include the Face & Body Sculpting Brush ($12), Large Foam Applicator ($6), Deluxe Fan Brush ($7) and Detailed Lip Brush ($4). Sets include the Fresh & Flawless Five Piece Complexion Set ($15) and Day-to-Night Set ($17).

The new makeup brushes are now available in stores everywhere, so there is no excuse not to switch out your brushes! All EcoTools brushes are made with bamboo handles, recycled aluminum ferrules and super-soft and cruelty-free synthetic bristles. To find a retailer near you, visit www.ecotools.com/where-to-buy.

For a Romantic Night In, EcoTools suggests a naturally polished look that focuses upon a fresh glowy skin and mega lashes. Begin by prepping your skin with a primer. Use EcoTools’ precision foundation brush to sweep on precise foundation coverage. Apply concealer with the flat concealer brush and blend with the buffing brush. Set your foundation with a loose powder using the full powder brush for an airbrushed finish.

Apply a shimmery cream shadow to your entire lid with your stay-there shadow brush from EcoTools Day-to-Night set. Follow that with the smudge brush, from the same set, to define your crease with a neutral-hued shadow, and finish with a shimmery bone colored shadow to highlight the inner corners of eye and just under the brow bone.
