Dolce & Gabbana and Valentino Get The Look

To add to the drama of Dolce& Gabbana’s Couture show, Redken Global Creative Director Guido created a variety of sleek chignons and knots to anchor the designer’s stunning headpieces.

“The hair for Dolce & Gabbana was dependent on the headpiece made for each girl. I prepped the hair with Redken’s guts 10, and then created a center part before styling various types of chignons, loose Sicilian knots, braided knots and loose buns,” - Guido

Get The Look:

Step One: Spray Redken pillow proof blow dry express primer all over damp hair and comb through

Step Two: Apply a quarter-size amount of Redken guts 10 volumizing spray-foam mousse to damp hair, working into the hair from roots to ends

Step Three: Blow dry hair smooth using a flat brush

Step Four: Apply a nickel-size amount of Redken braid aid 08 braid defining lotion from mid-lengths to ends of hair

Step Five: Twist the length of the hair into a knot or chignon and secure with small hairpins

Step Six: Finish with a thorough mist of Redken control addict 28 high control hairspray for extra hold

Step Seven: Place desired headpiece, hat or accessory on head and secure with small hairpins if necessary

“The inspiration for Valentino was Romanesque, so for the hair, we used the jewelry that was made for the collection as a crown. First, I prepped the hair with Redken’s satinwear 02 and then created a natural center part and blow-dried the hair using a round brush. Next, I put a very natural movement through the hair using a large barrel curling iron. The crown was then placed on the head and secured by twisting side sections of the hair around the sides and back of the jewelry. Last, the back length of the hair was braided into a low loose braid using Redken’s braid aid 08 for extra grip,” -Guido

Get The Look:

Step One: Apply a nickel-size amount of Redken satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to damp hair

Step Two: Use fingers to create a natural part and then blow-dry using a round brush

Step Three: Bend random sections of hair around a 1-1/2 inch curling iron to add natural movement

Step Four: Place desired jewelry on head and secure by twisting sections of hair around it and adding hairpins if needed

Step Five: Apply a nickel-size amount of Redken braid aid 08 braid defining lotion from mid-lengths to ends of hair and then create a low, loose braid

Step Six: Finish with a mist of Redken wind blown 05 dry finishing spray all over for an airy, windswept effect

Redken Milan Fashion Week Recap With Bottega Veneta and Versace

Show: Bottega Veneta Fall/Winter 2015

Playing up the personalities of the different pieces of Bottega Veneta’s Fall/Winter 2015 collection, Redken Global Creative Director Guido embraced individuality by giving each model her own unique hairstyle for the runway this season. Guido used Redken’s Guts 10 volumizing spray-foam mousse and Wind Blown 05 dry finishing spray to enhance the hair’s natural texture before achieving a unique style that was created specially for each girl.

Redken Products Used: guts 10 volumizing spray-foam mousse, wind blown 05 dry finishing spray

Create The Look:
  1. Apply a quarter-size amount of Redken Guts 10 volumizing spray-foam mousse to damp hair, working into the hair from roots to ends
  2. Use fingers to create a messy middle part
  3. Blow dry hair at the roots to add some volume, but let the length of the hair dry naturally
  4. Thoroughly mist Redken Wind Blown 05 dry finishing spray all over dry hair to add some texture
  5. If desired, pull hair back into a low ponytail or twist into a loose chignon, securing with a U-shaped pin

Show: Versace Fall/Winter 2015

“This season, Donatella wanted each girl to be herself, but very glamorous, modern and sexy, which is always the look here at Versace. The hair is kind of natural in a sense, but in a way it feels very rock-and-roll. The key is keeping the personality – some girls have bangs and there are different lengths and textures to bring as much personality to the runway as possible. I used a curling iron to put a little rough texture in, so some girls are a bit wavier or more texturized than others. Then I drenched the hair with Redken’s Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist so it’s saturated in shine and very rich-looking to get that nighttime, urban feeling. The final look is very glamorous, but in a nonchalant way.” -Guido, Redken Global Creative Director

Prada Fall 2015 Ready To Wear Redken Recap

Show: PRADA Fall 2015 Ready To Wear - Milan

Putting a twist on the classic Prada look, Redken Global Creative Director Guido created a young, sophisticated updo adorned with beautiful jeweled barrettes for the Fall/Winter 2015 runway show in Milan. Recreating the look from Prada’s Men’s show, Guido used Redken’s Stay High 18 high-hold gel to mousse and Fashion Work 12 versatile working spray to pull the hair into a high, tight updo. Then, Guido hand-placed Prada’s bejeweled barrettes on each model for the perfect finishing touch.

“The look at Prada this season is really a redux of the hair that I created at the Men’s show, but this version is a little bit cleaner and very young, but in a sophisticated way. There’s always an offness to the classic beauty of Prada, and that’s the feeling that we achieved with this style. It has a slightly 50’s or 60’s kind of feeling, which is always Prada-like, but it’s still very modern and sort of futuristic. I used Redken’s Stay High 18, which is a very strong gel to mousse formula, to blow dry the hair up against the roots to pull it into this very high ponytail in the middle of the head. Then, I covered the elastic securing the ponytail with a piece of hair, and flipped the hair over into this little updo, holding it in place with the jeweled barrettes. I finished the style with Redken’s Fashion Work 12 hairspray to clean the hair up and hold the style in place. The loose ends of the ponytail give you that feeling of youngness and easiness, which adds to the modernity of the look.” - Guido

Redken Products Used: stay high 18 high-hold gel to mousse, fashion work 12 versatile working spray

Create The Look:
  1. Apply a quarter-size amount of Redken Stay High 18 high-hold gel to mousse to damp hair and blow dry flat against the head and away from the face
  2. Gather hair into a very high, tight ponytail in the middle of the head and secure with an elastic
  3. Hide the elastic by wrapping a small section of hair from the ponytail around the band, securing with a small U-shaped pin
  4. Section by section, backcomb the ponytail near the elastic to create volume
  5. Flip the length of the ponytail to one side and secure with closed fasteners (i.e., bobby pins) and a decorative barrette
  6. Finish with a thorough spray of Redken Fashion Work 12 versatile working spray to hold the style and clean up any flyaways

Oscar de la Renta and Marc by Marc Jacobs Redken Recap

Show: Oscar de la Renta Autumn/Winter 2015

Lead Stylist: Guido, Redken Global Creative Director

Redken Global Creative Director Guido created a look that combined elegance with ease for the runway at Oscar de la Renta’s Fall/Winter 2015 show. To put a modern touch on the classic French twist, Guido raked the hair back with his fingers, leaving comb marks, and then added shine with Redken’s Forceful 23 super strength hairspray and Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist.

“The look at Oscar de la Renta this season is very elegant and classic – very uptown chic. Though the finished look is very done, there’s a sense of ease to it. There are the lines that I created by raking my fingers through the hair to pull it back into the French twist, and the shine that I added with Redken’s Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist. I prepped the hair first with Redken’s Stay High 18 because you need some grip and hold to achieve the style. The key here is to secure the French twist at the back of the neck, making sure it’s flat and tight against the head, which creates a super beautiful profile.” -Guido

Create the Look:

Step 1: Apply a quarter-size amount of Redken Stay High 18 high-hold gel to mousse to damp hair and blow dry.

Step 2: Gather hair and rake with fingers to create comb marks, and then pull up into a

Step 3: French twist. Be sure the base of the twist is tight and flat against the head.

Step 4: Secure the French twist by pinning with open fasteners.

Step 5: Finish with a thorough spray of Redken Forceful 23 super strength hairspray for hold and lightly mist Redken Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist all over for added shine.

 Show: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Referencing the revolutionary, rebellious style of the Guardian Angels from the 1980’s, Redken Global Creative Director Guido achieved a style with perfectly defined texture to balance the berets seen on the runway at the Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter 2015 show. Guido created light, messy texture by saturating the hair with Redken’s Full Frame 07 all-over volumizing mousse and then allowing the hair to air dry, to enhance each girl’s individual style.

“It’s all about the revolutionary, rebellious girl at Marc by Marc Jacobs today. The Guardian Angels are kind of a reference point for the look, which has a very 80’s feeling. Each girl is wearing a beret with different symbols and badges, which really makes the style. The hair is very textured, which I created by saturating the hair with Redken’s Full Frame 07 mousse, scrunching it a bit with my fingers and then just letting it air dry to get that light, messy texture with just enough definition.” – Guido

Create the Look:

Step 1: Start with dry hair

Step 2: Dampen hair by misting water all over using a spray bottle

Step 3: Create a messy center part using fingers

Step 4: Apply Redken Full Frame 07 all-over volumizing mousse section by section to fully saturate hair

Step 5: Scrunch hair with fingers and allow to air dry

Step 6: Finish with a mist of Redken Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist and put on beret or hat

Redken NYFW Alexander Wang A/W15 Recap

Photos by Lucas Flores Piran

Show: Alexander Wang Autumn/Winter 2015

Lead Stylist: Guido, Redken Global Creative Director

Taking inspiration from rock-and-roll legend Marilyn Manson, Redken Global Creative Director Guido achieved a dark, downtown look for the runway at Alexander Wang this season. Using Redken’s Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist and Forceful 23 super strength hairspray in unconventional ways, Guido created a wet-looking, gothic style to go with the darkness of the designer’s new collection.

“The Alexander Wang girl always has a very cool, urban, downtown look. This season, it’s meant to feel very heavy, rock-and-roll and sort of dark – it’s very Marilyn Manson-feeling. I used Redken Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist and Forceful 23 hairspray to achieve a very greasy, kind of stringy and shiny look. I drenched the hair, section by section, with the Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist so it feels very lank. Then, I just parted it so the ears stick out and teased the crown a bit to add some shape, locking it in with Forceful 23. A lot of the girls have their own hair, and each is slightly different. The more individual the girls look for this show, the better.” ~Guido, Redken Global Creative Director

Redken Products Used: diamond oil high shine airy mist, forceful 23 super strength hairspray

Create the Look:

Step 1: Section by section, coat dry hair with Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist from roots to tips until hair is very shiny and wet-looking

Step 2: Take small sections of hair and twist the ends, spraying with Forceful 23 super strength hairspray to create chunky texture

Step 3: Part hair with fingers, pulling pieces down in front of the face and around the ears so they stick out

Step 4: Tease hair at the crown to create some form and height, and spray thoroughly with Forceful 23 super strength hairspray to hold the shape

Coach NYFW AW 2015 Get The Look

Redken Global Styling Director Guido created a cool, clean look at the Coach presentation this season, playing up the individual personalities of the models and the coolness of the new collection. He washed the hair with Redken’s new Frizz Dismiss Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Conditioner and let it dry naturally to create clean, frizz-free texture, and then applied move ability 05 lightweight defining cream-paste near the part for a smooth finish with natural shine.

“At Coach this season I left the hair as natural as possible and really played up the individual personalities of the girls. A lot of the shows this season want to keep the girls’ personalities – they don’t want armies. So, I started with clean hair, washing the girls’ hair the night before with Redken’s Frizz Dismiss Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Conditioner to get rid of any frizziness or wildness, and then let the hair dry naturally to get that great texture. I created a part that’s just off-center so it feels very not-thought-about, and then applied a bit of move ability 05 with my fingers to take any frizz away. There’s this sort of coolness about natural hair, and we’ll probably see a lot of it this season because it feels very modern.” ~Guido, Redken Global Styling Director

Create the Look:
  • Start with clean hair by washing with Frizz Dismiss Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Conditioner
  • Allow hair to dry naturally and then create a slightly off-center part
  • Using fingers, apply move ability 05 lightweight defining cream-paste to the hair near the part to add smoothness and natural shine.

Redken Products Used: frizz dismiss sulfate-free shampoo, frizz dismiss conditioner, move ability 05  light weight defining cream-paste

“The Versace girl is a bit sporty this season, but still very modern and glamorous. I created this minimal and very natural hairstyle to enhance this feeling. I created volume in the front with guts 10, and left the back natural to get that beautiful, modern texture. Then I raked my fingers back through the hair, using forceful 23 to create those distinct lines and hold for a boyish, sporty vibe that’s still quite glamorous with the height in the front and shiny finish.” - Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Show: Alberta Ferretti Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear

Redken Creative Consultant Guido played up Alberta Ferretti’s Spring Ready-to-Wear #MFW 2015 Collection with a natural, hippy-inspired hairstyle for the runway. “At this moment in time, easy hair feels the most modern, and that’s the overall feeling we get with this hairstyle. The Alberta Ferretti girl is kind of a hippie, but still very feminine and soft, so I left the hair a bit natural, with some nice chunky texture and loose curls. I sprayed fashion waves 07 throughout the hair, and then used two different sized curling irons to add more movement. Then, I applied more fashion waves 07 to pull out the curls a bit, creating that nice matte texture.” - Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

  • Diamond Oil Shampoo
  • Diamond Oil Conditioner
  • fashion waves 07 sea salt spray

Create The Look:
  1. Start with clean hair by washing with Diamond Oil Shampoo and Conditioner.

  3. Use a round brush to blow-dry the front of the hair until smooth.
  4. Spray fashion waves 07 sea salt spray throughout the hair to create some texture.
  5. Create additional movement by loosely wrapping underside pieces of hair around a ½-inch curling iron and face-framing pieces around a 1-inch curling iron.

Christopher Kane Spring/Summer 2015 Hair by Guido for Redken

Show: Christopher Kane Spring/Summer 2015

Redken Creative Consultant, Guido created a natural, beautiful hairstyle to complement the glamour and sophistication of Christopher Kane’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection. Using satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion and Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist, Guido achieved a statement-making, simple style that sparkled on the runway.

“This modern, easy look simply felt right for Christopher Kane’s new collection, which is all about an unperfected, yet sophisticated type of girl. It’s very natural and undone, which created a modern and cool feeling. But, even the easy looks have little nuances that make it feel special - the way the part is very natural and a little messy, or the little wispy hairs around the face. I used satinwear 02 to blow-dry the hair smooth so it’s not frizzy, but still has some beautiful, natural movement. Then I sprayed Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist at the roots to add a little bit of gloss.” - Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used: satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion, Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist (launching in November)

Create The Look:

  1. Apply satinwear 02 to damp hair and blow-dry until smooth, but still keeping the hair’s natural texture.
  2. Use fingers to create a rough middle part.
  3. Bring baby hairs and flyaways forward onto the face and spray the top of the hair with Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist for a glossy finish.

Redken #NYFW Roundup Hair by Guido: Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren

Guido, Redken Creative Consultant, styles hair for more than 80 fashion shows every year in New York, London, Milan, and Paris. He fuels trend-setting hairstyles around the globe every season and is the creative force behind fashion's most iconic hairstyles. For TME Readers, we’ve got the “Get The Look” for NYFW most iconic designers!

Show: Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2015

For the fourth season in a row, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created 60 custom wigs for the highly-anticipated Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2015 NYFW show. Working very closely with Marc Jacobs to complete his vision for the runway, Guido drew inspiration from the 70’s and 80’s to create a fantasy on the runway.

“The wigs we created are a total reflection of Marc Jacob’s style. He has a complete vision for his show, and the wigs really allowed us to bring this vision to life because they almost depersonalize the girls. We were inspired by the 70’s and 80’s and by Joey Ramone’s bowlish haircut. First, we dyed all of the wigs black and then we pre-cut them before the show so that we could custom cut them for each girl backstage to create that perfect bowl-shape with the heavy bang. Texture is also very important for this look.” - Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used: wind blown 05 dry finishing spray, fashion waves 07 sea salt spray, hardwear 16 super strong sculpting gel, and control addict 28 high hold hairspray

Create the Look - Marc Jacobs:
  1. Apply hardwear 16 super strong sculpting gel to dry hair from root to ends and comb through until hair is completely saturated.
  2. Divide hair into two sections (top and bottom) in the back.
  3. Clip the bottom section down and out of the way.
  4. Using a finishing brush, start to brush the top section flat against the head, following the round of the head in one direction. Repeat with each section, making sure it’s very clean and neat-looking when finished.
  5. Blow dry hair until completely dry.
  6. Apply control addict 28 high hold hairspray to smooth any flyaways.
  7. Place wig on head.
  8. Cut the wig into a bowl-shape with a heavy bang.
  9. Mist water all over the wig until damp, and then liberally spray fashion waves 07 sea salt spray all over, scrunching into hair with fingers to create chunky texture.
  10. Allow to air dry and finish by thoroughly spraying wind blown 05 dry finishing spray all over the hair for added texture.

Show: Calvin Klein Spring/Summer 2015

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a chic, Japanese-inspired chignon for Calvin Klein’s Spring/Summer 2015 NYFW show, adding a bit of toughness to the designer’s classic collection.

“The look at Calvin Klein is always very minimal and classic. This season the girl is still quite classic, but with a tough, sexy edge, which was inspired by the Japanese or chinoiserie kind of look. I simply pulled the hair back very tight with my fingers to create a high ponytail, and then twisted the hair into a chignon that’s a bit messy with little wispy hairs popping out of the bun.” - Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used: forceful 23 super strength hairspray, Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist (available in November)

Create the Look - Calvin Klein:
  1. Liberally spray forceful 23 super strength hairspray and Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist throughout the hair, using fingers to work into the roots for texture and grip.
  2. Pull hair back into a tight, high ponytail with fingers, securing with an elastic.
  3. Twist the length of the ponytail into a tight chignon, fastening with small U-pins and allowing a few wispy strands of hair to stick out from the bun.
  4. Finish with another mist of forceful 23 super strength hairspray and Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist all over for added texture and shine.

Show: Ralph Lauren Spring/Summer 2015

Redken Creative Consultant Guido brought modern luxury to the Ralph Lauren runway once again, creating two classic, minimal looks to complement the designer’s collection. Guido created an elegant low ponytail and a beautiful, smooth blowout to bring to life the timeless, traditional lifestyle of Ralph Lauren.

“Ralph Lauren continues to tell the story of easy luxury on the runway. The hair is all about this beautiful, rich texture. Some of the girls have their hair back in an elegant, low ponytail, and some have their hair down, which is a nod to Ralph’s commitment to stay true to his brand rather than following the latest trends. These styles with rich, natural textures achieve a very classic, finished and modern feeling.” - Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Creative Consultant Guido swept the hair up in a classic Dolce & Gabbana manner, which is synonymous with soft, romantic and truly elegant style. Redken for Versace Fall/Winter 2014

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a 60’s inspired hairstyle that felt in line with Versace’s own personal style. Unlike the natural styles that have dominated the runway this season, the hair at Versace was anything but easy, or natural.

Once the hair was blown out straight, Guido team swept flat irons back and forth until the hair was stick straight. In order to protect the integrity of the hair, Guido used pillow proof blow-dry express primer and iron shape 11 finishing thermal spray.

Summer Hair by Redken Creative Consultant Guido

Nina Ricci Spring - Summer 2014
Hair by Guido, Redken Creative Consultant
Redken Nina Ricci SS14

Redken Creative Consultant Guido used outshine 01 anti-frizz polishing milk, a drop of diamond oil shatterproof shine and a round brush to create the super smooth finish at Nina Ricci. The simple, low ponytail was loosened in the front just enough to add softness to the design, while still maintaining enough tension to hold the style together. The hair manages to be polished and undone all at once.

“While the hair is simple for Nina Ricci, the look itself is very luxurious. I used outshine 01 anti-frizz polishing milk, prior to blow drying the hair, in order to achieve a nice sleek, smooth texture. Celine Spring - Summer 2014
Hair by Guido, Redken Creative Consultant
Redken Celine SS14

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a look that was both messy and modern, while still maintaining a beautiful quality to the hair. He used a bit of satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to soften and smooth the natural texture of the hair. Once the hair was twisted and pinned, Guido finished with quick dry 18 instant finishing spray. This particular hairspray provided for a clean style, without creating a firm or hard feeling to the hair.

"I took a modernist approach to the classic bun at Celine, by creating a simple and slightly messy knot. I wanted to make sure the look remained soft, so the hair was not pulled too tight and a few flyaways were left untouched. The end result should feel soft and pretty." Guido, Redken Creative Consultant
