CoverGirl Launches ‘Embrace Your Face’ With Tips From Sam Fine

Have you ever purchased foundation only to find out that it wasn’t the correct coverage or shade for your skin? Of course you have! We all have and it is so frustrating! CoverGirl aimed to solve this issue with its recent launch of the “Embrace Your Face Makeup Finder,” along with tips from one of TME’s favorite makeup artists, Sam Fine.

The fact is that when it comes to choosing a foundation we have more choice than ever and with that means more opportunities to make a mistake. When we’re standing in the store, we have to consider factors including skin type, coverage level, shade and finish! That can add up to a major amount of time being wasted trying to figure all of it out.

CoverGirl’s new “Embrace Your Face Makeup Finder” is a simple to use digital foundation finding tool -- a foolproof way to find the right CoverGirl foundation for you in 30 seconds flat -- making it the perfect sidekick as you shop the beauty aisle. To celebrate the tool’s launch online at CoverGirl, makeup artist Sam Fine set out to debunk the most common foundation myths and share some of his all-time favorite foundation tips!

CoverGirl Makeup Artist Sam Fine’s Foundation Myths + Tips for a Flawless Look

1.  One of the most common places women test out foundation is on their wrist. Forget it! Instead, test it along your jawline to find a more accurate match!

2.  Do you have oily skin? Try a water-based foundation like truBLEND Liquid Foundation! It’s seamless & feels lightweight on skin!

3.  Not sure which foundation is right for your skin type? Choose Clean Liquid Foundation -- it’s perfect for normal, sensitive or oily skin!

4.  Powder is to foundation what topcoat is to nail polish! Use a large brush to apply powder for a soft, diffused finish! Don’t skip this step!

5.  Mature skin requires moisture, so use this breakthrough formula from CoverGirl and Olay, Simply Ageless Foundation!

6.  A “no-makeup” look is just that, a LOOK! Apply liquid foundation, then gently tissue it off for a second-skin effect!

7.  You won’t need primer when using Outlast Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation! It delivers full coverage AND a matte finish in just one step.

Queen Latifah’s Winning Look at the 2014 People’s Choice Awards

Queen Latifah is one of the most elegant and beloved women in entertainment, as proven by both her chic, understated Red Carpet look and, of course, QL’s Jan. 8 award for Favorite New Talk Show Host at the People’s Choice Awards. The award marks a first for the entertainer, who beat out Arsenio Hall, Bethenny Frankel, Jenny McCarthy, and Ross Mathews.

Ever gracious, the 43-year-old took to Twitter to thank her fans: “I DO THIS FOR THE PEOPLE!!! Thank you SONY, CBS, My PARTNERS and the PEOPLE!!!” Queen tweeted to her fans after picking up the award. But, not before giving a shout out to her Glam Squad! “My glam squad @SamFineBeauty 4 @COVERGIRL, @TimothySnell1 4 my couture creation & @HAIRSAVVY1 4 the fresh haircut! @Pantene #PeoplesChoice”.

The @SamFineBeauty in the Twitter post is none other than celebrity makeup artist and CoverGirl Ambassador, Sam Fine for whom The Makeup Examiner was able to get the complete 411 for Queen Latifah’s Red Carpet look! The simple-chic, black drop-waste dress was an Angela Dean, which QL’s longtime stylist Tim Snell picked for the show. Sam Fine revealed that once Tim revealed his interpretation of the LBD, QL immediately requested a simple eye, glowing skin, and a striking lip. “So, when the Queen makes a request… I aim to please!,” said Fine.

How To Get The Look from Sam Fine:

Face - Every look begins with great skin - beautiful coverage and a gorgeous glow! I always begin using truBLEND Fixstick concealer one shade lighter than her complexion. It’s perfect to highlight the under eye area, the bridge of the nose and chin (areas where the light naturally hits the face). After, I use a synthetic foundation brush to gently apply truBLEND Liquid Makeup to unify varied tones.

I used Queen Collection Lasting Matte Pressed Powder to set underneath the eyes and the center of the face, and then applied my favorite bronzer, Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer, near the outer perimeter of the face for glowing results. I often use two shades of bronzer – one that matches her skin tone, which takes the place of blush, and a deeper shade – to contour and warm her complexion.

Eyes - A simple, clean eye doesn’t mean that I don’t use eye shadow; it means I used natural looking shades to enhance the shape of her almond eyes. Using a large brush, I swept the eye with Queen Collection Eyeshadow Pot in Dazzle (Q185) to add warmth, richness and a touch of shimmer to the eye area. Then, I applied Vivid Impact Eyeliner in Midnight (300) closest to the lashline, extending it at the outer corner to lift the eye. Lastly, I applied individual lashes and few coats of Bombshell Volume Mascara in Very Black (800) for volume and intensity.

Lips - Now, the fun part … a dramatic lip! I always begin with liner to shape the lip and insure a long – lasting finish throughout the night. I applied LipPerfection Lipliner in Beloved (225). Using a lip brush for added precision, I applied Queen Collection Lip Color in Burgendelicious (Q410) for an effortless, yet glamorous finish!
