Redken Paris Fashion Week Recap

Show: Valentino Fall/Winter 2015 - To continue the story of the feminine, romantic Valentino woman, Redken Global Creative Director Guido created a soft style adorned with the daintiest of braids for the Valentino’s Fall/Winter 2015 runway show.

“The Valentino woman always exudes this classic, feminine, romantic beauty, which is what the hair is all about this season. It’s down with natural, loose waves so it’s very easy feeling. I took two small pieces of hair from underneath the head on each side of the face and pulled them back into two little braids using Redken’s Braid Aid 03 to add grip and texture to hold the braids in place because they’re tiny, teeny braids. Then, I just pulled out one strand over the face to add something a little more interesting to the eye, but overall it’s a very classic look with the hair down and behind the ears.” -Guido

Redken Products Used: pillow proof blow dry express primer, satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion, braid aid 03 braid defining lotion, pillow proof blow dry two-day extender

Valentino - Create The Look:
  1. Spray Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer all over damp hair and comb through
  2. Apply a nickel-size amount of Redken Satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to damp hair, working into the hair from roots to ends
  3. Blow dry hair using a small, round, natural bristle brush
  4. Curl random pieces of hair using a 1-inch curling iron to add texture
  5. Take two tiny pieces of hair from each side of the head, apply a pea-size amount of Redken Braid Aid 03 braid defining lotion to strands from roots to ends, and braid each piece
  6. Pull the two small braids back toward the middle of the head and braid together to create one tiny braid down the back of the hair
  7. Finish by misting Redken Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer all over hair for added grip and texture
  8. Pull out a small strand of hair to cover the face slightly

Redken Global Creative Director Guido created an understated, elegant updo to enhance the richness and luxury on the runway at Hermès’ Fall/Winter 2015 runway show in Paris.

To play up the stony gray palette seen on the runway at Akris’s Fall/Winter 2015 show, Redken Global Creative Director Guido custom-cut wigs into a choppy bowl shape and colored each a beautiful shade of gray using Redken’s Shades EQ.

“The look at Akris this season is very Zen and cool, but still very luxurious and a little bit edgy. I custom cut these choppy, kind of punk-y wigs for each girl and then dyed them a few different shades of gray, so you have this very cool palette of grays on the runway. It’s a bit surfer-inspired, but still very modern with the different grays and textures.” -Guido

  8. Place wig on head
  9. Cut the wig into a choppy bowl-shape with short bangs

  11. To maintain the cool gray tones, use Redken Blonde Idol Custom-Tone Conditioner in violet as needed

Show: Celine Fall/Winter 2015

“The look at Celine this season is very simple and natural. I’m really letting each girl’s individual personality shine through by just enhancing the natural textures and movement in the hair. I cut shorter bangs on a few of the girls, which feels a bit more punk-y and eccentric with a slight ‘50’s feeling. I washed the hair with Redken’s Frizz Dismiss Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Conditioner, let it dry naturally, and then used the Frizz Dismiss FPF 10 Fly-Away Fix finishing sheets to get rid of those little fly-aways. The final look is not over-product-y, which makes it feel super rich and luxurious.” - Guido

Redken Products Used: Frizz Dismiss Sulfate-Free Shampoo, Frizz Dismiss Conditioner, Frizz Dismiss FPF 10 Fly-Away Fix finishing sheets

Show: Balenciaga Fall/Winter 2015

To modernize a classic look, Redken Global Creative Director Guido sculpted a chic, shiny chignon for Balenciaga’s Fall/Winter 2015 runway show in Paris.

“At Balenciaga, I created this very chic, sculpted chignon on the top of the crown that really accentuates the long neck and gives you a beautiful, elegant silhouette. It’s kind of futuristic feeling in the way it’s molded to the head, but it’s still very polished and stylized, which makes the style look very new to the eye again. Though the shape is based on something classic, the shiny, lacquer-like finish gives it a new, modern feeling.”  Guido

“I created this very long, asymmetrical side ponytail at Christian Dior this season, but it’s not your standard, fun, side pony. There’s something sinister and almost strange about it. It’s sophisticated, but very sci-fi and has somewhat of a child-like quality.” -Guido

Miu Miu PFW Spring/Summer 2015 Backstage With Redken Get The Look

Achieving a messy, rebellious look for Miu Miu’sSpring/Summer 2015 show in Paris, Redken Creative Consultant Guido used several texturizing and shine-inducing Redken products to achieve a wet style. “The hair is a classic shape, almost like a Catherine Deneuve style, but with this very modern texture. We opened up the face by pulling the hair off of it and adding a texturized sheen to the hair. I used fashion waves 07 sea salt spray as the main product to pull the hair back and then clipped the hair in so that the ears stick out, creating this rebellious feeling. I finished by heavily spraying the hair in forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to make it look a little bit wet,” Guido.

Redken Products Used: Diamond Oil High Shine Shampoo, Diamond Oil High Shine Conditioner, fashion waves 07 sea salt spray, forceful 23 super strength finishing spray, shine flash 02 glistening mist

How To Create The Look:

  1. Wash hair with Diamond Oil High Shine Shampoo and Conditioner.
  2. Spray fashion waves 07 sea salt spray all-over hair lengths and leave hair to dry naturally if hair is naturally straight or slightly wavy. If hair is slightly curly to very curly, blow-dry hair with fingers after applying fashion waves 07 sea salt spray to loosen the curl.
  3. Take top section of hair and comb straight-back with a fine-tooth comb so the hair on either side of the head is covering the ears. Secure with two bobby bins.
  4. Spray hair all-over with forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to hold hair in place and add an overall lacquered look.
  5. Finish with a touch of shine flash 02 glistening mist all-over for added shine.

In keeping with the statement of luxury that Hermès is known for, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created an elevated blow-out for the designer’s Spring/Summer 2015 show in Paris. “The Hermès look calls for a super-rich blow-out, a look we haven’t talked much about this fashion season. To achieve this voluminous hair, I applied guts 10 to damp hair and used a round brush to pull it away from the face. Once the hair dried, I ran my fingers through it to create this very easy, luxurious look,” Guido.

Akris Ready To Wear Spring 2015 PFW Redken Get The Look

Using the hair as an extension of the designer’s visor accessory, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a futuristic look at Akris’SS15 show in Paris. “Akris is very nostalgic as a brand with their whole aesthetic being quite minimal, so here we created very simple, futuristic hair. I used Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer to extend the blow dry and satinwear 02 prepping blow-dry lotion to create this very sleek look. Each girl is wearing a visor with the hair being part of the overall silhouette. The look feels a bit futuristic and clean, very minimalistic, with the hair being an accessory to the visor.” Guido

Backstage At Valentino PFW SS 2015 With Guido Palau

Evoking the idea of a carefree girl being in the sun for the first time, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a soft beach look for Valentino’s Spring/Summer 2015 show in Paris. “Valentino has a way of conjuring up what women want and this look is about this girl in the sun and in the sea, emphasizing the femininity of the classic Valentino girl. We have this very soft, wavy style and a beautiful tiara in the back of the hair with gold shells to conjure up the spirit of the summer. I used fashion waves 07 to create the waves and then used an iron to add additional movement. The wind blown 05 makes the waves look a little bit deconstructed and imperfect. This beautiful gold tiara, with the gold being the Valentino signature look, is placed in the back with the hair wrapped around the band to cover it and really emphasize the shell adornments,” Guido.

Redken Products Used: Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer, fashion waves 07 sea salt spray, wind blown 05 dry finishing spray

How To Create The Look:
  1. Apply Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer to damp hair, layering with fashion waves 07 sea salt spray.
  2. Create a center part and blow-dry hair with hands, twisting hair section by section to create movement.
  3. Curl hair section by section using a 1-inch curling iron.
  4. Loosen the curls with fingers and spray hair once again with fashion waves 07 sea salt spray, layering with wind blown 05 dry finishing spray to provide added texture.
  5. Apply gold headband to back of head, taking hair and wrapping around the gold headband in-between the shell adornments to hide the band. Secure with open fasteners.

Redken Recap Alexander McQueen PFW SS 2015

Melding futurism and classicism into one, Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a Japanese-inspired look for Alexander McQueen’sSpring/Summer 2015 show in Paris.

“With McQueen, it is always about the yin and the yang – the push and the pull. The hair here is reminiscent of the hair in Japanese sumo, a bold Asian-inspired style that, when paired with the mask, becomes very futuristic. When working with Sarah [Burton], there’s always this combination of avant-garde and classicism that she ignites. I wanted the hair to feel almost traditional, but the wet hair look allowed it to become more modern – it is a balance of the two. The hair is saturated with hardwear 16 super strong hair gel which is combed through. The goal was to have the hair flattened so it creates this shape so I used a card to help fold the hair like pastry and pin it up, keeping it in place with forceful 23 super strength finishing spray,” Guido.

PFW SS 2015 Redken Roundup: Celine, Christian Dior, Lanvin, Loewe, Maison Martin Margiela

From the refined style of Celine to the modern style of Dior and everything in between, Redken International Creative Consultant GuidoPaulo gives us the inspiration and complete “Get The Look” for Paris Fashion Week!

Show: Celine Spring/Summer 2015

Redken Creative Consultant Guido created a classic, refined style that captured the essence of the sophisticated Celine woman for their Spring/Summer 2015 show in Paris. “The Celine look is super chic and super rich. Again, it is that beautiful easy texture we have been seeing throughout the whole fashion season. We put the hair up halfway and added these elegant gold barrettes that Celine has made that look just like a beautiful circle in the hair. It’s amazing how that one simple hair accessory can elevate this simple hairstyle into something super rich and modern. By adding Pillow Proof Blow Dry Two Day Extender and wind blown 05 dry finishing spray, the hair has this textured look that is super easy but very luxe.” Guido

  2. Thoroughly mist Pillow Proof Blow Dry express primer all over damp hair. If working with straight hair, let air-dry. If wavy or curly, blow-dry hair using a round brush.

  4. Secure with barrette.

Show: Christian Dior Spring/Summer 2015

Creating the perfect combination of modern and natural, Guido let the hair make its own simple, fresh statement at Christian Dior’s Spring/Summer 2015 show in Paris. “Dior’s look is modern and very sophisticated in its non-reference to anything else but to now. I think that’s the great thing about natural hair, it doesn’t reference a specific period of time. It really, truly is a modern look. When the clothes are this beautiful, they see the natural hair and that's enough. For a modern designer like Raf, he imagines this girl of today and doesn’t reference any other era. To enhance this overall attitude, I used Diamond Oil High Shine Shampoo and Conditioner and let the hair air-dry. The center part and hair tucked behind the ears is a look that still feels luxurious but is something that real woman can identify with.” Guido

Show: Lanvin Spring/Summer 2015

For Lanvin’s Spring/Summer 2015 show in Paris, Guido created a classic knot accompanied by an elegant gold hair accessory to complement the range of both young and mature models, emphasizing Lanvin’s ability to adapt to all types of beauty. “I did very simple hair here with mess around 10 disrupting cream-paste and using my fingers to rake the hair back and put it in a classic knot. I applied a gold hair accessory underneath the knot to add a little bit of sheath and glamour. I used forceful 23 super strength finishing spray to build some shine and accentuate my raked hair, creating a very classic look. The show features a wide mix of girls – some feminine and some mature, which proves just how conducive Lanvin is to different kinds of beauty.” Guido

Show: Loewe Spring/Summer 2015

At Loewe’s Spring/Summer 2015 show in Paris, Guido created a very natural style, which has been a prominent look throughout many, shows this season. “This look is a very natural one, with an off-center side part and this texture that we have been seeing a lot during this Fashion Week season. It almost feels like the new blow-out but its super-rich looking and highlights this extremely healthy, luxurious hair. I washed the hair with the new Diamond Oil High Shine Shampoo and Conditioner for added shine and let it dry naturally, and then ran the hairdryer through the hairline to make sure it looks really beautiful. Then just tuck the hair behind the ears and go.” Guido

Show: Maison Martin Margiela Spring/Summer 2015

Guido replicated a "caught in the rain" look at Maison Martin Margiela’s Spring/Summer 2015 show in Paris to complement the unexpected feminine twists within the collection. “The hair here is a wet, just got out of the shower look so we are leaving in the hair Redken’s Extreme Anti-Snap leave-in treatment. We dampened the dry hair with water using a spray bottle to add a look of controlled wetness and combed the hair back. Just before going on the runway, we spritzed the hairline with the Extreme Anti-snap so it feels like it is sticking to neck, creating a very sensual and womanly look.” Guido
