TREND REPORT: Tommy x Gigi Spring 2018 Show

At the Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2018 Milan Fashion Week, Celebrity Stylist Eugene Souleiman created the “Tommy Girl” hairstyle using the ghd air hairdryer, curve soft curl iron and the NEW gold professional styler.

Show: Tommy Hilfiger

Inspiration: Modern Athleticism - Eugene Souleiman creates understated cool at Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2018. For the final Tommy x Gigi show, Eugene Souleiman wanted to create a look that completely embodied the “Tommy Girl” fusing American heritage with modern athleticism.

“This is a very modern hairstyle, it’s been done with haste but still appears styled but natural. It’s a beautiful look with lots of texture. It encompasses the Tommy lifestyle, young, fun and free but with a bit of an edge. It’s about having an idea and tailoring the concept of the idea to suit the individual and her natural hairstyle, embracing their individuality and making them feel sexy.” -Eugene Souleiman

The Key Technique:
  1. The first step in creating this look was to comb the hair to reveal a center parting which is flattering for everyone.
  2. Each side was then spritzed with a light mist of EIMI Ocean Spritz to add texture and restyled using EIMI Sugar Lift.
  3. Next Eugene rolled the hair into two soft buns (each side of the head) and diffused for a couple of minutes using ghd air hairdryer ($199).
  4. Hair was then left to cool for a couple of seconds before being unraveled. EIMI Dry ME was then added to the roots and styled with hands to let air into it and give it a rawer more voluminous texture that was natural yet un-styled at the same time.
  5. To enhance movement the ghd curve soft curl iron ($199) was used on random sections of the hair. Eugene explains: “What we’re doing is something quite different, to get a looser, more natural feeling to the hair we’re using the ghd curve soft curl iron, wrapping hair around it and as we’re taking the hair away we’re stretching it so that it’s more of an “S” curl, less opulent, more understated. It’s more of a modern style, you’re still adding a bit of structure to the hair but it’s more relaxed.”
  6. To finish the look, Eugene added micro braids to random sections of the hair and gently clamped along the end of the braid with the NEW ghd gold professional styler ($199) to create a lightly crimped, dual texture.

Show: Versace Fall/Winter 2015

“This season, Donatella wanted each girl to be herself, but very glamorous, modern and sexy, which is always the look here at Versace. The hair is kind of natural in a sense, but in a way it feels very rock-and-roll. The key is keeping the personality – some girls have bangs and there are different lengths and textures to bring as much personality to the runway as possible. I used a curling iron to put a little rough texture in, so some girls are a bit wavier or more texturized than others. Then I drenched the hair with Redken’s Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist so it’s saturated in shine and very rich-looking to get that nighttime, urban feeling. The final look is very glamorous, but in a nonchalant way.” -Guido, Redken Global Creative Director

Prada Fall 2015 Ready To Wear Redken Recap

Show: PRADA Fall 2015 Ready To Wear - Milan

Putting a twist on the classic Prada look, Redken Global Creative Director Guido created a young, sophisticated updo adorned with beautiful jeweled barrettes for the Fall/Winter 2015 runway show in Milan. Recreating the look from Prada’s Men’s show, Guido used Redken’s Stay High 18 high-hold gel to mousse and Fashion Work 12 versatile working spray to pull the hair into a high, tight updo. Then, Guido hand-placed Prada’s bejeweled barrettes on each model for the perfect finishing touch.

“The look at Prada this season is really a redux of the hair that I created at the Men’s show, but this version is a little bit cleaner and very young, but in a sophisticated way. There’s always an offness to the classic beauty of Prada, and that’s the feeling that we achieved with this style. It has a slightly 50’s or 60’s kind of feeling, which is always Prada-like, but it’s still very modern and sort of futuristic. I used Redken’s Stay High 18, which is a very strong gel to mousse formula, to blow dry the hair up against the roots to pull it into this very high ponytail in the middle of the head. Then, I covered the elastic securing the ponytail with a piece of hair, and flipped the hair over into this little updo, holding it in place with the jeweled barrettes. I finished the style with Redken’s Fashion Work 12 hairspray to clean the hair up and hold the style in place. The loose ends of the ponytail give you that feeling of youngness and easiness, which adds to the modernity of the look.” - Guido

Redken Products Used: stay high 18 high-hold gel to mousse, fashion work 12 versatile working spray

Create The Look:
  1. Apply a quarter-size amount of Redken Stay High 18 high-hold gel to mousse to damp hair and blow dry flat against the head and away from the face
  2. Gather hair into a very high, tight ponytail in the middle of the head and secure with an elastic
  3. Hide the elastic by wrapping a small section of hair from the ponytail around the band, securing with a small U-shaped pin
  4. Section by section, backcomb the ponytail near the elastic to create volume
  5. Flip the length of the ponytail to one side and secure with closed fasteners (i.e., bobby pins) and a decorative barrette
  6. Finish with a thorough spray of Redken Fashion Work 12 versatile working spray to hold the style and clean up any flyaways

Alberta Ferretti Ready To Wear FW15 Redken Recap Milan

From the dark a winter sun arose on the backdrop of the Alberta Ferretti show on Wednesday, February 25. Did this stop the show? No. However, the stellar stylings were indeed showstoppers!

Show: ALBERTA FERRETTI Fall/Winter 2015 Milan Fashion Week

Hair: Guido, Redken Global Creative Director

To enhance the romance of Alberta Ferretti’s Fall/Winter 2015 Collection, Redken Global Creative Director Guido created a simple, soft low ponytail for the runway. To achieve a silky smooth texture with natural movement, Guido blow dried the hair using Redken’s Satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion, and then pulled it back into a loose ponytail for a romantic, pure feeling.

“The Alberta Ferretti woman is always very romantic and beautiful. This simple look is just that – it’s very romantic and pure without being too theatrical or overworked. I blow dried the hair using Redken’s Satinwear 02 to get a soft, smooth finish that isn’t too product-y, and then I pulled the hair back into a loose, low ponytail so it’s very baggy. I didn’t leave any pieces of hair loose around the face so that I could create that nice droop in the front and over the ears. There’s some natural movement throughout the length of the ponytail, which adds to the softness and the romance of the collection. -Guido, Redken Global Creative Director

Bottega Veneta MFW Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear Redken's Get The Look

Adding to the rich elegance of Bottega Veneta’s Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear show in Milan, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a feminine, casual updo that any woman can achieve on her own. Using Redken’s new wind blown 05 to add soft, natural texture and mess around 10 disrupting cream-paste to twist the hair back, Guido created a rich, ready-to-wear hairstyle that stunned on the runway.

“I created this very feminine, beautiful updo that’s very Bottega Veneta. It’s how every woman would like their hair to look, and feel comfortable enough to wear it like that. I started with clean, dry hair, and then used my main product, wind blown 05, which was really key to getting that great texture you can see. Then, I twisted the hair back and used little pins to hold it in place, but left a long bit sticking out so that it felt very casual. I finished the look by pulling out the little baby hairs all around the hairline, so the overall effect was very soft and feminine with a lot richness.” Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used: mess around 10 disrupting cream-paste, wind blown 05 dry finishing spray

How To Create The Look:
  1. Start with dry hair, and blow-dry hair straight back.
  2. Spray wind blown 05 dry finishing spray all over hair to add airy texture.
  3. Emulsify a dime-size amount of mess around 10 disrupting cream-paste in hands, and apply only to the hairline and top of head. Comb through using fingers.
  4. Twist hair back into a very loose knot, securing with small U-pins.
  5. Pull out a few wispy hairs around the hairline and finish with another mist of wind blown 05 dry finishing spray.

MFW SS 2015 Redken Roundup Dolce & Gabbana, Jil Sander, Roberto Cavalli

MFW SS 2015 Redken Roundup

Show: Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2015

Inspired by the modern-day Spanish woman, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a feminine, soft updo that captured the essence of the classic Dolce & Gabbana woman for their Spring/Summer 2015 show in Milan. Using Redken’s new wind blown 05 dry finishing spray to add airy texture to the hair before pulling it back into a loose bun with an effortless feeling. To finish the look, Guido adorned each model’s hair with rich floral arrangements and jewel-encrusted crowns, which have become a signature runway style look for Dolce & Gabbana.

“This look is very classically Dolce. It’s very soft, pretty and feminine – how girls want to look. I created these soft chignons with a Spanish feeling by using Redken’s wind blown 05 to create texture throughout the hair, and then pulled the hair back over the ears into a low, loose, sort of messy bun. It could look severe, but I’m doing it with my fingers to make it much softer for an overall feeling that’s very rich and luxurious.” Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

“The Jil Sander girl is always sort of masculine-feminine and very boyish. This simple, modern hairstyle really captures the essence of that girl. I used Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer and satinwear 02 all over the hair to get that natural, beautiful texture. Then I blow-dried the hair, using my fingers to create a deep side part and tucked the hair behind the ears for a very masculine, boyish feeling.” Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

To achieve this fresh-from-the-salon look, Guido used Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer and satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to blow-dry the hair smooth, but leaving the length natural for a rich, luxurious finish.

“It’s a very simple, minimal hairstyle at Cavalli this season, with a very rich feeling, almost like the girls just stepped out of the salon. I used satinwear 02 to blow-dry the hair smooth and then created a sort-of messy middle party with my fingers. After creating the part, I didn’t touch the hair again, so it feels very natural and luxurious with a little bit of sexiness.” Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

I created volume in the front with guts 10, and left the back natural to get that beautiful, modern texture. Prada MFW Spring/Summer 2015 Recap With Redken

It’s often the little things that make a big difference, and Redken Creative Consultant Guido proved this to be true with the hairstyle he created for Prada’s Spring/Summer 2015 show in Milan. Guido achieved this tough, yet sophisticated, low ponytail by using a combination of Redken’s mess around 10 disrupting cream-paste and Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist to add small details that made a bold statement on the runway.

“I cut bangs around the face of each of the girls to lend a boyish-ness to the hairstyle. This greasy, kind of tough-looking ponytail is really an indication of who the woman is. She’s very pulled together and sophisticated, but has a bit of a dark, eccentric edge. I used mess around 10 to get that rough texture, and then tucked the girls’ hair behind the ears so it has more of a boyish feeling. Then, I added some richness by spraying Diamond Oil High Shine on the top of the hair, and finished the look by pulling out baby hairs around the hairline and misting them with water so they stick to the face. It’s these tiny details that give a hairstyle a big impact.” Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used: mess around 10 disrupting cream-paste, Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist (launching in November)

Get The Look:
  1. If working with curly hair, rough blow-dry until 100% dry.
  2. Apply mess around 10 disrupting cream-paste to dry hair section-by-section from roots to mid-shaft (do not apply product to the ends).
  3. Gather hair into a rough low ponytail, securing at the nape of the neck with an elastic.
  4. Spray Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist from roots to the mid-shaft without spraying on the ponytail to keep it natural.
  5. Pull out the baby hairs around the face and spray with a light mist of water, allowing them to stick to the face.

Alberta Ferretti Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear Redken Get The Look

Show: Alberta Ferretti Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear

Redken Creative Consultant Guido played up Alberta Ferretti’s Spring Ready-to-Wear #MFW 2015 Collection with a natural, hippy-inspired hairstyle for the runway. “At this moment in time, easy hair feels the most modern, and that’s the overall feeling we get with this hairstyle. The Alberta Ferretti girl is kind of a hippie, but still very feminine and soft, so I left the hair a bit natural, with some nice chunky texture and loose curls. I sprayed fashion waves 07 throughout the hair, and then used two different sized curling irons to add more movement. Then, I applied more fashion waves 07 to pull out the curls a bit, creating that nice matte texture.” - Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products Used:
  • Diamond Oil Shampoo
  • Diamond Oil Conditioner
  • fashion waves 07 sea salt spray

Create The Look:
  1. Start with clean hair by washing with Diamond Oil Shampoo and Conditioner.
  2. Rough blow-dry, and then create a messy center part using fingers.
  3. Use a round brush to blow-dry the front of the hair until smooth.
  4. Spray fashion waves 07 sea salt spray throughout the hair to create some texture.
  5. Create additional movement by loosely wrapping underside pieces of hair around a ½-inch curling iron and face-framing pieces around a 1-inch curling iron.
  6. Apply another mist of fashion waves 07 sea salt spray throughout the hair to pull out some of the curl.
