Katy Perry 2014 Grammy Looks From The Pop Princess’ Style Team

Everyone walking the Red Carpet at Sunday’s Grammy Awards definitely made a statement. But among the masses, Katy Perry really stood out and had the most transformative look that began with whimsical on the Red Carpet and morphed into sultry for the performance of her hit “Dark Horse”.

Katy, as always, was stunning and luckily The Makeup Examiner has Katy’s full beauty breakdown … straight from her expert beauty team! Peruse through the slideshow for your favorite look and the complete how-to!

Celebrity Stylist Renato Campora shares, “Katy wanted to wear her hair up and I was inspired by the soft, romantic look of her dress”. First I sprayed her hair with the Herbal Essences Naked Sheer Shine Mist and then blew it out to a sleek, polished finish. Once her hair was dry, I pulled it into a tight, high ponytail. To add more volume and texture to the ponytail, I sprayed the Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo throughout the length of her hair. Then I twisted the ponytail and wrapped it around the base of her hair to create the crown. I secured the crown with bobby pins and misted the hair with the Herbal Essences Naked Flexible Hold Spritzer to polish her look and set her style in place.

Katy Perry 2014 Grammy’s Red Carpet Beauty by Jake Bailey - “Katy had a very clear idea of what she wanted for the Grammy’s this year. She wanted sexy eyes; elegant lashes and she wanted to GLOW! I was quick to agree as I had seen the ethereal gown she was going to wear – stunning!,” shared Jake.

I started by prepping her skin with Olay’s new Regenerist Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream. This is perfect to use under makeup as it delivers lots of moisture but still feels lightweight and foundation glides smoothly over it. Once the moisturizer had absorbed, I got to work on the skin. Since we were going for maximum "glow" I mixed equal parts CoverGirl BB cream and CoverGirl TruBLEND Liquid Foundation on the back of my palm before buffing it all over her face and neck with a soft brush for sheer coverage and a polished glow.

I started the eye look by painting a delicate line onto her lashline and a subtle “cat eye” wing in the outer corners of her eyes using CoverGirl Bombshell Liquid Liner. I then coated her lashes with Bombshell Volume Mascara, top and bottom. I used the first coat to get that volumized look and then applied the second coat for the intense jet-black wet lash look. I then applied Bombshell Shine Shadow in Gold Goddess into the crease of her eyelid and highlighted her lids and brow bones with Flamed Out Shadow in Blazing White. I finished the eye look with a strong brow and a coat of clear mascara to hold them in place.

Once I finished with the eyes, I warmed and highlighted her complexion using CoverGirl TruMAGIC Sunkisser and Luminizer. I blended the Sunkisser along the hairline and into the hollows of the cheeks to add warmth and dimension. I then took the Luminizer and used it to add a golden glow to her cheekbones, tip of her nose and just above the cupid’s bow of her lips. Once I set the makeup with CoverGirl + Olay Pressed Powder, I dusted a little bit of shimmery coral blush on the apples of her cheeks.

I finished the look with a fresh coral/pink shade called "Heavenly" from the CoverGirl LipPerfection collection and tipped it with a touch of balm for extra shine.

Katy Perry 2014 Grammy Performance Look by Jake Bailey - “Once Katy walked the red carpet it was time to take her into the performance look. The performance was going to be dark and dramatic so we needed to make a change but had very little time. I made a quick change by adding a strip of spidery false lashes and adding another coat of Bombshell Mascara for extra intensity. I took my CoverGirl Bombshell Liquid Liner and extended her eyeliner outward to look a little more ‘wicked’,” shared Jake.

The fastest way to dramatically change your look is always the lips. We went from a fresh coral pink to a deep cranberry and she was instantly transformed from ethereal red carpet bombshell into a sultry witch. The shade we chose was “Euphoria” also from CoverGirl LipPerfection. She liked the color so much that she kept it on for the rest of the show as it went perfectly with her post performance outfit.

We chose a light pink shade called “Everbloom” from the CoverGirl Outlast Nail Gloss collection. It offered just a subtle hint of color to keep the focus on her gown and flawless face,” shares Celebrity Manicurist Kimmie Kyees.

Create a signature scent with the new Herbal Essences body wash collection

Happy Friday lovelies! As readers know The Makeup Examiner has a slight lip-gloss addiction, but TME has an even greater addiction to perfumes. You’d likely catch me sans makeup at the market, but never sans perfume. Scent transforms us and leaves a mark on our memories. For instance, you can probably remember the scent that you were wearing the first time that you laid eyes upon your boyfriend/husband or the scent that you wore when you met your summer crush.

The Makeup Examiner loves scent so much that she’s endeavored to make her own from her garden flowers, for which she will share her adventure at a later date, and any opportunity that I have to play and mix scents is one that I jump on … especially when the opportunity to experiment isn’t going to cost me a lot of money. Herbal Essences launched a line of body washes in June and they compliment Herbal Essences line of shampoos and conditioners, which alone makes for a great way to have a signature scent by “layering” your favorite scent from hair-to-toe.

How can you create your signature scent using the Herbal Essences line? For example, you can pair Hello Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner ($4.50 each) that is a scented combination of orchids and coconut with Hello Hydration Body Wash ($4.99) scented with warm vanilla and coconut.

Two other combinations that The Makeup Examiner loves mixing are Body Envy Shampoo and Conditioner, which is a scented combination of passion flower and scented pearl (a relative of the magnolia), with Body Burst Body Wash that has the same scent combination as Body Envy. The other lovely combination is Color Me Happy Shampoo and Conditioner, scented with Moroccan rose and passion fruit nectar, paired with Happy Go Lather Body Wash that is of the same scent combination.

If you want to get a little creative and try your hand at combining other scents in the Herbal Essences line, here is the scent breakdown:

  • Drama Clean shampoo and conditioner - Citrus Blossom and Green Tea
  • Long Term Relationship - Cherry Wood, Berry, Violet, and Plum
  • None of Your Frizzness - Mandarin and Scented Pearl

Creating a signature scent can be as easy as paring your favorite body wash with your favorite shampoo and conditioner. You can have your own fruity, floral or woodsy scent by simply combining these everyday beauty products and at these prices you can afford to experiment! Herbal Essences products are available at CVS nationwide.
