Easy Beat The Heat Twisted Rope Braid How To

It's summer and while we all know how hot and humid it gets, this week is especially brutal. Aside from the insane things that the weather does to our hair, does anyone really want to spend a ton of time with a complicated coif? Team TME is sharing one of our Pureology favorites that is an easy-to-do style and so perfect for beating the heat, as well as easily transitioning into a nighttime look!

Get The Look – Quick and Easy Twisted Rope Braid

Step 1: On damp hair, apply Pureology Smooth Perfection Shaping Control Gel, from roots to tips. Blow-dry, on lowest setting, using a medium round brush to create shape and volume.

Step 2: Gather all lengths to the side and dived into two sections, allowing pieces around the face to fall out.

Step 3: Apply Pureology Colour Stylist Anti Breakage Twist Shine Texturizer to both sections for added texture and definition.

Step 4: With a section of hair in each hand, twist both sections to the right until all the hair is twisted, creating two strands of twisted hair.

Step 5: Cross the right strand over the left strand and continue this pattern until you’ve achieved a rope braid.

Step 6: To lock the braids together, tease the ends and secure with an elastic. Finish the look with Colour Stylist Supreme Control.

Pro Tip: To take this look from day to night, wrap the braid into a bun, secure with pins and add a pretty hair wrap like this one from inSowni

Summer Hair Care Tips with Pureology Artistic Ambassador Ruth Roche

For several seasons, beach waves and “lived-in” looks have been in vogue for hair with a popularity brought about from the runway to Coachella … and these looks show no signs of an exit. Why would they? Beach waves and “just out of bed” hair is sexy and so easily achieved! A big bonus to these looks is the advantage of not having to re-do your ‘do the next day. For those of us with color-treated hair, another bonus is the incentive to not over-cleanse our hair, which ultimately results in expedited color fading and hair damage.

Pureology offers up a different way to cleanse hair with the Pureology Cleansing Condition range. The Pureology Cleansing Condition range offers three low-foam cleansing treatments that gently cleanse the hair while simultaneously softening, improving elasticity and helping preserve color. The line is customizable based on hair type and is versatile as Cleansing Conditions feature gentle formulas that can be used on their own or incorporated into one’s existing regimen, resulting in hair that is healthy.

  • Pureology Hydrate Cleansing Condition - For normal to dry color-treated hair. Features rosemary extract to deeply nourish and soften.
  • Pureology Strength Cure Cleansing Condition - For micro-scarred/damaged color-treated hair. Features Pureology’s signature Asta-Repair to fortify and restore.
  • Pureology Smooth Perfection Cleansing Condition - For frizz-prone color-treated hair. Features camellia oil to smooth and control frizz.

Pureology Artistic Ambassador Ruth Roche Tips To Keep Your Summer Color:

  1. For anyone, but especially those with color-treated hair, try incorporating a cleansing condition like Pureology’s Cleansing Conditions ($34 each), into your regular hair care regimen 1-2 times per week. Because Pureology’s formulas are low-foam and created specifically for color-treated hair with the AntiFade Complex, they help to maintain a healthy cuticle for smooth strands that retain your color.
  2. Conditioning cleansers are great for curly hair because most curly hair clients find that shampooing her hair every day with regular shampoo tends to dry it out. Conditioning cleansers keep more moisture in the hair, keeping hair from getting too big and the curls from separating.
  3. In terms of usage, if your hair and scalp tends to be drier, once a week is sufficient. If your hair is on the normal side, 2 to 3 times per week is great. If your hair is thin, alternate to three times a week with regular shampoo and once a week with cleansing conditioner.

Pureology's Secret To Repairing Summer Hair

Experience the first care system for fragile, color-treated hair that has been high-lifted or highlighted four levels or more … Pureology Perfect 4 Platinum. Perfect 4 Platinum delivers concentrated keravis 1 to replenish and plump the keratin gaps, equalizing porosity. Chamomile extract improves overall suppleness and softness. Lemon extract clarifies and smoothes the cuticle for enhanced shine. Finally, coriander creates a mirrored surface to magnify shine.

Keravis – a vegetable protein – replenishes and plumps keratin gaps to strengthen the hair, keeping it strong, healthy, shiny and able to grow longer. Hair is left even more nourished and softened with plant extracts of chamomile, lemon and coriander, which are featured throughout the full Pureology Perfect 4 Platinum system. To use the Miracle Filler Treatment, simply apply the reparative lotion daily to damp hair, blow dry and style as usual.

  • Perfect 4 Platinum Shampoo ($27.50): Gentle, detangling Zero Sulfate shampoo cleanses and softens, while enhancing brightness and shine.
  • Perfect 4 Platinum Condition ($29.50): Intensely moisturizing and nourishing, daily conditioner. Instantly detangles and leaves hair exceptionally fortified and soft with intense shine.
  • Perfect 4 Platinum Cool Blonde Enhancing Treatment ($32): Restores longer-lasting, truer and cooler blonde color while deep conditioning high-lifted blonde hair between salon visits. Features a special neutralizing violet dye to embellish the hair fiber and neutralize brassiness while a caring cream formula deeply conditions
  • Perfect 4 Platinum Reconstruct Repair Masque ($5.50): Instant, weightless nourishing and strengthening masque that is enriched with five times the keravis. Equalize and evens-out porosity. Penetrates deep into hair’s cuticle to strengthen, soften and rescue high-lifted or highlighted hair with an intense dose of strength.
  • Perfect 4 Platinum Miracle Filler Treatment ($26): Daily blow-dry reparative lotion contains fifteen times the keravis that fills in gaps in hair’s cuticle, leaving high-lifted or highlighted blonde hair 78% stronger after one application.

Spring and Summer Style from Pureology

Looking for fresh and easy hairstyle ideas for your busy schedule? Aren’t we all? Team TME caught up with Pureology Artist Sandra Joseph who shared how to quickly take your look from poolside to a night on the town without skipping a beat. Super easy and beautiful the “two looks, one technique” style for Spring and Summer 2015 will get you out the door and to your destination in no time!

Bubble Ponytail Into Bubble Chignon - How To

Step 1: Begin by taking a parting above the left corner of the eye and slicing a diagonal line to the right corner in the back of the head. This will create two large sections of hair. Keeping the hair soft, apply a small amount of Pureology Colour Stylist Anti Breakage Twist shine texturizer throughout both sections to add extra texture and shine.

Step 2: Secure a ponytail with an elastic in the right section. Add another elastic 1-2 inches beneath the first elastic. Push up the second elastic to create a bubble.

Step 3: Gather all hair from the left section and secure with an elastic to the right ponytail, making one ponytail. Add another elastic 1-2 inches lower and again, push up the elastic to create a bubble. Continue this pattern until you reach the end of the ponytail. Layer Pureology Strengthening Control zero dulling hairspray throughout the Bubble Pony for added support and shine.

Step 4: To create a finished look, drape the Bubble Ponytail over one shoulder.

Step 5: For an easy chignon, take the Bubble Ponytail you created using the above steps and roll around the base, securing with pins. Finish with another light mist of Pureology Strengthening Control zero dulling hairspray for added hold.

Grammy 2015 Celebrity Hair Get The Look With Redken and Pureology

From AC/DC kicking off the show to Madonna’s risqué performance, there was no shortage of high notes at last night’s Grammy Awards. One of the biggest surprises of the night was Beck’s “Album of the Year” win, who together with wife Marissa Ribisi, seemed as surprised as the rest of the audience when he won the award.

Tracey Cunningham, Redken Celebrity Colorist helped Chrissy Teigen and Beck’s wife, actress Marissa Ribisi, prepare for the awards with Redken color and shares with us her secrets below.

Marissa Ribisi: Tracey applied Redken Chromatics, an ammonia-free permanent haircolor providing up to 100% gray coverage, to Marissa’s base. She followed with Redken’s NEW Blonde Idol High Lift Conditioning Cream Color from the Professional Haircolor Collection (coming to salons this March) to create subtle highlights for added dimension.

To continue to protect the haircolor after their service, Tracey recommends that her clients use Redken Color Extend Magnetics Sulfate-Free Haircare to seal in color and deliver maximum vibrancy and shine.

Pureology Experts Recreate Favorite Looks From The Golden Globes

Despite there being many gorgeous updo’s at last night’s 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards, worn so well by Taylor Schilling and Kate Hudson, gorgeous side-swept hairstyles ultimately took home the gold. Pureology International Artistic Director Wendy Bélanger and Pureology Artistic Ambassador Sandra Joseph share step-by-steps on how to recreate last night’s favorite looks including Allison Williams’ glam waves, Jennifer Aniston’s updo and Jennifer Lopez’s beach waves.

Allison Williams Glam Waves (recreated by Wendy Bélanger):
  1. To get Allison’s deep side part with beautiful glam bombshell waves, blowdry hair with a round brush. Create a deep side part after applying a quarter sized amount of Pureology Colour Stylist Silk Bodifier volumizing mousse. Blend with a dime-sized amount of Colour Stylist Nourishing Nectar sculpting gel for added hold and blowdry.
  2. Using a 1” - 1¼” iron, set the hair in diagonal back partings across the top and crown of the hair and a brick layer pattern going down on the back and sides.
  3. Let cool and apply a small amount of Colour Stylist Cuticle Polisher shine serum to your hands until it transforms to a serum. Run your fingers through your hair to separate curls and add separation.
  4. Tuck smaller side behind your ear and finish with Colour Stylist Strengthening Control zero dulling hairspray for moveable hold and humidity resistance.

Jennifer Aniston (recreated by Sandra Joseph):
  1. Begin by applying Pureology Colour Stylist Root Lift spray hair mousse to damp hair from roots to ends for texture and grip.
  2. Rough dry roots with fingers, finishing the mid-lengths and ends with a medium round brush.
  3. Mist Fresh Approach Dry Shampoo throughout root area for added texture and separation.
  4. Create a left side part, gather all hair to the center back of the head and secure into a ponytail.
  5. Split ponytail in two sections. Lightly backcomb, then twist both sections together.
  6. Wrap the twist into a bun, loosen with fingers and pin into place with fasteners.
  7. For a long-lasting hold, finish with Colour Stylist Supreme Control high hold hairspray for colour-treated hair.

Jennifer Lopez (recreated by Sandra Joseph):
  1. To prime and protect colour-treated locks like Jen’s, mist Pureology Colour Fanatic throughout damp hair.
  2. Apply several pumps of Highlight Stylist Bodifying Luminator texturizing shine-foam and blowdry with a medium round brush.

New Hairstyle Inspirations For The New Year

As the year comes to a close, we all get the itch for change as we prepare to start fresh in the New Year. To give us a dose of inspiration for a new 2015 ‘do, Pureology Artistic Ambassador Natasha Sunshine shares her favorite haircuts for all lengths and tips on how to choose the best cut for your face shape.

Strong & Short: Kristen Stewart transformed herself from girl-next-door to Hollywood goddess with her sleek, short-layered haircut.
  • Best on: Oval face shapes
  • Best hair texture: Fine to medium, thick hair can look too masculine
  • Favorite product: Pureology Colour Stylist Density Definer medium hold crème wax
  • Styling time: 5 minutes
How to Style: Apply a nickel to quarter size of Pureology Colour Stylist Density Definer medium hold crème wax to damp hair. Emulsify product until it is evenly spread across both palms. Pat palms all over, making sure to cover all areas of the head. To finish, rake your hair back and tuck hair behind ears.

The Undone Bob: Model Karlie Kloss proves that cute can be sexy too with her playful, layered bob. The key to this style is mastering the “undone” style.
How to Style: Spray Pureology Curl Complete Uplifting Curl on damp hair and scrunch in. Apply a dollop of Colour Stylist Cuticle Polisher shine serum, evenly distributing throughout. Blowdry on a medium setting and scrunch a natural texture into the hair. If hair looks too undone and messy, use a 1” barrel iron on every other section of the hair. Point the tip of your iron towards the floor and wind hair in a spiral fashion away from the face (tip: just the ends is fine when curling hair at this length). Scrunch ironed curls and natural texture together to get a more polished yet not-too-perfect wave.

Layered Lob with Fringe: Alexa Chung nails it with this winning combo of almost blunt bangs and a long layered bob. The hint of auburn in her dark brown hair is the perfect accent to her sultry cut.
How to Style: Add a pea to dime size dollop of Colour Stylist Nourishing Nectar sculpting gel to damp hair. Distribute product evenly throughout. Blowdry fringe (bangs) with a medium-sized round brush. Scrunch the rest of your hair until dry. Add a dime size of Colour Stylist Piecing Sculpt high-holding sculpting fiber paste to ends for added shine and texture from mid-shafts to ends.

Classic Long Layers: The always stunning Blake Lively wears her golden locks in classic long layers. Be sure to add dimension to hair color, whether blonde or brunette, to make this style look its best.
  • Best on: Most face shapes
  • Best Hair Texture: Medium to thick hair
  • Favorite product: Pureology Colour Stylist Cuticle Polisher shine serum
  • Styling time: 25-35 minutes
How to Style: Apply a generous dollop of Colour Stylist Cuticle Polisher shine serum from mid-shaft to ends. Flip head over and blowdry while scrunching until dry. Using a 1 ½” barrel curling iron, grab large pieces (about 2-3” in diameter) and wrap around the iron in a spiral fashion. Change direction on each section and change the height at which you start the curl. For example, only curl the last 6” inches on some sections, the last 3” on others and some all the way from the root. Rotate all options to create a natural-looking texture. Scrunch all sections together once done and if necessary, flip head back over and add heat from the dryer to loosen curls. For added shine, add a touch more of Colour Stylist Cuticle Polisher.
