Katy Perry at the 2015 GRAMMYs Get The Look With Jake Bailey

Still riding her post-Super Bowl performance high, KatyPerry shined on the red carpet at the 57th Grammy Awards, held on Feb. 8. Katy wore an outfit fresh off the Paris Couture runway, a crystal-embellished, sheer dress by Zuhair Murad. Her gorgeous Red Carpet Look was created by TME favorite Jake Bailey

Jake's Inspiration: "Katy and I decided on a dewy rose/nude palette for [last night's] look. This is what I call a 'balanced' look ... all key features are in play. Eyes, cheeks, and lips so one does not outdo the other. Often makeup looks are 'all about the lips' or 'all about the eyes' with the other features playing a supporting role. This is an ensemble cast of colors."

Katy Perry Grammy 2015 Get The Look:

Skin: I matched Katy's skin to COVERGIRL Stay Fabulous Outlast3-in-1 Foundation in Natural Beige and buffed a small amount evenly all over her face and neck using a flat tipped kabuki style foundation brush. I then lengthened and arched her brows using COVERGIRL Pow-Der Brow + Liner in Medium Brown.

Eyes: I began the eye look with COVERGIRL Eye Shadow Quads in Blooming Blushes. I began with the darkest shade blending it into the crease and outer corners of her eyes to elongate and add depth. I then used the second darkest shade along the middle of her lids, the third shade on the inner lid and the lightest shade as a highlighter concentrated on the innermost corners of the eye and to highlight the brow bone creating a multidimensional eye in soft complimentary colors. I then created her signature "cat eye" using COVERGIRL Bombshell Intensity Liner. I finished the eyes with two coats on the top and bottom with COVERGIRL Full Lash Bloom by LashBlast Mascara.

Having finished the eye I touched up the skin a bit and dusted her lightly with COVERGIRL Clean Powder to set. I then took the paler shades from the COVERGIRL Clean Glow Blush compact and swirled it onto the apples of her cheeks for a warm glow. I then took the darkest shade and blended it into the hollows of her cheeks to accentuate her bone structure.

Lips: I finished the look by coating her lips with a warm nude lipstick called Sultry Sienna from the COVERGIRL Colorlicious Lipstick collective and topping it with just a touch of COVERGIRL Colorlicious Lip Gloss in Melted Toffee for shine.

CoverGirl Katy Perry Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show Get The Look

Katy Perry rocked out with her halftime show performance for Super Bowl XLIX on Feb. 1. In case you didn’t know, the New England Patriots won. We will admit, despite Yvonne’s familial connection to the NFL … we didn’t watch the game. What can we say? We just wanted to see that halftime show … admit it … some of you did just the same! Celebrity makeup artist, and TME Favorite Jake Bailey gave us the complete how-to for Katy’s look and we are sharing it with TME readers!

Jake admitted that he was both excited and nervous: “Today is one of the most exciting days of my career! Knowing my work would be seen by millions and millions of people I've been understandably nervous. Katy's performance had multiple costume changes so I needed to create a strong look that would complement all of her outfits, as there was absolutely no time for a touch up in between the quick changes. It’s the Super Bowl after all!” Jake opted to go for a classic Katy look -- elongated cat eyes, lots of mascara, super sparkly gold and silver glitter, and a bold red lip for glamour and showmanship.

I wanted her to glow and sparkle for her big moment in just nine steps! ~ Jake Bailey
  1. To create a sheer and flawless canvas I began by buffing a dime size amount of CoverGirl Outlast 3-in-1 Foundation in Natural Beige all over her face and neck.
  2. For an elongated cat eye I used CoverGirl Perfect Point Plus Eyeliner in Black Onyx and painted a glitter adhesive just above the black liner and carefully placed a mix of gold and silver glitter on the adhesive with a tiny eyeliner brush for precision.
  3. Then I applied CoverGirl Eye Shadow Quads in Blooming Blushes to add warmth and dimension. I love this palette because it takes the guesswork out of getting gorgeous eyes, it has number for the shades – 1,2,3,4 – so I know just how to apply! I used the fourth shade to define the crease and the first shade to highlight the lids.
  4. I finished the eye look with an aggressive lash curling and two coats of new CoverGirl Full Lash Bloom by LashBlast Mascara in Very Black that left her lashes voluminous and touchably soft throughout her performance! No time for flakes during this performance.
  5. To give her brows shape and structure, I added CoverGirl Pow-der Brow + Liner in Dark Brown.
  6. For extra dimension, I warmed her cheeks using CoverGirl Clean Glow Blush in Roses using the lighter shades on the apples of her cheeks and the darker shade in the hollows of her cheeks
  7. Then I added CoverGirl truMAGIC Luminizer to her cheekbones and brow bones for a shimmery glow.
  8. Moving on to the lips, I lined and shaped her lips using CoverGirl Lip Perfection Lip Liner in Hot. I then applied a coat of new CoverGirl Colorlicious Lipstick in Seduce Scarlet - truly a classic red, for a classic Katy look.
  9. I topped it off with a tiny dollop of CoverGirl Lip Lava in Mauva Lava for a fun and bold lip look!

There you have it! A look appropriate for the biggest game of the year! You can grab your Super Bowl worthy CoverGirl products at mass retailers across the globe!

Katy Perry 2014 Grammy Looks From The Pop Princess’ Style Team

Lester Cohen/Getty
Everyone walking the Red Carpet at Sunday’s Grammy Awards definitely made a statement. But among the masses, Katy Perry really stood out and had the most transformative look that began with whimsical on the Red Carpet and morphed into sultry for the performance of her hit “Dark Horse”.

Katy, as always, was stunning and luckily The Makeup Examiner has Katy’s full beauty breakdown … straight from her expert beauty team! Peruse through the slideshow for your favorite look and the complete how-to!

Celebrity Stylist Renato Campora shares, “Katy wanted to wear her hair up and I was inspired by the soft, romantic look of her dress”. First I sprayed her hair with the Herbal Essences Naked Sheer Shine Mist and then blew it out to a sleek, polished finish. Once her hair was dry, I pulled it into a tight, high ponytail. To add more volume and texture to the ponytail, I sprayed the Herbal Essences Naked Dry Shampoo throughout the length of her hair. Then I twisted the ponytail and wrapped it around the base of her hair to create the crown. I secured the crown with bobby pins and misted the hair with the Herbal Essences Naked Flexible Hold Spritzer to polish her look and set her style in place.

Katy Perry 2014 Grammy’s Red Carpet Beauty by Jake Bailey - “Katy had a very clear idea of what she wanted for the Grammy’s this year. She wanted sexy eyes; elegant lashes and she wanted to GLOW! I was quick to agree as I had seen the ethereal gown she was going to wear – stunning!,” shared Jake.

I started by prepping her skin with Olay’s new Regenerist Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream. This is perfect to use under makeup as it delivers lots of moisture but still feels lightweight and foundation glides smoothly over it. Once the moisturizer had absorbed, I got to work on the skin. Since we were going for maximum "glow" I mixed equal parts CoverGirl BB cream and CoverGirl TruBLEND Liquid Foundation on the back of my palm before buffing it all over her face and neck with a soft brush for sheer coverage and a polished glow.

I started the eye look by painting a delicate line onto her lashline and a subtle “cat eye” wing in the outer corners of her eyes using CoverGirl Bombshell Liquid Liner. I then coated her lashes with Bombshell Volume Mascara, top and bottom. I used the first coat to get that volumized look and then applied the second coat for the intense jet-black wet lash look. I then applied Bombshell Shine Shadow in Gold Goddess into the crease of her eyelid and highlighted her lids and brow bones with Flamed Out Shadow in Blazing White. I finished the eye look with a strong brow and a coat of clear mascara to hold them in place.

Once I finished with the eyes, I warmed and highlighted her complexion using CoverGirl TruMAGIC Sunkisser and Luminizer. I blended the Sunkisser along the hairline and into the hollows of the cheeks to add warmth and dimension. I then took the Luminizer and used it to add a golden glow to her cheekbones, tip of her nose and just above the cupid’s bow of her lips. Once I set the makeup with CoverGirl + Olay Pressed Powder, I dusted a little bit of shimmery coral blush on the apples of her cheeks.

I finished the look with a fresh coral/pink shade called "Heavenly" from the CoverGirl LipPerfection collection and tipped it with a touch of balm for extra shine.

Katy Perry 2014 Grammy Performance Look by Jake Bailey - “Once Katy walked the red carpet it was time to take her into the performance look. The performance was going to be dark and dramatic so we needed to make a change but had very little time. I made a quick change by adding a strip of spidery false lashes and adding another coat of Bombshell Mascara for extra intensity. I took my CoverGirl Bombshell Liquid Liner and extended her eyeliner outward to look a little more ‘wicked’,” shared Jake.

The fastest way to dramatically change your look is always the lips. We went from a fresh coral pink to a deep cranberry and she was instantly transformed from ethereal red carpet bombshell into a sultry witch. The shade we chose was “Euphoria” also from CoverGirl LipPerfection. She liked the color so much that she kept it on for the rest of the show as it went perfectly with her post performance outfit.

We chose a light pink shade called “Everbloom” from the CoverGirl Outlast Nail Gloss collection. It offered just a subtle hint of color to keep the focus on her gown and flawless face,” shares Celebrity Manicurist Kimmie Kyees.

Jake Bailey Reveals Secrets To Katy Perry’s AMA Look Exclusive!

Katy Perry and Jake Bailey - Courtesy of Jake Bailey
Katy Perry kicked off the American Music Awards (AMAs) Sunday, Nov. 24 with some serious Perry power. Taking to the Nokia Theatre stage in Los Angeles to perform her latest single, “Unconditionally,” Perry donned traditional Japanese dress and was joined by dancers, also donning traditional costume, for the live performance of the latest single off her album, “Prism”. But prior to taking to the stage, Katy rocked the Red Carpet in a stunning black strapless Oscar de la Renta gown, reminiscent of old Hollywood chic.

The Makeup Examiner caught up with Celebrity Makeup Artist Jake Bailey, who created Katy’s look for both the Red Carpet and her 2013 AMA performance and in an exclusive, Jake shares how he created Katy’s classic Red Carpet and whimsical performance looks.
Kay Perry’s Red Carpet Look: “The moment I saw Katy's beautiful Oscar de la Renta gown I knew we would do a red lip. Pairing it with black liner and lots of lashes we created a look that is ‘classic Katy,’” said Jake.

  • I started with a sheer application of CoverGirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation in Buff Beige #825. This foundation is perfect for the red carpet because it provides full coverage, but can be blended sheerly for light yet durable coverage. It lasts forever and the SPF 20 is great for a daytime red carpet event because [celebrities] have to stand in the sun for so long!
  • For the eyes I started by creating a classic Hollywood eye line using CoverGirl Liquiline Blast Eyeliner in Black Fire #410. I love this pencil because you can create the look of a liquid liner but it's much easier to apply. I accentuated the crease of her lid using Flamed Out Shadow Pot in Melted Caramel #330 and finished with the NEW Bombshell Volume Mascara in Very Black #800 – it creates extreme volume!
  • I then set the foundation with a light dusting of CoverGirl + Olay Pressed Powder in Light #330 and warmed the apples of her cheeks with Clean Glow Blush in Roses #100
  • I finished the look with a classic bold red lip, using CoverGirl LipPerfection in Hot #305 with matching liner. I used the liner to perfect her lip shape before applying color

Katy Perry’s Performance Look: “For Katy's performance we created a look inspired by her recent trip to Japan. This was a dramatic look and we only had a short amount of time to make the change so I had to work fast,” said Jake.

  • I started by dusting her all over with a theatrical powder from Ben Nye called “Super White” to pale out her complexion as quickly as possible. On her lips I refreshed her CoverGirl LipPerfection in Hot #305 and used the liner to make her lips more bow shaped.
  • I applied CoverGirl Checkers Blush in Classic Pink #110 all over the sides of her face concentrating the most pigment on her temples. I finished her look with triangular lashes I created by cutting into a particularly large false lash with small cuticle scissors to create the angular shape. This created her dramatic stage look!
And there you have it Katycats!

Tips from celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey

Manic Makeup Monday: Tips from celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey

Tips From Celebrity Makeup Artist Jake Bailey

Happy Monday my lovelies! In the U.S., Thanksgiving is this Thursday, Nov. 22 and the Thanksgiving holiday marks the beginning of the holiday season. So as the holidays kick into high gear, the Makeup Examiner thought that it might be a nice idea to forgo a Manic Makeup Monday question and share some tips from celebrity makeup artist Jake Bailey.

Jake Bailey is one of The Makeup Examiner’s favorite artists. His clients include some of the world’s most stunning women including, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Alba, Cameron Diaz, Kyra Sedgwick, and Katy Perry. In conjunction with his clientele, Jake’s work has graced the covers of Elle, Rolling Stone, Shape, InStyle and GQ. Whether you're changing up your daytime appearance for a professional holiday get-together or going for the glam at a holiday party, Jake’s tips are sure to be helpful.

During the holiday season we seem to always be on the go and I know that I may sound like a broken record, but I simply cannot place enough emphasis upon sanitary makeup application practices. And if my word isn’t enough this is what Jake Bailey had to say, “Puffs [facial] tissues are a great single-use beauty tool that can be used for a variety of application techniques from blending to blotting. Not only are they wonderfully versatile, but each fresh tissue ensures a sanitary application or touch-up of product.”

Jake shared that facial tissues are a staple in any makeup artist’s kit and facial tissues are definitely part of my beauty arsenal. When I’m on the go, I don’t carry a ton of beauty products. As I shared in the article, “Are you guilty of committing beauty crimes?,” there are a variety of simple and sanitary ways to touch up your makeup throughout the day.

The best way to blot your makeup – Take a tissue, separate the two-ply, wrap the single-ply tissue around a sponge, blot off any excess shine and foundation.

The proper way to blot your lipstick – Apply lipstick, fold tissue, place the tissue at the corners of your mouth and roll your lips over the tissue. This removes any excess lipstick and really presses the product into your lips for longer wear.

The most effective beauty-blending tool – Take the tissue and fold into a triangle, this creates a soft, yet strong beauty-blending tool that’s ideal for blending out concealer in your delicate eye area.

Note: A big Thank You to Jake!
