Summer 2017 Beauty and Grooming Essentials Part Two

Hey! Before you run off to parts known and unknown to kick off what is going to be the best summer ever, we wanted to make sure that you had a whisper about the best beauty and men’s grooming essentials for Summer 2017. Check out “Summer 2017 Beauty and Grooming Essentials Part One” and read on for even more products that are going to make this season sizzle!

For The Guys: TME has always had a really strong male readership. We love that! And it was a specific endeavor on the part of Yvonne to bring the guys into the fold. We still find it kinda cute that the guys can be a little shy about asking questions. Don’t be! You deserve to pamper yourselves just as much as the ladies.

Our current favorites just for our guys … L’Occitane’s Cade Collection ($65) - rich with woody notes of juniper, sandalwood, pink pepper and rosemary, this set includes Cade Shaving Cream, Cade Shower Gel for Hair and Body and Cade After-Shave Balm. L’Occitane’s Mer & Mistral Collection ($75) – is bursting with zesty and sweet citrus, along with rosemary, pine and cypress! This is such a fresh and clean fragranced collection that had every member of Team TME in complete agreement that you need this for Summer 2017! The Mer & Mistral Collection includes Mer & Mistral Eau de Toilette, Shower Gel and Body Lotion. If you haven’t gotten one of Harry’s Shave Sets, treat yourself. A few years ago, Yvonne gave a Harry’s Razor to her “has everything, needs nothing” brother and he hasn’t used another brand since. Team TME’s Harry Pick; Harry’s Daily Face Wash ($7) and Harry’s Truman Razor Set ($15) that includes Truman Razor Handle, Foaming Shave Gel, 3 Blade Cartridges, and Travel Blade Cover. Rounding out our picks for the guys is the Evolutionman Sport Guy Kit ($80) that includes Nu Noir Face & Body Wash, Moisture Protect SPF 20, Lip Balm SPF 15, EVMAN Sport Bottle, and EVMAN Square Dopp Kit Bag.

Lovely Locks: Wouldn’t it be amazing if the summer breezes didn’t blow up our hair? Sun at the beach, chlorine poolside, humidity … oh vey! Before you resign yourself to donning that hat that you bought for Coachella, Team TME has a few other options for controlling unruly summertime hair.

Sun and After Sun Hair Care: Phyto Plage Protective Sun Veil ($30) – this lightweight sun mist protects hair and guards color from UV damage or Macadamia Professional Sun Shield Dry Oil Veil ($20) with its delicious coconut cream scent, this pre-sun treatment spray shields hair from harmful rays. When you’re done playing in the sun, Macadamia Professional After Sun Leave-In Repair ($20) is perfect, as it absorbs instantly and helps nourish summer hair.

Wash It Out: There are so many shampoos and conditioners, but a few new ones that we are loving for the summer are the TRESemmé Bontanique Collection that includes TRESemmé Bontanique Shampoo and Conditioner ($5.99 each) which are infused with coconut milk and aloe vera.  There is also Macadamia Professional Endless Summer Sun & Surf Shampoo and Conditioner ($20 each) that keeps hair protected against UV rays while you’re soaking up the sun … and against chlorine and salt while you’re splashing around in the pool and ocean. Our final recommendation is Phyto Plage After-Sun Rehydrating Hair & Body Shampoo ($24), which is the perfect one-step cleansing gel to wash away sand, salt, and chlorine from hair, leaving it deeply moisturized and super-soft.

Stylin’: Beachy waves are a timeless summer look. Actually, we saw a lot of beach waves during Fashion Week. The relaxed gentle wave seems to fit just about everyone – no matter face shape or hair length … and even hair texture. Beach or “Boho” waves are just as appropriate for the office as for the beach. To achieve the look, it begins with the correct styling products. Our current favorites; ALTERNA Haircare Bamboo Beach Summer Ocean Waves Tousled Texture Spray ($22) and the BEACHWAVER Pro ($199.99), an innovative professional rotating curling iron invented by celebrity hairstylist and TME favorite Sarah Potempa. If you’re looking for volume, Caviar Anti-Aging Miracle Multiplying Volume Mist ($28)!

Protect and Hold: Of course your only option for beautiful summer hair is not bound to beach waves. Peruse our Summer Beauty section for hairspiration and the tools for achieving those easy styles are plentiful. Our current favorites; Kérastase L'incroyable Blowdry ($40) to complete protect your locks; Kerastase Elixir Ultime Oleo Complex ($58), Phyto Phytolisse Ultra Glossing Finishing Serum ($30), Alterna Bamboo Kendi Oil Dry Oil Mist ($25), and Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Perfect Texture Finishing Spray ($28). For on the go, we love Bosley Pro BosRenew Volumizing Dry Shampoo ($19) and Macadamia Professional Style Extend Dry Shampoo ($25).

The Tools: Anything that makes our lives easier is a major plus, especially when it comes to our hair or makeup during the summer. Perhaps, these two collections maybe oddly paired but we loved these so much that we had to mention them to our favorite people … our readers! Artis Fluenta 9 Brush Set ($450) and the invisibobble Original Secret Garden Collection ($25), which is a limited edition collection of hair rings that are perfect for a sleek ponytail or pinless chignon.

Have a safe and amazing holiday weekend! ~xo Team TME

Kérastase Red Carpet Looks

Yes, the 2016 Golden Globes are behind us and this weekend will bring us the SAG Awards. But there’s never an off time for a spot on Red Carpet look. Stephanie Sigman, Daria Strokous and Isabeli Fontana were styled by Celebrity Hairstylist, Jennifer Yepez for the Globes and we are sharing the “how-tos” for these stunning ladies!

INSPIRATION: “Stephanie was looking to get a completely new hairstyle and change for the night of Globes, so we decided to cut her hair short. For the styling, we wanted to do a textured, yet sleek look.”

STEP 1: Jennifer cut Stephanie’s hair into a shaggy, layered bob.

STEP 2: Jennifer applied Discipline Keratine Thermique on Stephanie’s damp hair.

STEP 3: Then, she rough blow-dried the hair completely. Once dry, she used a 1” curling iron to bend the hair.

STEP 4: Next, Jennifer used a flat iron on Stephanie’s ends to create a super sleek look.

STEP 5: Jennifer then applied Nutritive Touche Perfection Balm all over, focusing on the ends of the hair.

STEP 6: To finish the look and set the hair, Jennifer sprayed Laque Dentelle all over.

INSPIRATION: “Daria wore this amazing Versace gown with a beautiful back. We wanted to keep her hair up to highlight the dress, but also wanted to keep her look very cool and not too formal. We opted for a super textured, high pony.”

STEP 1: First, Jennifer applied Mousse Bouffante on Daria’s damp hair.

STEP 2: Next, she used Résistance Ciment Thermique on the ends of the hair and blow dried with a round brush.

STEP 3: Jennifer then used a 1” curling iron all over and curled the hair in different directions to add body and texture.

STEP 4: Then, she used her fingers to gently brush out some curls.

STEP 5: Jennifer pulled Daria’s hair back into a high pony and secured it with a hook elastic, then wrapped a small piece of Daria’s hair around the elastic and pinned.

STEP 6: To sleek down the edges and flyaways, Jennifer sprayed Laque Couture on targeted areas.

INSPIRATION: “Isabeli’s dress was absolutely amazing and chic. We wanted to create a very glamourous, classic look to complement the dress. We decided to go with a very sleek bun and deep part.”

STEP 1: To start, Jennifer applied Résistance Ciment Thermique on Isabeli’s ends as well as the NEW! Kérastase Elixir Ultime Volume Beautifying Oil Mist all over.

STEP 2: Jennifer blow dried Isabeli’s hair super sleek and flat to her head.

STEP 3: Next, she sprayed Laque Couture all over to hold the sleek style.

STEP 4: Jennifer then parted the hair and pulled back into a low, sleek bun. She secured the bun with small hair pins.

STEP 5: To ensure there were no flyaways, Jennifer used a small toothbrush and Laque Couture all over.

STEP 6: To finish the look and create a shiny finish, Jennifer applied Elixir Ultime Original Oil on Isabeli’s bun and around her hairline.

Willow Shields at ‘The Hunger Games Mockingjay 2’ Premiere Get The Look

Willow Shields looked whimsically beautiful as she stepped out for the L.A. premiere of “The Hunger Games Mockingjay: Part 2” on Nov. 16. The 15-year-old actress rocked a Naeem Khan gown paired with perfectly undone waves. And Celebrity Hairstylist Ryan Richman has shared the look with TME!

Get The Look:

Step 1: To start, I prepped Willow’s damp hair with Kérastase Mousse Bouffante to add body throughout the style. Using my blow dryer and my fingers I roughdried the hair focusing at the root.  Tip: for added volume flip upside down or use your fingers to lift the hair 90 degrees from the scalp while blow-drying.

Step 2: when the hair was about 90% dry, I misted Willow’s hair with Kérastase Spray-a-Porter. This is a great spray for extra hold that gives a tousled effect.

Step 3: Next, finished the blow dry with a medium boar bristle round brush being careful not to over smooth the hair and to leave some natural texture.

Step 4: Using a 1" flat iron I enhanced the natural wave of the hair.  At the root of a 1" section of hair I closed the iron softly and slid the iron down the hair while bending it back and forth in opposite directions following the natural S pattern in the hair.  I continued this throughout the entire head and finished each section with L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray.

Step 5: To finish the look I applied a small amount of Kérastase Short Mania to my fingers tips and tousled the hair focusing at the root to break up the style.  I created a messy deep side part with my fingers and sprayed the style with Kérastase Powder Bluff for a matte textured finish.

Kérastase products are available online at Kérastase USA and L’Oréal Paris Elnett is available online at L’Oreal Paris!

Kate Bosworth ‘The Art of More’ Movie Premiere Get The Look

Kate Bosworth looked funky chic on Thursday, October 29 for the premiere of “The Art Of More” at Sony Studios. With her hair coiffed stunning by Bridget Brager for Kérastase Paris – the look in enviable. And we have the full breakdown on how to get the look!

Inspiration: “This look was a nod to the 60's with a modern twist. Kate wore this amazing patchwork mini dress, so we wanted to create a textured, yet mod look to compliment the dress.” - Bridget Brager

STEP 1:  To start, Bridget prepped Kate’s hair using Matérialiste Thickening Spray Gel to give the hair a clean, voluminous texture.

STEP 2: Once Kate’s hair was dry, Bridget set the hair using a jumbo curling iron for extra body.

STEP 3: Next, holding the bottle 12 inches away from hair, Bridget misted the Spray-a-Porter all over and used a cool blow dryer to set the hair. This helped to add texture without a lot of weight.

STEP 4: After gently combing through the hair to break up the product, Bridget created a deep side part and brushed the hair over to one side. She allowed the hair to fall in front of Kate’s face and swooped her hair over to cover the forehead, corner of her eye, side of cheek and ear. The helped to bring the 60’s-inspired look to life.

STEP 5: On the right side Bridget brushed the hair straight back and joined both side of the hair at the nape. Next, she twisted the hair in to an S-Shape securing the look with hair pins.

STEP 6: To finish the look, Laque Dentelle Hairspray was sprayed all over, locking in the style.

Met Gala 2015 Celebrity Style Get The Look

Did you get enough of the how-tos for last night’s Met Ball? Of course you didn’t! So, Team TME has more!

Joan Smalls – Celebrity Stylist, Jennifer Yepez using Kérastase

Beauty Inspiration: “Tonight, Joan Smalls was wearing a beautiful, purple Roberto Cavalli dress. The dress was sexy, and also rock 'n roll. Joan walked the carpet with Peter Dundas, who wanted Joan’s hair to be super sleek hair with a middle part. To get Joan’s sleek look, shiny hair products and heat protection are key. I chose Kérastase because these are my favorite.”

Step 1: First, I applied both Kérastase Discipline Keratine Thermique and Kérastase Nutritive Nectar Thermique on the mid-shaft to ends of the hair. I recommend this for most hair types, but if hair tends to get frizzy or is very dry, then I suggest using one of the Thermique’s along with Kérastase Disciple Spray Fluidissime.

Step 2: Next, blow-dry the hair with a large, round brush.

Step 3: After you have blow-dried hair all over, take a flat iron to all of the hair, making sure to flat iron from root to end.

Step 4: Then, apply Kérastase Couture Styling Touché Final evenly throughout hair, root to tip.  If you have fine hair, just use it mid-shaft to the ends.

Step 5: Once finished, spray Kérastase Couture Styling Laque Couture on the top of the hair and to smooth down flyaways

Kérastase Hair Care is available online and at select retail locations.

Solange Knowles - Makeup by Miguel Ramos for NARS Cosmetics

Beauty Inspiration: “Solange didn't want to take the theme of the Met Gala too literally but was still in theme with the front flap of the dress resembling a fan. To me, the structure and print of garment resembled a black hole in the universe. The eyes are often referred to as windows to the soul we focused on a very captivating eye.”

Key NARS products used: Lysithea Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow,  Fervor Dual-Intensity Blush, Audacious Mascara (NEW for Fall 2015)

Zoe Kravitz - Makeup by Renee Garnes for NARS Cosmetics

Beauty Inspiration: “The inspiration for Zoe's look was the Chinese Terra Cotta Army meets the daughter of Aunty Entity (Tina Turner's character) in ‘Mad Max’.”

Key NARS products used: Craving Dual-Intensity Blush, All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

NARS products, expect where noted, are available online at NARS and NARS Boutiques.

Jessica Chastain - Celebrity Hair Stylist Ryan Trygstad for S Factor by TIGI

Beauty Inspiration: "We were inspired by Rita Hayworth and the serious glamour of her era. I researched exactly how Rita set her hair back in the 40s and drew inspiration from there. The look is a cross between a sideswept updo and a faux bob that perfectly displays Jessica's gorgeous ruby earrings."

Step1: Prep hair with S Factor by TIGI Stunning Volume Shampoo & Conditioner

Step 2: Next, spray a liberal amount of S Factor by TIGI Body Booster Plumping Spray on damp hair, focusing on the roots. Emulsify the S Factor by TIGI Silky Smooth Moisture Serum and True Lasting Colour Hair Oil and smooth onto ends for a high sheen look.

Step 4; Wrap small sections of hair around a 1.5" barrel curling iron, curling hair inward toward the face, pin back one side of hair behind the same ear

Kerastase Paris Densifique Collection Preview

Launching in the US in May, the Kérastase DensifiqueCollection is the first line of luxury care to address life-stressed hair and is designed to focus upon hair density. The Makeup Examiner was thrilled to preview the newest offering from Kérastase Paris and the science behind this new collection is rather fascinating, as it combines several tech-based solutions to counter everything from loss of root thickness to loss of shine and resilience.

Based upon a found link between life stressors and women suffering from thinning hair, the Kérastase Densifique Collection takes a multi-targeted approach by addressing the problem from root to ends. “The effects of ‘life-stressed hair’ – loss of density, shine and resilience – can be brought on at any stage in a woman’s life. From the stress of a break-up or finding your first job in your 20’s, to pregnancy or divorce in your 30’s, or the multitude of health and hormonal shifts that occur in a woman’s 40’s, 50’s and beyond.” explains Barbara De Laere, VP and General Manager of Kérastase USA.

Unlike prescription or OTC remedies aimed at hair loss, Densifique takes a multifaceted approach suitable for anyone frustrated by loss of density for any reason. The Densifique collection uses innovation from the L’Oréal Advanced Research Laboratories in Paris to treat the three hair growth zones – roots, lengths and ends – with a proprietary renewal complex of ceramides, gluco-peptides and hyaluronic acid. So, now that you’ve had your science lesson for the day, let’s check out the products!

The Kérastase Densifique Collection offers three products, all of which smell delicious and are actually very effective. The Makeup Examiner tapped her mother to test the collection and she too agreed that the line smells amazing, but was more thrilled with the results. I can’t state my mother’s age because I enjoy my life, but the factors that have led to her issues with thinning hair are a combination of hormonal shifts and life-stressors [Life-Stressor -- She’s The Makeup Examiner’s Mother! ;)].

Densifique Collection:

Densifique Bain Densité ($39) - Formulated with Ceramides and Hyaluronic Acid, Bain Densité gently cleanses while helping strengthen hair from the root to ends. It leaves the hair more supple, resistant and denser-looking.

Densifique Masque Densité ($62.50) – Is a unique gel-texture mask, which combines Gluco-Peptides and Hyaluronic Acid to create immediate hair transformation as soon as it is applied, provides smoothness and lightness to hair that is lacking density. The hair is regenerated from roots to ends. The Makeup Examiner couldn’t resist testing the Masque Densité and found that it delivered great luster to my hair.

Densifique Densimorphose Mousse ($42) - This decadent, skin-care inspired rich mousse is enriched with Hyaluronic Acid and Gluco-Peptides that instantly transforms the hair, fiber by fiber for a visible volume result. The hair fiber is suppler, beginning at the roots, and the hair is light and shiny.

Hands-down, the Kérastase Densifique Collection is worth trying according to TME’s mother/model. The Kérastase Densifique Collection will be available in May at KérastaseConsultant Salons and online at Kérastase. For more information about this transformative line, check out Kérastase on Facebook and YouTube.
