Fragrance Of The Month July 2016

The summer season is now well underway. It is a time of year that Team TME loves as it invites to escape to the beach or satisfies our wanderlust with a fabulous vacation to an unknown land. Summer has is own solid uniqueness of endless possibilities. With the magical inspiration of the season, we chose an exquisite and upscale parfum for Fragrance Of The Month July 2016 -- Clive Christian No. 1 for women and for men!

Each fragrance is spectacular, and combined with the bottling that received the UK FIFI award for special packaging in 2006, No. 1 is the representation of dreams. The bottles for both scents are painted in gold! In 1999 Clive Christian acquired the Crown Perfumery, a celebrated British perfume house established in 1872. The house acquired its name after being granted the use of the royal crown by Queen Victoria as a mark of quality and excellence, the design of which is used as the topper for each scent.

Clive Christian No. 1 for Women (50 ml - $865) opens with a warm masterful blend of fruits that envelope the seductive notes of jasmine and ylang-ylang. Evolving into a touch of sweetness with drydown seamlessly marrying precious notes and leaving one surrounded in cashmere-like comfort. Clive Christian No. 1 for Women Perfume is serene, sophisticated and undeniably feminine. The scent classification is Oriental Floral. Season: All ; Sillage: 3-Moderate; Longevity: 4-Long Lasting; Bottling-5.

Clive Christian No 1 for Women Notes~
  • Top Notes: Pineapple, Plum, Mirabelle, White Peach
  • Mid Notes: Rose, Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, Orris, Carnation
  • Base Notes: Vanilla, Benjoin Balm, Tonka Beans, Cedarwood

Clive Christian No. 1 for Men (50 ml - $865) is similar in essence to No. 1 for Women in that it is an Oriental theme (Oriental Wood to be exact), but this fragrance is very much a gentleman’s scent. Opening with a crisp blend of warm fruits, No. 1 for Men quickly gives way to its mid notes with a predominance of jasmine and ylang ylang with dry down settling softly into a masculine woodsy essence. Season: All Seasons; Sillage: 4-Heavy; Longevity: 4-Long Lasting; Bottling-5.

Clive Christian No 1 for Men Notes~
  • Top Notes: Bergamot, Lime, Sicilian Mandarin, Cardamom, Nutmeg, Thyme
  • Mid Notes: Lily-of-the-Valley, Rose, Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, Heliotrope

Fragrance Of The Month June 2016

Hello again Beautynistas and Suavies! We hope that you’ve been enjoying our picks for The Makeup Examiner’s Fragrance Of The Month feature. So, we’ve been fussing about Humidgeddon and what do you know … we end up with a bit of a chilly snap! Seriously? Since when is it supposed to be 56°F in June in the Northeastern USA? We know … fuss when it’s too cold, fuss when it’s too hot … first world problems. We digress.

Thinking of Summer 2016 and the sensuality that the season offers, we look to Laura Biagiotti for Fragrance Of The Month June 2016 - Blu di Roma Donna for the ladies and Blu di Roma Uomo for the gents! The inspiration for the fragrance paring is the city of Rome. Blu di Roma fragrances are meant to be contemporary, fresh and light inspired by the blue nuances of the roman summer and the charm of an adventure in the city that invites you to dream of a never-ending holiday.

We have to share with you that our editor has an odd ancestry (her tribe hails from all over the world, including Rome) and she tends to get sentimental (you readers know this from other FOM picks) -- too sentimental with an odd attachment to New Zealand that, as far as we know, doesn’t have anything to do with her tribe.  Okay, we digress yet again … but if anyone can answer why Yvonne is so attached to NZ, please email us! Moving on …

Blu di Roma Donna (€ 167.60 - approx. $187 USD - 100ml) was launched in 2014 and has a Floral Fruity theme. The scent opens with a sweet, fruity aroma that gives way to the dominant rose, which seems to remain at drydown with an exquisite mix of patchouli. Blu di Roma Donna is fresh and inviting and reminds us of a truly feminine scent. Seasons: Warmer Months; Sillage: 3-Moderate; Longevity: 4-Long Lasting; Bottling-5

Blu di Roma Donna Laura Biagiotti Notes~
  • Top: Italian Bergamot, Raspberry, Rose Hip
  • Mid:  Jasmine Absolute, Rose, Peach
  • Base: Musk, Benzoin, Patchouli, Vetiver

Blu di Roma Uomo (€ 159.60 - approx. $177 USD - 100ml), also launched in 2014, is a Woody Aquatic. This is a beautiful summer scent -- fresh, sexy and reminds us of the endless summer night of romance. The scent opens with the fresh citrus of Italian Lemon that gives way to a rapture of aquatic freshness and evolves into a woody feel, with drydown leaving a fresh and crisp fragrance that is neither over- or underwhelming. Blu di Roma Uomo is what we want our men to smell like in the summer. Seasons: Warmer Months; Sillage: 3-Moderate; Longevity: 4-Long Lasting; Bottling-5

Blu di Roma Uomo Laura Biagiotti Notes~
  • Top:  Grapefruit, Italian Lemon, Artemisia
  • Mid: Pepperwood, Birch, Cardamom
  • Base: White Leather, Balsam Pine, Moss

Ancillaries are available for Blu di Roma. Laura Biagiotti Blu di Roma Donna and Blu di Roma are available online at Laura Biagiotti.

It hasn’t stopped raining and we’re wondering if the sun will ever come out so that we can enjoy some part of Spring 2016 before the dog days of summer hit. Fortunately, Team TME takes solace in our work and in bringing readers the best info that we can. And with that, Fragrance Of The Month is one of our favorite editorial endeavors. There really isn’t anything like a refreshing, new fragrance to lift your sprits. For Fragrance Of The Month May 2016 we turn to one of our favorite brands … Victoria’s Secret!

Fragrance Of The Month April 2016

Although, the Spring Equinox 2016 arrived at 12:30 a.m. on March 20, you’d never have known it. With days that reach a near 80°F and then drop to 30°F, we’re all a bit out of sorts. Unlike last year at this time, when we were promising that warmer weather was on its way, we can’t state that today! So, as a sanity saver we’re going to our happy place … The Makeup Examiner Beauty Closet to choose a few fragrances that we believe you will absolutely love.

Several months ago, we received products from Luz De La Riva, a brilliant line of “couture intimate cosmetics.” Within the product samplings was a bottle of Lily Wild Orchard Parfum (100ml - $70).  Luz de la Riva’s fragrances and do not contain harsh chemicals, parabens, phthalates, talc, or GMO’s, and packaging are created in the USA in a socially responsible manner. So we thought that in celebration on Earth Day (April 22) we would suggest this sensuous scent. Luz De La Riva’s Lily Wild Orchard Parfum is light and inviting and a perfect choice for you ladies!

For the gent’s, it’s a TME favorite … The Motley Palo Santo Limited-Edition Cologne (100ml - $105) with its smoky woodsy notes and a hint of sweetness, Palo Santo Limited-Edition is playful and intriguing for Spring 2016. This one is a classic men’s fragrance that makes a statement without screaming. Palo Santo is for the man who is confident without being cocky and this sexy scent can be worn all-year round.

Fragrance Of The Month March 2016

Hello Beautynistas and Suavies! Thank you for all of your amazing emails and messages about Fragrance Of The Month February 2016! Team TME is just as thrilled as you are with last month’s picks and we’re ready to tell you about our favorites for Fragrance Of The Month March 2016. We were discussing various fragrances and someone had pointed out that DST begins on March 13 and then someone else looked at the calendar and pointed out that Spring 2016 begins on March 20 here in the US. And then there was the 70F degree weather yesterday, March 1 that put us completely in the zone for Spring. So without further ado, mayhem, and nonsense -- we present Fragrance Of The Month March 2016 with a nod to the warmer weather ahead.

For the ladies it’s Capri by Vince Camuto (100ml - $82). Launched in 2015, Capri opens with an invigorating fruit blend of pear and pink grapefruit. As you wear Capri, it progresses toward a rapturous floral scent with notes of plumeria, peach blossom, and violet flower. Slightly prior to drydown you’ll notice musk and vanilla, however the final fragrance is most assuredly in the floral fruity grouping and leaves the wearer enveloped in a sense of springtime in the Mediterranean. Seasons: Spring into Summer; Sillage: 3-Moderate; Longevity: 4-Long Lasting; Bottling-5 Iconic Vince Camuto for Women.

Capri by Vince Camuto ~Notes
  • Top Notes: Violet Leaves, Juicy Pear, Pink Grapefruit
  • Mid Notes: Peach Blossom, Violet Flower, Plumeria
  • Base Notes: Musk, Vanilla

For the gentleman it’s Solare by Vince Camuto (100ml - $75). Launched in 2015, Solare opens with a burst of citrus that is sweet and fresh. The citrus notes linger for a bit before hints of apple, lavender and its mid notes -- that are a sensuous mix of cardamom, wild sage and pimento leaves -- begin to appear. Solare is akin to a slow burn that culminates into a manly scent at drydown with a dominant fragrant woodsy blend. Solare is a floral woody musk that would leave one to believe that this fragrance is better suited for cooler months, but not so. Vince Camuto Solare is a perfect scent for Spring and Summer with its fresh and fun bouquet. Sillage: 3-Moderate; Longevity: 4-Long Lasting; Bottling-5. Nose: Claude Dir

Solare by Vince Camuto ~Notes

Fragrance Of The Month February 2016

Hello Beautynistas and Suavies! We heard you, we read all of your emails, we received your messages -- so, back by your request is The Makeup Examiner’s Fragrance Of The Month! Just in time for the month of amore, we have two amazing scents that are perfect to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

For the ladies we present Tata Harper Love Potion (5 ml - $40.00). Released in 2015 Love Potion has a Floral Fruity theme. Love Potion is a blend of ten of the world’s most potent aphrodisiac essential oils and while the citrus notes of grapefruit and orange peel are apparent with the opening, so too are the rose, violet leaf and jasmine. Love Potion has an unexpected appeal. To sniff from the bottle is an effort in futility, as you won’t come near the experience of this incredibly sexy and intoxicating perfume. As the fragrance moves Ylang Ylang, sandalwood, and frankincense emerge with a loving embrace to the olfaction senses. Cedarwood atlas becomes more apparent toward drydown. At drydown you are left with a highly sensuous scent and an overall sense of well-being. Tata Harper is a TME Favorite -- with each product produced with the purpose of love and wellness. Love Potion is the perfect scent for the month of February! Seasons: All; Sillage: 3-Moderate; Longevity: 4-Long Lasting; Bottling-5.

For the gentleman we present a scent that is a nod to old school sexy -- Layrite No. 9 Bay Rum Aftershave (4 oz -$10.00). No. 9 Bay Rum is a traditional aftershave, but no stop, it is NOT Old Spice! This is a whole lotta sexy! And it serves a dual purpose; No. 9 Bay Rum Aftershave takes care of a man’s skin after shaving and can be used just as you would cologne. The opening offers a nice touch of clove that really awakens the senses. Made with Original Bay Rum Oils from the Virgin Island this is a spicy men’s fragrance that is not overpowering and we are absolutely loving for Valentine’s Day! Seasons: All; Sillage: 3-Moderate; Longevity: 4-Long Lasting; Bottling-5.

Fragrance Of The Month July 2015

Hello Beautynistas and Suavies! We hope that our U.S. readers enjoyed the Fourth of July celebrations (and have recovered). So, can you believe that it’s July already? The balmy days of Summer 2015 seem to be more like a daze of Summer 2015. Happily, we still have plenty of summertime fun left to enjoy.

Here in the Northeast part of the U.S., we’ve been experiencing some seriously hot and humid weather. And with this in mind, we think about how scent can be amplified in the hot weather. So, Team TME has chosen lighter scents for Fragrance Of The Month July 2015 and … we’ve chosen two scents for the ladies and two scents for the gents!

L’Occitane Verveine (100 ml - $58) was launched in 2003 and has a Citrus Aromatic theme. The scent opens with a summery snap of lemon that gives way to Rose Geranium, which masterfully blends with Mediterranean Verbena. Drydown leaves an exquisite calm citrus fragrance. L’Occitane created Verveine as a unisex, and we agree that the fragrance can easily be shared, but we’re having way too much fun to let our guy borrow it! Seasons: Warmer Months; Sillage: 3-Moderate; Longevity: 4-Long Lasting; Bottling-5

L’Occitane Verveine Notes ~
  • Top: Lemon
  • Mid:  Rose Geranium
  • Base: Mediterranean Verbena

Park Avenue South by Bond No 9 (100ml — $295) was just launched in March 2015 and is all woman with a Fruity Floral theme. Opening with a tap of Green Apple that gives way to a beautiful blend of jasmine and delicious peach. Drydown leaves a sumptuous floral blend anchored by musk and dry amber. Park Avenue South is our favorite Bond No 9 scent to date. Seasons: Warmer Months; Sillage: 3-Moderate; Longevity: 4-Long Lasting; Bottling-5 - Nose: Laurent Le Guernec.

Park Avenue South Notes ~

L'Occitane Pour Homme - L'Occitan Eau de Toilette (100ml - $58) was launched in 2005 and has a Woody Floral theme, which we can’t seem to get enough of. L'Occitan Pour Homme’s opening is an aromatic blend of citrus and pepper that slides towards an irresistible blend of nutmeg and cinnamon. Drydown leaves a seductive blend of lavender, Tonka bean and musk. Team TME unanimously felt this to be a must-have staple scent for men. Seasons: All; Sillage: 3-Moderate; Longevity: 4-Long Lasting; Bottling-5

L’occitan Pour Homme Notes ~
  • Top: Black Pepper, Lavender
  • Mid: Nutmeg, Cinnamon
  • Base: Tonka Bean, Musk

Montauk by Bond No 9 (100 ml - $280) was launched in 2013 and has a Floral Woody Aquatic theme. Although Montauk was designed as a unisex, we find it to be more on the masculine end of the spectrum. Opening with a burst of wild bergamot, Montauk takes you on a ride through a blend of fruity, aquatic and woodsy notes. Montauk reminds of summertime spent at the beach (sort where we wish we were right now!) and is a solid summer fragrance for men. Fragrance Of The Month April 2015

Did you miss us last month? Awww … we missed you too! But, we are back with more amazing picks for Fragrance Of The Month April 2015. Although, Spring 2015 arrived at 6:57 p.m. on March 20, you’d never have known it. And we know that we’ve continuously promised that warmer days are arriving. Guess what? We were correct, as the temperatures have finally begun to creep upward!

We digress. Getting to our Fragrance Of The Month, we turn to Ireland, more precisely Fragrances Of Ireland with two luscious scents. Given that a set of Yvonne’s ancestors hail from County Clare and that Fragrances Of Ireland is a mere 160 miles away in County Wicklow you just know that she’s waxing sentimental and we’re handing over FOM to someone else. Moving on …

For ladies it’s Inis the Energy of the Sea (100ml -$55), which was launched in 1998 and has completely surprised us, as it is such a fresh scent. Inis is the Irish word for island, and the fragrance was inspired by Roundstone Beach on the western coast of Ireland. Inis is a unisex fragrance and while we can see the gents snagging this for themselves, we’re keeping it for us!

Inis the Energy of the Sea Notes~
  • Top: Néroli, Bergamot, Sicilian Lemon, Sea Notes
  • Mid: Lily Of The Valley and Geranium
  • Base: Nutmeg, Sandalwood, Musk, Cloves, Oakmoss

We classify Inis as an Aromatic Aquatic and it is love at first spritz. Wrapped in citrus with a comforting release of sea notes, lily of the valley and geranium, the fragrance is nothing less then delicious. The feeling that Inis evokes is quiet, understated and seductive. While the base notes are present, nothing is overwhelming about Inis. It’s a masterfully blended fragrance that we would wear everyday. Perfumer: The Late Arthur Burnham; Season: Spring/Summer; Sillage: 3; Longevity: 4; Bottling-4

For our gentlemen readers, we present Patrick (100ml - $40). Launched in 1999 and inspired by Ireland’s patron saint. Patrick has an Oriental Woody theme that is lovely and amazingly affordable, as it’s such a quality scent.

Patrick Notes~
  • Top: Fern, Spicy Notes, Sicilian Lemon, Green Notes
  • Mid: Carnation and Rose
  • Base: Patchouli, Oakmoss, Vetiver, Musk

Patrick opens with a fresh green scent and hints at citrus. It evokes the feeling of the countryside after the rain. As with Inis, there is no part of the olfactory journey that overwhelms. Drydown does bring the heavier side of this fragrance with evidence of oakmoss and patchouli. Patrick is a manly scent that is refreshing and can easily be worn year-round. Season: All Seasons; Sillage: 3-Moderate; Longevity-5; Bottling-4.

Ancillaries are available for Inis the Energy of the Sea. Patrick and Inis the Energy of the Sea are available online at Fragrances Of Ireland and select retail locations around the globe. Fragrances Of Ireland is committed to conservation and have been a core funder of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG).

Fragrance Of The Month February 2015

Can you believe that it’s already February? We realize that with the weather over the past few weeks, it certainly doesn’t feel like spring will ever arrive. But, it will! So keep thoughts of warm spring breezes on your mind … as icicles fall from your nose. Thinking along the lines of Spring 2015, we’ve chosen two amazing fragrances from L’Occitane for Fragrance Of The Month.

For the ladies, it’s Arlesienne L`Occitane en Provence for women. The creation of this fragrance was inspired by the Venus of Arles -- and everything that the statute represents about a woman’s feminine beauty. The packaging is feminine and pretty and a reminder of spring with an adornment of flowers etched into the glass flacon.

Arlésienne ~Notes
  • Top: Mandarin and Saffron
  • Mid: Rose and Lily of the valley
  • Base: Violet, Sandalwood, White Woods, Tonka

The opening of the Arlésienne (75ml - $50) is fruity and warm, which gives way to a light floral aroma. Although there is quiet a bit of emphasis on the “rose,” this is not what one would label as a rose fragrance. Arlésienne is romantic, feminine and brilliant for spring! Scent classification: Floral; Season: Spring; Sillage: 3-Moderate; Longevity: 3-Moderate; Bottling-5. L`Occitane offers ancillary products for Arlésienne.

For the gents, Eau de Cade L`Occitane en Provence for men (100ml - $55) that was launched in 2014 and draws inspiration from a longstanding tradition of a father handing down the secrets of Cade wood to his son. The flacon reflects a bit of tradition with its amber colored glass.

Eau de Cade ~Notes

  • Top: Bergamot
  • Mid: Cedarwood and Pink Pepper
  • Base: Cade Wood and Citrus

Eau de Cade opens with an attractive woody snap and moves into a slightly citrus aroma. Drydown brings you to the Cade wood. Although this is a lighter fragrance, it is scrumptiously masculine, a stellar woody fragrance and absolutely timeless. Scent classification: Woody; Season: Spring/Summer; Sillage: 3-Moderate; Longevity: 3-Moderate; Bottling-4.

Arlésienne and Eau de Cade are available online at L`Occitane and L`Occitane boutiques. Want to peruse more scents? Visit The Makeup Examiner’s Fragrance Section!

Fragrance Of The Month November 2014

As we go into the holiday shopping season, it seems only fitting that we suggest parfum and cologne with exquisite gifting options. Therefore this month, we are including the gifting options for TME’s Fragrance Of The Month picks. For Fragrance Of The Month November 2014 -- We present two stunning scents from Atelier Cologne Maison de Parfum - Collection Métal. Scents from the Collection Métal are bottled in genuine precious metals, which is an industry first.

Both scents chosen for this month are releases from 2014. For the ladies we present the recently launched Blanche Immortelle and for the gents, it’s the recently launched Santal Carmin! Of note, Atelier Cologne Maison de Parfum is the perfumery that conceived the creation of Cologne Absolue. Cologne Absolues are packaged in bottles of French glass with hand-made leather stoppers.

Atelier Cologne creates a written vision for each of its scents with Blanche Immortelle (100 ml - $215) reading: “Her limitless generosity defined her, but she preferred to stay hidden. With fire and passion, she secretly devoted every moment of freedom to the cause that could make an everlasting difference. Her actions would irreversibly alter the established order.” The description for Blanche Immortelle paints a vision of passion and rebellion, and perfectly describes this classically sensual scent.

Blanche Immortelle Notes~
  • Top Notes: Bergamot from Calabria, Mandarin from Italy, Mimosa from Grasse
  • Mid Notes: Immortelle Absolue from Corsica, Jasmine Sambac from India, Turkish Rose Absolue
  • Base Notes: Patchouli from Indonesia, Vetiver from Haiti, Sandalwood from Australia

Blanche Immortelle opens with a seductive blending of bergamot, mandarin, and mimosa. While a very traditional opening, immortelle arrives to place a twist upon tradition. Drydown brings in influences of vetiver, patchouli, and sandalwood and one is left with a womanly fragrance the leaves the wearer feeling beautiful. The scent classification is Oriental Floral. Perfumer: Perfumer Jerome Epinette of Robertet; Season: All; Sillage: 3-Moderate; Longevity: 4-Long Lasting; Bottle is covered in genuine precious rose gold - Bottling-5.

Gifting: Blanche Immortelle - Ecrin Absolu ($315) includes Venetian blue gift box with a 200 ml Blanche Immortelle Cologne Absolue, a 30 ml Blanche Immortelle Travel spray with a leather case that has complimentary engraving. Yes loves, this is what she wants for the holidays!

For our gentlemen, we present Santal Carmin (100 ml - $195.00), with a bottle covered in genuine precious real gold and Atelier Cologne reading: “He had a spark from an early age, with a sharp intuition and limitless curiosity. One day they would call him a revolutionary. The moment had come to fight for his dreams and bring his ideas to the world. Possibly a new era would begin.” The description for Santal Carmin is the embodiment of this rugged scent of a man. While we’ve seen this scent described as unisex, we feel that Santal Carmin is better suited for a man.

Santal Carmin Notes~
  • Top Notes: Bergamot from Calabria, Limette from Mexico, Saffron from India
  • Middle Notes: Sandalwood from New Caledonia, Gaiac Wood from India, White Musk
  • Base Notes: Papyrus from India, Cedarwood from Texas, Vanilla from Madagascar

Santal Carmin opens with light notes of bergamot and limette, which quickly entwine with deeper woody notes. Drydown leaves the wearer with a sweet balanced blend of white musk and vanilla that perfectly accentuate the deeper woody notes. Santal Carmin is an ideal blending of sweetness and strength that is reflective of today’s modern gentleman. The scent classification is Oriental Woody. Perfumer: Perfumer Jerome Epinette of Robertet; Season: All; Sillage: 3-Moderate; Longevity: 4-Long Lasting; Bottling-5.

Gifting: Santal Carmin - Ecrin Absolu ($295) includes Venetian blue gift box with a 200 ml Santal Carmin Cologne Absolue, a 30 ml Santal Carmin Travel spray with a leather case that has complimentary engraving. It is our opinion that he will love this for this holiday and you will love him wearing it.

Fragrance Of The Month October 2014

Hello again Beautynistas and Suavies! We hope that you enjoyed last month’s launch of The Makeup Examiner’s Fragrance Of The Month feature, as well as our choices. Embarking upon a new season seems to bring with it a beg for change. That, of course, is not to say that Summer 2014 wasn’t amazing -- it was indeed -- but now it’s time to embrace the cooler weather and all the brand new offerings from beauty houses around the globe!

For Fragrance Of The Month October 2014, we present two gorgeous fragrances from a perfumery we’ve previously reviewed … Bond No. 9! For the ladies we present the newly launched Queens and for the gents, it’s The Scent of Peace for Him. So, without further ado let’s get the scents.

Launched on September 18, Queens by Bond No. 9 (100 ml - $270) is inspired by the borough’s complete diversity. The borough of Queens takes the crown as the world’s most ethnically diverse urban area … and that is most definitely reflected in the scent’s exquisitely blended notes. Bond No. 9 creative director, Laurice Rahmé stated, “It’s a message for peace” that is further presented by the iconic 1964 World’s Fair Unisphere, which is rendered in gold on the front fragrance’s royal purple flacon. The back of the Queens flacon is a simple long-tailed “Q,” placing the bottling at a 5.

For our gentlemen, we present The Scent of Peace for Him (100ml - $250). Launched in October 2013, The Scent of Peace for Him was inspired by Rahmé’s passion to further a message of tolerance, comfort and, of course, peace.
