L’Oréal Paris Met Gala Get The Look

For 2016, the Met Gala which occurred last night may 2, was centered on the idea of "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology". And as with previous years, the Red Carpet sizzled. Directly from L’Oréal Paris, we have the Red Carpet looks for Brie Larson, Emma Stone, Mackenzie Davis and Karlie Kloss!

 BRIE LARSON (HAIR)

HAIR STYLIST: Mara Roszak, L’Oréal Paris Celebrity Hairstylist

INSPIRATION: “Brie wore this modern, cool-girl Proenza Schouler dress, which was glamourous, yet very wearable. We wanted the hair to have a wet look and feel simple and relatively casual and effortless.”

  1. On damp hair, Mara applied L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Extreme Style Gel with a wide-tooth comb. She used enough gel to cover the hair without it feeling overly saturated with product.
  2. Next, she had Brie tilt her head back and gathered hair into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck, applying a bit more gel on the ponytail.
  3. She then used a ghd air hairdryer to blow dry hair until hardened.
  4. Next, she took a little piece of hair and wrapped it around the elastic of the ponytail, fastening with a bobby pin.
  5. Mara used L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle TXT IT Tousle Waves Spray to completely saturate the hair, creating a dampened look.
  6. To finish, she applied L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Extreme Style Gel again to through the ponytail to keep it secure.

EMMA STONE (HAIR)

HAIR STYLIST: Mara Roszak, L’Oréal Paris Celebrity Hairstylist

INSPIRATION: “Emma wore this gorgeous white, flowy Prada gown with sharp gun metal details for an ethereal yet edgy look. We wanted the hair to have a strong, powerful presence.”

  1. Mara started by washing Emma’s hair with L’Oréal Paris Advanced Haircare Extraordinary Oil Shampoo and conditioning with L’Oréal Paris Advanced Haircare Extraordinary Oil Conditioner.
  2. Then, Mara prepped Emma’s hair with L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Boost It Volume Inject Mousse and parted it off to the side. To disguise Emma’s bangs, she pinned them off to the side.
  3. Next, using a small round brush and ghd air hairdryer she blow dried the hair to create volume.
  4. Then, she pin curled hair and sprayed all over with L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Strong Hold.
  5. After several minutes, Mara took the pins out and used the 1 ¼ inch ghd Curve Soft Curl Iron to go over the curls.
  6. Next, she brushed out the curls to create looser waves, spritzed all over with L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Sleek it Stand-Smoother Serum Spray for shine and applied L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Strong Hold to keep hair in place.

MACKENZIE DAVIS (HAIR)

HAIR STYLIST: Mara Roszak, L’Oréal Paris Celebrity Hairstylist

INSPIRATION: “Because Mackenzie wore an intricate, detailed gown, we wanted the hair to have a simple, modern feel.”

  1. Mara prepped Mackenzie’s damp hair with L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Curve It Elastic Curl Mousse and used a blow dryer to rough dry
  2. Next, she applied L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle BOOST IT High Lift Creation Spray to add texture and volume to the hair.
  3. For a workable hold, Mara applied about a pea-size amount of L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle TXT IT Hyper-Fix Putty.
  4. She then gathered the hair and pulled back into a bun, securing with multiple bobby pins. Mara purposely let some of the bobby pins shows in order to create an effortless style that looked as if Mackenzie could have created it on her own.
  5. Lastly, she pulled some pieces out around the face and applied L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Extra Strong Hold to lock the hair in place.

KARLIE KLOSS (MAKEUP)

MAKEUP ARTIST: Sir John, L’Oréal Paris Celebrity Makeup Artist

INSPIRATION: “Karlie’s dress was the ultimate influence tonight. She wore a very cool design by Brandon Maxwell, so we wanted to keep the look fresh and hip. We went for contrasting textures with her skin and lips and also opted for a very dramatic lash.”

  1. To start, Sir John prepped Karlie’s skin with Youth Code Skin Illuminator All-in-1 Moisturizer SPF 20 to help moisturize and start building the ultimate glowing effect.
  2. Next, he worked on Karlie’s brows, first penciling in with Brow Stylist Definer, then brushing the brows high with the spoolie end. He then finished with a spritz of Elnett Satin Hairspray to lock Karlie’s brows in place.
  3. For the eyes, Sir John used a taupe, matte shadow from Colour Riche La Palette Nude, on the top lid to sculpt the eye. He then lined the upper lash line with Infallible Black Velvet Liner. The underneath of the eye was left clean with no liner or shadow.
  4. For lashes, Sir John first placed multiple individual lashes on the outer corners of Karlie’s eyes. He then took Voluminous Superstar Red Carpet Mascara and applied two coats.
  5. Next, he used Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation all over Karlie’s face, starting the contrasting textures.
  6. To begin to build the glowy finish, he applied True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator in Golden with a fluffy brush. He placed the product under Karlie’s cheekbones, on her temples, under her neck and on her collarbone.
  7. Sir John then set the liquid bronzer with the NEW! Glam Bronze Bronzer Powder (*Limited edition; launching mid-May).
  8. True Match Lumi Liquid Glow Illuminator in Ice was then applied on the high areas of Karlie’s cheeks and a little bit in the tear duct of her eyes to help brighten without using concealer.
  9. For the lips, Sir John used Infallible Pro-Matte Gloss in Rouge Envy. He first applied two coats, then tapped a little translucent powder on top and finished with one last coat.

KARLIE KLOSS (HAIR) - HAIRSTYLIST: Frankie Foye for L’Oréal Paris

INSPIRATION: “The moment I saw the Brandon Maxwell dress Karlie would be wearing I instantly knew her hair needed to be sleek and shiny. I wanted a strong, graphic look with a flawless finish.”

  1. Frankie started by applying L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Boost It Air-Whipped Densifying Foam in sections to Karlie’s damp hair, then blow dried with a big, round brush
  2. Once dry, she used L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Boost It Air-Blown Texture Mist on the roots for an added natural lift.
  3. She then applied a pea-sized amount of L’Oréal Paris Advanced Haircare Extraordinary Oil Lustrous Oil Serum all over the hair for shine.
  4. Then, she teased the roots, made a razor sharp size part and pulled the hair back into a perfect chignon.
  5. Lastly, Frankie finished the look by spraying L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Extra Strong Hold on a big blush brush to hold tiny fly-aways and give the look a super sleek finish.

Oscar Beauty Red Carpet Wrap Up

Many celebrities chose to not play it safe at last night's 87th Academy Awards with the red carpet brimming with voluminous gowns and undercut do's. Contributing to the bold looks of the Oscar-goers was Tracey Cunningham, Redken Celebrity Colorist, who helped Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, and Dakota Johnson, among others, prepare for the awards. Along with Redken, we’ve got the looks from Bridget Brager with TIGI and Lona Vigi with Nexxus!

Anna Farris: Celebrity Hair Stylist Bridget Brager for S Factor by TIGI created a seriously glamorous yet effortless look for Mom star Anna Faris as she graced the Oscars Red Carpet. “We wanted to keep the hair very soft, shiny and undone, a modern look to complement her amazing dress.”

How To:

  2. Next, spray a liberal amount of S Factor by TIGI Body Booster Pumping Spray on damp hair. Roughly blow dry hair, using fingers to tousle
  3. Wrap 1.5" sections of hair around a 1.5" barrel curling, alternating directions in order to keep the curls modern and undone
  4. Emulsify a dime-size amount of S Factor by TIGI True Lasting Colour Oil between hands and run down the hair from mid-shafts to ends
  5. Finish with S Factor by TIGI Vivacious Hair Spray and brush out curls using a boar bristle brush

Products Used: S Factor by TIGI Stunning Volume Shampoo & Conditioner, S Factor by TIGI Body Booster Pumping Spray, S Factor by TIGI True Lasting Colour Oil, S Factor by TIGI Vivacious Hairspray

For last night’s red carpet awards, Leslie Mann paired a 70's-inspired white Armani tux with a voluminous, wavy ponytail, created by Nexxus New York Salon Care Celebrity Stylist Lona Vigi.  “Leslie and I decided to add volume and waves to a chic low pony to mimic the 70's vibe of her outfit.”

Follow Lona's tips below to re-create her red carpet-ready style:
  1. Start by washing hair with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner like Nexxus® New York Salon Care DIAMETRESS Rebalancing Shampoo and Restoring Conditioner that increases the diameter of each strand.
  2. On wet hair, create a center part and apply Nexxus® New York Salon Care EXXTRA GEL Superior Hold Sculpting Gel to define the hair around the face and sides for a sleek look.
  3. Blow dry the hair off the face and spray each section individually with Nexxus® New York Salon Care FRIZZ DEFY Finishing Mist all over to provide humidity-resistance and a natural hold.
  4. Curl the ends with a small barrel curling iron to hold and secure the style during this unusual Los Angeles rain.
  5. Brush out the ponytail and backcomb for fullness.  Finish by spraying with Nexxus® New York Salon Care MAXXIMUM Superior Hold Finishing Mist to provide a defined texture and firm hold that allows the style to stay in place.

Last night, Nexxus New York Salon Care Celebrity Stylist Lona Vigi worked with starlet Selena Gomez for the Vanity Fair Party. “We decided to go with a soft, sexy waved style to complement her black lace gown.”

Follow Lona's tips to re-create Selena's style:
  1. Start by washing and conditioning hair with Nexxus® New York Salon Care Oil Infinite Rebalancing Shampoo and Restoring Conditioner for smooth, luminous hair.
  2. To build texture apply Nexxus® New York Salon Care Mousse Plus Volumizing Mousse throughout damp hair for lasting volume that moves and blow dry in sections using a round brush.
  3. Once dry, wrap small sections around a large barrel curling iron until all of the hair has been set.
  4. Cool completely and then brush out the hair to create softness.
  5. Finish with Nexxus® New York Salon Care Comb Thru Touchable Hold Finishing Mist to provide movement and body to her style.

Nexxus New York Hair Care Products are available at select salons!

Tracey Cunningham shares her secrets for how she achieved her client's looks using Redken color!

1. Emma Stone: Tracey applied Redken Shades EQ Cream to add shine and achieve a brighter version of Emma's red color. Knowing that all eyes would be on the Birdman star, Tracey ensured Emma’s hair had maximum shine by finishing with Shades EQ Gloss, a no-ammonia, no-lift formula that acts as a glaze, color refresher and color corrector.

2. Naomi Watts: To brighten one of Hollywood’s favorite blondes, Tracey used Redken’s NEW Blonde Idol Blue Oil Lightening System oil lightener from the Professional Haircolor Collection (coming to salons this March) to create subtle babylights for added blonde dimension.

3. Dakota Johnson: Adding dimension and richness to the locks of the Fifty Shades of Grey star, Tracey used the no-ammonia Shades EQ Cream to create Dakota’s lowlights. Tracey finished with a glaze, Shades EQ Gloss, to provide an added healthy shine.
To continue to protect the haircolor after their service, Tracey recommends that her clients use Redken Color Extend Magnetics Sulfate-Free Haircare to seal in color and deliver maximum vibrancy and shine.

Redken products are available at ShopSalon!

2015 Academy Awards Red Carpet: Get The Look

In a TME exclusive, we’ve got the how-tos from the 87th Annual Academy Awards held Sunday, February 22, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. From Julianne Moore, Zoe Saldana, Emma Stone, Jennifer Lopez, Naomi Watts, Jennifer Aniston, and Heidi Klum L’Oréal Paris shared these leading ladies leading looks!

Julianne Moore (Makeup)
Makeup Artist: Elaine Offers for L’Oréal Paris
Inspiration: “The inspiration for Julianne’s look was classic, glamorous beauty. Julianne loves lilacs and taupes on her eyes, and a rich lip served as bold contrast against her white Chanel dress.”

STEP-BY-STEP:
  1. Elaine prepped skin with L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Cell Renewal Serum and L’Oréal Paris RevitaLift Miracle Blur for a smooth base
  2. Then she used L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation as a base to create a flawless all-over complexion
  3. Next, she blended L’Oréal Paris Visible Lift Blur Blush in Soft Pink – a versatile, youthful hue – high up onto the apples of the cheeks
  4. Elaine turned to taupe and light lilac hues within the New L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche La Palette Nude (Available April 2015) to intensify Julianne’s eyes to perfection
  5. Next, she applied L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Intenza Mascara for bold, well-defined lashes
  6. Elaine used L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Lip Colour in Raisin Revival, a deep purple-brown shade topped off with the pro-seal balm on the opposite end
  7. L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray sealed the radiant look in for a Red Carpet Ready finish
  8. Elaine sent Julianne off with a L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Powder compact for touch ups sparingly and as needed throughout the night
Julianne Moore (Nails)
Nail Artist: Tom Bachik, L’Oréal Paris Global Nail Artist
Inspiration: “We wanted to create a clean, simple nail look that really played up the beaded adornment accents of Julianne’s gorgeous gown.”

STEP-BY-STEP:
  1. Tom filed a short, natural nail shape to elongate hands for an ultra-feminine look
  2. Next, he added 1 coat of a sheer, ballet slipper pink L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail Polish in Wishful Pinking
  3. Then, for an iridescent shimmer he applied a coat of L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail Polish in Charmed, I’m Sure
  4. Tom massaged L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Glow Renewal Facial Oil all over nails and cuticles to keep them healthy-looking and hydrated

Naomi Watts (Makeup)
Makeup Artist: Pati Dubroff for L’Oréal Paris
Inspiration: Pati was inspired by the shine and graphic panels on the graphic icy sea foam and black Armani Prive dress. The look maintained Naomi’s softness, but at same time had a bit of edge. The focus was kept on the outer corner of the eyes and slightly mattified, letting the dress stand out.

STEP-BY-STEP:
  1. Pati wanted the skin to have a bit of a matte quality, without looking flat so she prepped with L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Miracle Blur Instant Skin Smoother and then used L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation in Golden Beige focusing on the center of the face, and blending well with a damp beauty blender sponge
  2. Pati blended a touch of L’Oréal Paris Visible Lift Color Lift Blush in Rose Gold Lift on the apples of cheeks
  3. The strength of the look is in the brow and eye. For the brows, Pati added definition using L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Designer in Blonde
  4. For the eyes, Pati kept the lids the same tone as Naomi’s skin with a slight shimmer from New L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche La Palette Nude Smokey (shade 1+8) (Available April 2015) and defined the outer corners using L’Oréal Paris Infallible Smokissime Powder Eyeliner Pen in both Taupe Smoke and Black giving a graphic edge to the eyes
  5. The look has a heavy lash focus so Pati piled on L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Butterfly Intenza Mascara in Black focusing on the outer corners
  6. Pati went for L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Color in Violet Parfait on the lip, a shade she likened to a bruised plum

Jennifer Lopez (Makeup)
Makeup Artist: Mary Phillips for L’Oréal Paris
INSPIRATION: A departure from Jennifer’s Golden Globes look, Mary’s inspiration was drawn mostly by Jennifer’s sparkly, ethereal Elie Saab gown. As such, she stuck to a monochromatic palette of warm peaches and diffused bronzes around her eye, paired with a cool toned pink lip that had glacier blue undertones. The moment felt very royal – almost princess-like.

STEP-BY-STEP:
  1. Mary prepped the skin with L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Moisture Blur
  2. Next, she applied L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation in Classic Tan followed by Armani Fluid Sheer #13 as a highlighter
  3. She enhanced brows using L’Oréal Paris Brow Stylist Designer in Blonde
  4. To create the eye look, Mary turned to New L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche La Palette Nude (Available in April) followed by accents of L’Oréal Paris Infallible Smokissime Powder Eyeliner Pen in Taupe Smoke
  5. She then curled lashes and applied multiple coats of L’Oréal Paris Voluminous Miss Manga Black Angel Mascara
  6. To complete the look, she used L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Color in Timeless Rose on the lips

Jennifer Lopez (Hair)
Hair Stylist: Lorenzo Martin for L’Oréal Paris
Inspiration: “Jennifer’s dress was truly the inspiration behind her hair tonight. I wanted to keep Jennifer’s big, beautiful dress the star of the show, and so her hairstyle was simple and chic. The sleek high ponytail was also great for the rainy weather!”

STEP-BY-STEP:
  1. To begin, wash hair with L’Oréal Paris Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Shampoo, Pre-Conditioner, and Conditioner
  2. After washing, massage L’Oréal Paris Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Ultimate Straight Straight Perfecting Balm all over wet hair to fight against humidity
  3. Blow dry hair with a round brush
  4. Set hair in big, hot rollers to create volume. Once set, remove the rollers and brush through the hair spraying on L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Sleek It Strand Smoother Serum Spray
  5. Gather hair into a high ponytail and secure with an elastic with metal hooks on each end to keep the ponytail high
  6. Finish the look off with L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Lock It Weather Control Hairspray to combat the rainy weather
  7. AT-HOME HAIR COLOR RECOMMENDATION: Get Jennifer’s gorgeous highlighted hair at-home with L’Oréal Paris Superior Preference Glam Lights in GL50
Jennifer Lopez (Nails)
Nail Artist: Tom Bachik, L’Oréal Paris Global Nail Artist
Inspiration: “Tonight it was all about the dress. The gown was the star of the show and we wanted to create a monochromatic, tonal nail look that would enhance the overall look.”

STEP-BY-STEP:
  1. Tom added a little length to nails with clear tips to create a 1930s almond shape
  2. For a subtle, sparkly contrast, he applied L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail Polish in I Like It Chunky underneath the nail, adding a pop of rose gold
  3. Last, he added 2 coats of L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail Polish in Mauveless and completed the look with L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Glow Renewal Facial Oil for shine and moisture

Hair Stylist: Mara Roszak, L’Oreal Paris Celebrity Hairstylist
Inspiration: “Zoe wore a beautifully sexy Versace gown so I wanted her hair to have a sexy, Sophia Loren and Italian-inspired feel”

STEP-BY-STEP:
  1. To begin, use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner like L’Oréal Paris Advanced Haircare Power Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner
  2. Mara applied L’Oreal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Boost It High Lift Creation Spray and roughdried it into the hair, making a defined, center part
  3. Once hair was dry, she used a 1’’ ghd Curve Classic Curl Iron, taking random sections of the hair and wrapping it around the iron
  4. After curling, she brushed out the hair with her hands to loosen the waves. She wanted it to have a natural, smoothed-out texture. She then sprayed L’Oreal Paris Elnett Extra Hold Hairspray all over
  5. She then started playing with the shape of the hair, pulling pieces back section-by-section; first gathered the top half of the hair using bobby pins, then moved onto the bottom sections wrapping them up and pinning it up. She let some pieces naturally fall down to soften the look
  6. She finished with L’Oreal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Lock It Weather Control Hairspray
Zoe Saldana (Makeup)
Makeup Artist: Vera Steimberg for L’Oreal Paris
Inspiration: “Mara, Zoe’s hairstylist, and I were both going for a Sophia Loren and Italian-inspired look to match her Versace dress. She has such a gorgeous, new-mom glow so I wanted her skin to stand out and focus more on the eyes balanced out with a soft lip color.”

STEP-BY-STEP:
  1. Vera prepped skin with L’Oreal Paris Youth Code Texture Perfector Day/Night Cream
  2. She then applied L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation in Classic Tan on cheekbones and Crème Cafe for shading
  3. She used the New L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche La Palette Nude (Available April 2015), using the lighter colors from the palette in the middle of the eye and going darker towards the corners of the eye
  4. Vera finished off the eyes with a few coats of L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara in Black
  5. Since the eye was more of a dramatic look, Vera wanted a softer lip and used L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Last Lipcolor in Timeless Rose
  6. She set everything with Infallible® Pro-Spray & Set Makeup Extender Setting Spray to ensure the look stayed fresh throughout the night

Emma Stone (Hair)
Hair Stylist: Mara Roszak, L’Oreal Paris Celebrity Hairstylist
Inspiration: “Emma wore a gorgeous, lacey Elie Saab gown in a beautiful green color. The color against her red hair reminded me of a beautiful, watercolor painting – very whimsical and 1930’s so I wanted the hair to have a similar feel.”

STEP-BY-STEP:
  1. Wash hair with a smoothing shampoo and conditioner like Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Polishing Shampoo and Conditioner
  2. Mara applied L’Oreal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Curve It Elastic Curl Mousse and then roughdried the hair
  3. This style was all about the wave so she then went into the hair and created waves all over using a 1’’ ghd Curve Classic Curl Iron
  4. After curling the hair, Mara pin-curled the hair and let it set for a minute. I then took out the pin-curls and shaped the hair into an “S” wave with a comb and my hands, really focusing on the front of the hair
  5. Once the front was perfect, she then pinned up the rest of the hair into a loose, soft chignon.
  6. Mara sprayed L’Oreal Paris Elnett Extra Hold Hairspray all over the hair to set the style and then gave it a quick spray with L’Oreal Paris Advance Hairstyle Lock It Weather Control Hairspray to help with the rain

Jennifer Aniston  (Nails)
Nail Artist: Tom Bachik, L’Oréal Paris Global Nail Artist
Inspiration: “Jennifer and I were inspired by finding the perfect pink nail polish. We wanted a fresh, clean shade with a soft peach undertone. ”

STEP-BY-STEP:
  1. Tom started by buffing and filing nails to a shorter, square shape
  2. Next, he applied 1 coat of L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail Polish in Walk on the Beach
  3. He let nails dry, and then added 1 coat of L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail Polish in Sweet Nothings for a slightly translucent, fine porcelain look
  4. Tom completed the nail look by applying L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Glow Renewal Facial Oil on both nails and cuticles

Heidi Klum (Nails) **Pre-Oscar’s party on Feb. 21, 2015
Nail Artist: Tom Bachik, L’Oréal Paris Global Nail Artist
Inspiration: “The inspiration behind Heidi’s nails was a soft, 1970s glam look. We layered different shades of pinks to create a perfect custom shade for the evening.”

STEP-BY-STEP:
  1. Tom shaped nails to a classic, oval, elongated shape
  2. Next, he applied 1 coat of L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail Polish in How Romantic
  3. Then, he layered 1 coat of L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail Polish in Wishful Pinking
  4. Tom let nails dry and then moisturized with L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Glow Renewal Facial Oil
