Fall Favorites That You Have To Try

Wow, did fall arrive today or what? It's a new season and so many new beauty products to try and to love! We've sorted through quite a few to find our favorites and hopefully yours!

evolis Professional Style & Treat Dry Shampoo ($30) Created with 100% botanical actives to both style your hair and treat your scalp. This shampoo instantly absorbs excess oil while delivering their patented blend of FGF5 inhibitors. By blocking FGF5, the negative effects can be reversed, resulting in the restoration of hair density, promotion of new growth and the preservation of existing hair strands.  Ideal for all hair types, Style +Treat Dry Shampoo revives your hair style while lifting your roots for incredible volume and fullness.

Tatcha Violet-C Brightening Serum ($88) Vitamin C isn't new, but it definitely is having a strong resurgence in popularity. The Tatcha Violet-C Brightening Serum is an oil and fragrance-free serum that packs a whopping 20 percent concentration of vitamin C that deliver both instant and long-term results. A 10 percent concentration of AHAs joins the mix -- all working together to leave your skin firmer, smoother, and noticeably more glowy.

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream ($30) This best-selling cream is getting a revamp, now reformulated to be entirely paraben-free. But don't worry, you won't be able to tell that your beloved moisturizer has changed -- it took Kiehl's scientists five years and more than 114 different versions to come up with this final formula that works!

Laura Mercier Flawless Lumière Radiance-Perfecting Foundation ($48 - available in 30 shades) A pearl extract in this medium-to-full coverage base helps reflect light to give your skin an instant glow, regardless of whether you're standing in front of a ring light or sitting under yellow-y office bulbs. The lightweight, moisturizing formula promises to stay put for up to 15 hours, keeping your skin looking flawless and feeling hydrated.

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Barriair Cream ($30) As a general rule, creams promising to restore and calm your skin are usually, well, super thick and heavy. Not this newbie, which is packed with hard-working, skin-coddling ingredients, but it has an airy, whipped texture that feels more like a gel moisturizer than a heavy-hitting hydrator. There's hyaluronic acid to moisturize the skin, colloidal oatmeal to soothe it, and ceramides and linoleic acid to help strengthen the skin barrier.

Kopari Coconut Detox Mask ($38) We think of this mask as a juice cleanse for our skin! Bentonite and kaolin clays go to town pulling impurities out of your pores, while coconut oil hydrates, and probiotics help keep the top layer of skin feeling balanced and looking fresh.

Giorgio Armani Beauty Power Fabric Foundation Balm ($64) A blend of waxes and oils gives this foundation formula its initial balm-like consistency, which, when smoothed over skin, transforms into a cream, and later, a powder. Made with 15 percent pigments, it packs a hefty punch of complete coverage and has a perfectly matte finish despite its creamy consistency.

Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Self-Setting Concealer ($28 available in 22 shades) The latest addition to the brand's best-selling Ultra HD line, this cover-up doesn't need to be set with powder, thanks to the unique amino-acid coated pigments that immediately conform to your skin, staying put for up to 12 hours without caking or creasing.

Maybelline New York Snapscara ($6) Maybelline knows a thing or two about mascara, and their newest Snapscara formula is one of their best yet. The thin, flexible pigment tints your lashes and leaves them looking super glossy, but also adds a little thickness and lots of length.

Dior Lip Glow To The Max ($34) Dior Lip Glow To The Max is the same beloved Lip Glow, now with a yummy new look and a touch more pigment. In this new formula, the sheer, tinted balm is spiked with pigment — those are the candy-colored swirls you see in the bullet — to both hydrate your lips and leave them with a bit more of a tint than the original formula does. Take your pick from seven different shades, five with a dewy finish and two that leave behind a holographic sheen.

Tenoverten Rose Polish Remover ($14) What you won't find in this polish remover: acetone, parabens, or any unpleasant odors. What you will find: vitamin E, horsetail leaf extract, and aloe to help hydrate and strengthen your nails. Green beauty lovers should add this to their product stash, stat.

Hourglass Cosmetics Introduces Ambient Lighting Blush Palette

In early 2013, Hourglass Cosmetics launched a range of Ambient Lighting Powders designed to mimic universally flattering light sources by utilizing photoluminescent technology. Later that year, the brand launched Ambient Lighting Blush based upon a similar technology of light diffusion and offering buildable coverage. For any Hourglass Cosmetics fan -- and who wouldn’t be -- the news of the brand’s Ambient Lighting Blush Palette is nothing short of a whole lot of wonderful!

The Limited Edition Palette features three shades of Ambient Lighting Blush, which is the groundbreaking blush that creates seamless, soft-focused and multidimensional color. The Palette (USD $58 | CAD $67) features two of Hourglass’ best selling shades -- Luminous Flush and Mood Exposure, as well as a brand new shade, Incandescent Electra (Exclusive to the Ambient Lighting Blush Palette).

Ambient Lighting Blush Palette Shades:
  1. Luminous Flush: A champagne rose blush fused with Luminous Light to evoke a candlelit glimmer.
  2. Incandescent Electra (exclusive to the palette): A cool peach blush blended with Incandescent Light for a celestial glow.
  3. Mood Exposure: A soft plum blush fused with Mood Light to brighten the complexion
What Ambient Lighting Blush Offers:
  • Hourglass has fused Ambient Lighting Powder, the cutting-edge collection of finishing powders, with an array of vivid cheek colors, creating a hybrid product that is unique, contemporary and revolutionary.
  • Unlike traditional blush, which tends to be flat, Ambient Lighting Blush uses Photoluminescent Technology to exhibit depth and dimension.
  • The airy, lightweight powders contain optically transparent particles that amplify the colors to a multidimensional level- effectively reinventing the way you view blush.
  • Ambient Lighting Blush is designed to be paired with Ambient Lighting Powder. Using the two products together imbues the entire complexion with an otherworldly glow.
  • The hand-made powders are formulated using an advanced miscelare technique-which means “to mix” in Italian- creating the perfect balance of pigment and powder, and no two look alike.
  • Delivers a natural radiant finish and offers buildable color.

If you’re unfamiliar with Hourglass Cosmetics, let’s review a few things about the brand. Hourglass Cosmetics are free of parabens, talc, fragrance, nanoparticles and gluten. Plus No Animal Testing! Always a great start with any beauty brand. Hourglass Cosmetics Ambient Lighting Blush Palette will be available October 2014 at Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Net-A-Porter, Sephora, Space NK, and Hourglass Cosmetics.

HOURGLASS AMBIENT LIGHTING BLUSH REVIEW

Courtesy of Hourglass Cosmetics
Hello beautynistas! Hourglass Cosmetics showed up on The Makeup Examiner’s radar last June with my introduction to Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation and the following month I was wowed again with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder and Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick. Now, Hourglass has introduced Ambient Lighting Blush!

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush is available in six shades:
  • Radiant Magenta - A golden fuchsia blush combined with Radiant Light for a summer glow.
  • Mood Exposure - A soft plum blush fused with Mood Light to brighten the complexion.
  • Diffused Heat - A vibrant poppy blush combined with Diffused Light for a subtle halo effect.
  • Ethereal Glow - A cool pink blush fused with Ethereal Light for a moonlit luminosity.
  • Dim Infusion - A subdued coral blush fused with Dim Light to add warmth.
  • Luminous Flush - A champagne rose blush fused with Luminous Light to evoke a candlelit glimmer.

If you’re unfamiliar with Hourglass Cosmetics, let’s review a few things about the brand. Hourglass Cosmetics are free of parabens, talc, fragrance, nanoparticles and gluten. Plus No Animal Testing! Always a great start with any beauty brand. But, does Ambient Lighting Blush ($35) do anything special?

To start, the science behind these blushes is rather interesting. Each begins with a base of Ambient Lighting Powder, which is swirled together to create a blush that delivers a really beautiful touch of color. Yes, Ambient Lighting Blush offers buildable coverage. But for me, I like a healthy kiss of barely-the-there color.

So Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush gets a big plus for versatility. Unfortunately, sometimes there is a downside to the best of brands. I really disliked the consistency of the blush. It’s almost chalky and that is not something that I, personally, can deal with.  If you can get passed the consistency, then Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush is worth a try. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush is available at Hourglass Cosmetics and select retail locations.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Review and Giveaway

Hello again lovelies! It’s Friday, it fun-day and it’s a giveaway! Yes, The Makeup Examiner has scored another exclusive giveaway for readers. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder just made Sephora’s “Hot Now” list, but before TME was willing to offer her beautiful readers an opportunity to win anything, she had to make sure that Hourglass puts the art in state-of-the-art, as they say.

So you may be asking, “What is Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder?” Aside from a product that is flying off of the shelves, it is a makeup wardrobe of six finishing powders ($45 each) designed to create a perfect canvas and capture the most flattering light for your face. Each of the six Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders is highly pigmented, with a luxurious consistency and absolutely creates the effect that one is seeking. The Ambient Lighting Powder is of the precise level of quality that The Makeup Examiner has come to expect, and love, from Hourglass Cosmetics.

“But, how does it work?” you ask. This, dear readers, is kind of mind blowing. The various powders mimic six universally flattering light sources! Hourglass delivers this by utilizing “photoluminescent technology,” which are micron-size, color-correcting particles that refract light and create transparent coverage. And as with all Hourglass products, Ambient Lighting Powder is paraben free, talc free, gluten free and never tested on animals.

Here is the list of the six powder shades and the effect they provide:
  • Ethereal - An opalescent sheer, cool white powder that mimics a moonlit glow, even in broad daylight
  • Diffused - A soft, warm, pale yellow powder that conceals redness and gives skin clarity, like a soft ray of morning light
  • Dim - A neutral peach beige powder that blurs imperfections and highlights a radiant complexion with the perfect balance of warm and cool tones
  • Mood - A soft, sheer lavender pink powder that mimics the softest, most forgiving light and brightens the complexion
  • Luminous - A champagne pearl powder that creates a soft, incandescent candlelit glow, day or night
  • Radiant - A sun-kissed golden beige that enhances the overall complexion with believable, subtle warmth, and also extends a summer glow

Sounds amazing, doesn’t it? After all, Hourglass puts the art in state-of-the-art! Well, six (6) lucky readers will win one (1) of the six Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder effects.

Hourglass offers ‘Immaculate’ acne-fighting makeup solutions

June is National Acne Awareness Month and with nearly 60 million Americans affected by this common skin disorder, it’s a good time to discuss a new solution. But, let’s begin with a few statistics.

Here’s a look at the stats from the American Academy of Dermatology:
  • Acne is the number one skin disorder in the United States.
  • 95% of people will experience acne at some point in their lives.
  • 30% of women ages 20 to 60 are troubled by breakouts.
  • 14% of women battle acne well into their 40s.
  • Facial scarring due to acne affects nearly 20 million Americans.

Dermatologists refer to acne that does not clear by a person’s early-20s as persistent acne. This type of acne is more common in women. Persistent acne tends to form on the lower face, predominately around the mouth, on the chin, and along the jaw line.

The Makeup Examiner was rather fortunate to dodge the “teen acne” years, with just the occasional inconvenient breakout. I had great skin … and then I hit 30. It was like, “Happy 30th Birthday!!!! Have a big, painful zit!!!!” Acne at 13 is much different from acne at 30. That birthday surprise gave me a little insight into the challenges that severe and persistent acne sufferers encounter when attempting to find non-irritating makeup solutions. A new innovative makeup solution to hit the market is Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation by Hourglass.

Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation is a breakthrough liquid to powder formula that absorbs oil, camouflages imperfections, and delivers a long-lasting velvet matte finish. Shortly after launching Immaculate in Spring 2012, Hourglass received an influx of emails from customers claiming Immaculate had cleared their skin. This prompted Hourglass to commission a 4-week consumer study of 30 women with oily, acne-prone skin.

The dramatic results were released at the beginning of June:
  • 100% reported an improvement in overall skin appearance and skin smoothness
  • 100% reported that the product worked without drying skin out
  • 83% reported a decrease in oil production and the need for touch-ups
  • 80% reported a visible improvement in acne scars
  • 70% reported a visible improvement in pore size
  • 63% reported a reduction in the severity of breakouts

The Makeup Examiner tried Immaculate and loved the silky feel, gorgeous matte finish, and long-lasting wear. Of course, my experience with persistent acne is nominal, so The Makeup Examiner enlisted intern/friend, Mallory, to put Immaculate to the test. Mallory is 24-years-old, with sensitive skin, and avoids wearing foundation because it irritates her skin. Here’s what she had to say about Immaculate:

“Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation is long lasting and I enjoy that in the summer weather, as it won't sweat it off my face. It's oil-free, and for someone like me who does not wear foundation often, I like this perk that Immaculate provides because it means no breakouts. [Immaculate] really does have a flawless finish. It's very face friendly.”

The Makeup Examiner would not have believed that makeup could be part of an acne-fighting skincare regime had it not been for the study and testimonials. What’s rather astonishing is that Immaculate bridges the gap between skincare and cosmetics, and does so without using ingredients like salicylic acid, which can lead to severe dryness and flaking. For women dealing with problematic skin, the idea of a foundation that delivers a flawless finish and at the same time helps clear a complexion is quite astounding.

Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation ($55) is offered in 16 blendable shades from Pearl to Chestnut and you can view consumer testimonials here. Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation by Hourglass is available at the website and select retail locations across the United States and Internationally.
