OCC Launches New Products at Sephora

OCC announced Tuesday, May 27, the launch of two products with Sephora. Tarred & Feathered Lip Balm the product that launched Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics ten years ago is back, as well as two In Your Face Kits brought to you exclusively by Sephora.

“As we approach 10 years of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, it has all the really some full circle,” says OCC Founder and Creative Director David Klasfeld, “and we couldn’t think of a better time to bring these cult-status products to every makeup fanatic, both consumer and professional alike.” Tarred & Feathered Lip Balm ($18) Formulated with a moisturizing complex made from Hemp Seed Oil, Pomegranate Seed Oil, and Avocado Oil, OCC Lip Balm balances lip hydration, preparation, and color correction.

“Tarred” Lip Balm veils the lips with sheer black, giving subtle definition and depth to the lips without hiding the natural lip color. Used with other lip products, ‘Tarred” adds depth of tone to any shade. “Feathered” Lip Balm creates a gesso-like blank canvas, allowing other lip products to read more true to color. Worn alone, ‘Feathered’ mutes the natural lip color for an understated nude finish.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics introduces ‘Dune Generation’ Stained Gloss

Available today May 20, Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics brings a heat wave of shade and texture options to our most popular new lip offering: Stained Gloss! Inspired not by the beach but the dunes, desert plains, and mirages reminiscent of otherworldly vacation destinations.

Sephora Launches Beauty Board

Sephora announced on March 13, the launch of Beauty Board. The new social shopping platform is designed to allow beautynistas an opportunity to upload photos, tag the products they use, and share how-to tips with other users.

In conjunction with the social factor for beautynistas, users can browse through Sephora’s own photo gallery and go directly to Sephora to shop. “Our [beautynistas] are gathering and sharing beauty tips across a variety of social properties like Instagram and Pinterest, as well as our blog and beauty community site,” said Julie Bornstein, EVP, Chief Marketing and Digital Officer at Sephora. “So we took what we admire as social users to the next level by developing and integrating our newest social site, Beauty Board”.

To use Beauty Board, log in with your current Sephora account (or sign up), Beauty Board will simultaneously launch on desktop and mobile at the same time, making it easy for users to upload their photos via their mobile devices.

The Beauty Board features:
  • Filters Based On Interest: Need a great smoky eye look? Want to see other people's skincare routines? The Beauty Board allows members to search across the site for inspiration from other users in a variety of ways, from newest and most popular, to unique categories like hauls and skincare, plus keyword and hashtag search. 
  • Tag-able Beauty – Beauty Board users can tag all the products they used in their posts, so other beauty addicts can get the same look and shop for any of the tagged products.
  • Save A Look: Users can “Love” photos to be saved for later – Love a look, but don't have an occasion for it just yet? No problem – save it for later by "Loving" it. 
  • Infinite Inspiration: Browse an endless amount of photos from multiple beauty evangelists including Sephora Users, Stores, Beauty Pro Team, HQ staff, and Brands. 
  • Share: Any upload can be exported to users social channels on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and Google Plus.

Sephora pulls ‘Celebutard’ lipstick from shelves

In response to outrage across the Internet, cosmetics giant Sephora, on Nov. 6 pulled a questionably named lipstick from its shelves and issued an apology. The lipstick? From Kat Von D’s “Painted Love Lipstick” line that offered a nude peach beige shade named “Celebutard” the meaning of which, defined by the Urban Dictionary is: “A famous stupid person. Typically refers to the current crop of vapid celebrities.”

Kat Von D, a.k.a. Katherine von Drachenberg, a tattoo artist best known for her reality show “LA Ink,” launched her makeup line, exclusively at Sephora, in 2008. The “Celebutard” lipstick is part of the Kat Von D makeup line that includes a full spectrum of cosmetics. The “Painted Love Lipstick” line includes names that are intended to be edgy; like Backstage Bambi, Lolita, and Underage Red.

“Glee” star Lauren Potter, who has Down syndrome, took to Twitter on Nov. 5 to express her outrage with a very simple, yet poignant post: “Really @sephora celebutard? Not cool”. And by yesterday Nov. 6, Kat Von D’s “Painted Love Lipstick” with the offending name, was no longer available. In conjunction with pulling “Celebutard,” Sephora issued a statement to consumers. It has come to our attention that the name of one shade of a lipstick we carry has caused offense to some of our clients and others. We are deeply sorry for that, and we have ceased sale of that shade both in our stores and online.

Great news, as we endeavor to become a more sensitive and caring society. Unfortunately, in the zeal to call attention to one particular offensively named product, another, “Underage Red,” was apparently completely missed! With daily headlines screaming of crimes against minors, “Underage Red” seems like a highly inappropriate name for lipstick. This begs to question, are we a society that screams outrage for the sake of screaming or do we sincerely care about protecting those that aren’t able to protect themselves?
