What’s Up At ghd Hair And Bonus GTL For Khloe, Kerry and Olivia

Have you ever wondered how Hollywood’s leading ladies keep their hair healthy and strong on the Red Carpet during Award’s season? All of those “touch-ups” and even mid-show style changes! That is some rough going on gentle locks for sure! Well, apparently the answer to this question is contained within a tube… the secret to long-lasting lovely locks seems to be ghd’s Advanced Split End Therapy. This magic restores hair by nourishing dry damaged ends and replenishing overworked tresses.

Unlike other hair treatments, the Advanced Split End Therapy ($28) features the ghd Thermo-Marine Bonding System, which is activated by the heat of your styler to bind broken hair fibers together to smooth and seal the hair, leaving hair feeling sleeker, smoother, and shinier for up to 10 washes. Fortify hair from styling damage and environmental stress for A-list hair all winter long. Hmmm… sounds amazing right about now. Okay, are you ready for the GTL for Khloe Kardashian, Kerry Washington, and Olivia Culpo?

We are OBSESSED with the half-up braided hairstyle ghd Brand Ambassador Justine Marjan created for Khloe Kardashian.

Step 1:  Prep damp hair with TRESemmé Keratin Smooth serum then blowdry with a smoothing brush and the ghd air hairdryer ($199).

Step 2: Create the partings for 3 braided sections, one on either side of the eyebrow, and one at the center parting.

Step 3: Add styling pomade to each sections, then create a braid to the crown of the head and clip away.

Step 4:  Once every section is braided, add pomade to the sections between the braids then comb into a half up hairstyle and secure with an elastic.

Step 5:  Flat iron the rest of the hair with a ghd platinum styler ($249), then use more serum through the ends.

Justine Marjan was busy creating this season’s hottest hairstyles at the Sundance Film Festival for Kerry Washington and Olivia Culpo. Check out these tips on how Justine created Kerry Washington’s voluminous, textured ponytail and Olivia Culpo’s edgy, dutch braid ponytail.

Kerry Washington’s Textured Ponytail How-To:

Step 1: “I used my ghd platinum styler ($249) to smooth the hair before gathering it into a high ponytail with styling pomade at the roots.”

Step 2: “I curled the pony in tiny sections alternating directions with my ghd curve classic curl iron ($199). Then I sprayed the pony with dry shampoo, lifted it up and backbrushed, then pieced it out with the end of my rat tail comb and sprayed with extreme hold hairspray to finish.”

Olivia Culpo’s Braided Ponytail How-To:

Step 1: “First apply Keratin Smooth serum to damp hair then blow dry smooth with a ghd air hairdryer ($199) and flat brush. Then create a clean middle part, then another part from the arch of the eyebrow to the crown of the head. Clip the rest of the hair away.”

Step 2: “ Next apply smoothing pomade to the roots then create a Dutch Braid on either side of the middle part. When the braid reaches the crown of the head, create a 3-strand braid to the ends and secure with an elastic. Apply more pomade to the roots of the rest of the hair then use a fine toothcomb to gather into a high ponytail.

Step 3: “Lastly, spray a smoothing brush with high impact hairspray then brush the hair into a smooth pony and secure with a hair bungee. Using the ghd curve classic curl iron ($199) to curl through the length of the pony then wrap the base with velvet ribbon to finish.”

Emmy Beauty How To Roundup

Celebrity stylist, David Gardner, was the man behind Emmy WINNER Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ mane for the 2015 Emmys and she couldn’t have looked any more gorgeous! Gardner exclusively used Peter Lamas products (starting the day before with a super-nourishing mask) and has the step-by-step instructions and tips so you can easily recreate the look at home!

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Get The Look:

Most hair stylists would start with shampooed and conditioned hair; I start a step before that and ask that Julia or any of my clients start the night before and take a moment to do the Peter Lamas Youth Revival 5 Oil Hair Treatment Mask (which will be launching soon!). Apply the Mask to freshly shampooed hair (I prefer to keep it all in the same family and use Peter Lamas’ Soy & Baobab Oil Hydrating Shampoo) to get all the day’s build-up out and then the Mask can really get in there and do work! I have my ladies do this for two reasons:

Step 1: If the hair isn't clean from build-up (or who knows what they've been subjected to at work), I can’t do my job on Emmy day.

Sep 2:  The mask is an incredible strengthener and thickener that is far from making the hair heavy or flat; it fills porous, damaged areas and gives you a real head start in the volume department.

Step 3: Next, grab your Peter Lamas Volumize Me Sea Silk Styling Mousse. LOVE THIS STUFF! It’s packed full of proteins, like kiwi (an antioxidant) and sea silk to protect. This mousse will jack the hold-power up while protecting the hair from heat and wear-and-tear. Apply an egg-sized amount to towel-dried hair and use a wide-toothed comb to make sure it's distributed evenly.

Step 4:  Starting in the front (to achieve the swoop across the face), section off a Velcro roller width section and spray from root to tip with Peter Lamas  'Hold Me' Thermal Styling Spray. Wrap hair around your brush (all with hair dryer down - concentrate ladies, this is the foundation of the whole look and needs to be right) and over direct the roots down and forward and then roll back and off the face. Just make sure the roots are forward. Then, pick up your dryer and start to gently blow the section as it is, put the dryer down, re-roll all the way back to start, pick up the dryer and blow again.

  • THIS my beauties, is the basic way to do a Velcro roller set. You don't blow each section and put the roller in when done. You hold the brush still and blow on it as if it is actually a Velcro. Once the hair is dry, and while still hot, firmly put that Velcro roller in place and pin securely - hot-to-cold sets hair more than wet-to-dry.
  • Repeat this over and over: three back on the top and straight down the back all going under with roots nicely lifted away from the scalp; the sides, again over directing forward, but rolling back away from the face at 45 degrees away and under at an angle (you'll need this for the slight fullness on the sides). This takes a little time and is worth the effort for an all-day event like a wedding or a long night out as the hair will look sexier and sexier instead of flatter and flatter.
  • Once all the head is set in the Velcro, you literally leave it alone until you're 20 minutes away from walking out the door. The longer they stay in, the better. If you're in a rush, you can blow with the cold air button on any dryer and speed this process up.

PRO TIP: While the hair is rolled up and all the root area is exposed I like to give a good shot of the Peter Lamas Repair Me Amplifying Hydrating Mist – it gives a little bit of extra hold and lift to the root area.

Step 5: After the makeup and mini photo shoot is over (who doesn't look amazing in a robe and full makeup and a roller set?), take out all the rollers and using only your fingers, get in there and start to shake out the hair.

  • If your hair takes a curl really well, you may gently use a wide tooth comb here to get rid of the roller sections and if it's really indestructible, use a paddle brush.
  • If your hair falls easily, go section by section, back-comb the roots a little and let it take shape without pulling at all.
Step 6: Part the hair deeply to the side (or more towards the middle, wherever you like) and wait to see how much your hair falls (loses curl) or doesn't. If your hair doesn't fall at all and looks a little Miss America 1950, very carefully apply a little heat to the ends only while brushing through. You want to lose the perfect curl and get a 'kick out' like Julia's. As you get better at the roller set, you'll learn your hair and get faster and faster. Once desired 'curl' is achieved, apply a pea sized amount of the Peter Lamas Chinese Herbs Revitalizing Styling Cream to mid-lengths and ends to break it up and make the hair a little tousled and sexy. Give a final shot of Repair Me Amplifying Hydrating Mist and you're good to go!

Step 1: Apply Smooth Perfection Style Shaping Control Gel to damp hair. Dry smooth with a natural bristle round brush and create a deep side part.

Step 2: Using 1 1/4” iron, set hair with diagonal sections moving away from the part towards the opposite side. Spray each section first with Colour Stylist Strengthening Control zero dulling hairspray for added hold. Wind each section around the iron from roots to ends, and close iron on the ends.

Step 3: Create a horseshoe parting at the top and clip out of the way. Backcomb the underneath to create shape. Smooth the surface with a paddle brush, gather together at the back and create a roll into the nape and pin into place.

Step 4: Apply a small amount of Colour Stylist Density Definer medium hold crème wax to fingers, and run through individual pieces on the top. Gather ends, tuck under bob and pin into place. Allow a few tendrils to fall free.

Step 5: Finish with Colour Stylist Supreme Control high hold hair spray for colour-treated hair for lasting hold.

Step 1: Begin by washing hair with Pureology Nano Works Gold Shampoo and Condition featuring Golden Marula oil to restore youthful movement, suppleness and shine.

Step 2: For added strength and repair, lightly mist Perfect 4 Platinum Miracle Filler Treatment throughout while hair is still damp.

Step 3: Emulsify a small amount of Highlight Stylist Gold Definer contour shine-gel in your palms and work through for shine, bend and control.

Step 4: Beginning at the base of the neck, blow dry with a medium round brush taking about 2-inch sections creating barrel curls. Secure sections with clips while working your way to the top. Allow set to cool.

Step 5: Smooth hair with a soft bristle brush and lightly lace the root to mid-shaft for volume. Tuck sides behind the ears and finish with Colour Stylist Strengthening Control zero dulling hairspray for a hold that will last all night.

Gwendoline Christie Get The Look:

1. Apply a combination of TRESemmé Runway Make Waves Shaping Gel Cream and TRESemmé Extra Firm Control Mousse to clean, damp hair and rake throughout lengths.
2. Comb through the hair to ensure even coverage and set the foundation for lasting hold and shine.
3. Create a deep side part and begin forming an S-wave pattern in the hair using your fingers. Set waves into place using hair clips to help the pattern set.
4. Once entire head is waved and set with clips, use a diffuser to dry hair completely.
5. Remove clips and spray a bristle brush with TRESemmé TRES Two Ultra Fine Mist Hair Spray to gently brush out waves. As you brush out the waves, pay attention to the direction they flow to encourage the hair to sit in the S-wave pattern.
6. Finish the look by generously spraying TRESemmé TRES Two Ultra Fine Mist Hair Spray for glamourous waves that last.

Emmy Awards 2015 Uzo Aduba Beauty Breakdown

Already an Emmy winner for her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren on the Netflix hit series, “Orange Is the New Black”, Uzo Aduba once again took the Red Carpet by storm as a nominee at this year’s Awards. The acclaimed actress stunned audiences with a classic, Grace Kelly-inspired beauty look created by go-to makeup artist, Janice Kinjo.

“To complement Uzo’s elegant, intricately hand-painted gown, I created a makeup look that embodied the epitome of classic beauty. Long, lush lashes enhanced her subtly smokey eyes and defined brows, while I kept the rest of the makeup extra dewy and natural for a flawless finish.” – Janice Kinjo for SheaMoisture Cosmetics

  • I started by applying SheaMoisture Sheer Liquid Foundation in Montego Toffee to highlight the under-eye area, T-Zone and bridge of the nose. Then, I applied the shade in Ka’u Brown Blaze for a subtle contour before blending both shades with Canoa Espresso for a seamless finish.
  • To set foundation, I used SheaMoisture Wet/Dry Pressed Powder in Yala Golden, focusing on the high parts of the face the lighter foundation was applied. Then, I applied SheaMoisture Perfecting Face Powder Duo in Deep to the contours of the face, setting the deeper-toned foundation.
  • I applied SheaMoisture Lip/Cheek Balm in Avignon Rose as a base before setting with SheaMoisture Mineral Blush in Annecy Maroon for a natural, rosy flush on the cheeks.

  • I filled in Uzo’s brows using the two shades and setting wax within SheaMoisture The Perfect Brow Kit in Brown. I then applied SheaMoisture Color Correcting, Contouring and Highlighting Palette in Medium to further shape and define brows.
  • Using a wet eyeshadow brush, I applied the matte brown shade from SheaMoisture Rich Earth Palette in combination with SheaMoisture Wet/Dry Eyeshadow in Claudia to create a soft, smokey eye. Then, I added a pop of shimmer to the inner corner of the eyes with SheaMoisture Wet/Dry Eyeshadow in Cassandra. Lastly, I coated lashes with SheaMoisture Lengthening Mascara in Black for a fluttery lash look.

  • I first primed lips with a bit of foundation for a truly nude, matte base. Then the ultra-moisturizing and natural nude SheaMoisture Lip Crayon in Calixta was applied to the lips as the finishing touch to this classic, effortless beauty look.
