TREND REPORT: Tommy x Gigi Spring 2018 Show

At the Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2018 Milan Fashion Week, Celebrity Stylist Eugene Souleiman created the “Tommy Girl” hairstyle using the ghd air hairdryer, curve soft curl iron and the NEW gold professional styler.

Show: Tommy Hilfiger

Inspiration: Modern Athleticism - Eugene Souleiman creates understated cool at Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2018. For the final Tommy x Gigi show, Eugene Souleiman wanted to create a look that completely embodied the “Tommy Girl” fusing American heritage with modern athleticism.

“This is a very modern hairstyle, it’s been done with haste but still appears styled but natural. It’s a beautiful look with lots of texture. It encompasses the Tommy lifestyle, young, fun and free but with a bit of an edge. It’s about having an idea and tailoring the concept of the idea to suit the individual and her natural hairstyle, embracing their individuality and making them feel sexy.” -Eugene Souleiman

The Key Technique:
  1. The first step in creating this look was to comb the hair to reveal a center parting which is flattering for everyone.
  2. Each side was then spritzed with a light mist of EIMI Ocean Spritz to add texture and restyled using EIMI Sugar Lift.
  3. Next Eugene rolled the hair into two soft buns (each side of the head) and diffused for a couple of minutes using ghd air hairdryer ($199).
  4. Hair was then left to cool for a couple of seconds before being unraveled. EIMI Dry ME was then added to the roots and styled with hands to let air into it and give it a rawer more voluminous texture that was natural yet un-styled at the same time.
  5. To enhance movement the ghd curve soft curl iron ($199) was used on random sections of the hair. Eugene explains: “What we’re doing is something quite different, to get a looser, more natural feeling to the hair we’re using the ghd curve soft curl iron, wrapping hair around it and as we’re taking the hair away we’re stretching it so that it’s more of an “S” curl, less opulent, more understated. It’s more of a modern style, you’re still adding a bit of structure to the hair but it’s more relaxed.”
  6. To finish the look, Eugene added micro braids to random sections of the hair and gently clamped along the end of the braid with the NEW ghd gold professional styler ($199) to create a lightly crimped, dual texture.

Tommy Hilfiger’s Tommy Now Rock Circus x ghd

Tommy Hilfiger’s Tommy Now Rock Circus was in full swing at Camden’s iconic Roundhouse to launch his Fall 2017 collection where Eugene Souleiman, Wella Professionals Global Creative Director and ghd Fashion Week Ambassador, created individual rock inspired looks for each of the models. The show came to life through a backdrop of aerial acrobatics, which set the scene for the reveal of the latest collection from Tommy X Gigi headlined by the ultimate Tommy Girl, Gigi Hadid and joined by siblings Bella and Anwar.

“There was a real rock concert feel to the show this season and for me, I wanted to create a look that was disheveled, raw and full of texture. Each look was individual, diverse and imperfect. I created an anti-cosmetic approach to the hair –a juxtaposition to the glamorous make up look to allow the girls personalities to come through. The feeling for me is still a Tommy Girl, just tougher and more urban. She’s not textbook pretty or perfectly groomed straight from the salon. She just naturally throws things together, has her own individual style –the kind of girl everyone wants to be. Totally effortless.” -Eugene Souleiman.

Eugene took a laid-back approach to getting the hair show-ready, using EIMI products and ghd tools. Each hair look heroed individuality and transported each model into the cool rock and roll Tommy world.

“The vibe is very cool. I wanted the hair to have a loose, nonchalant look that was very youthful. The hair needed to look unwashed, a couple of days old from dancing away at your favorite gig.”

Get The Look:

To start the look Eugene sprayed abundant amounts of Wella Professionals Elements Conditioning Leave in Spray at the roots. The ghd curve soft curl iron was used to create broken movement and disrupt the hair’s texture.

For Georgia May Jagger, I twisted her hair into a low ponytail and sprayed with EIMI Perfect Setting before letting the hair loose and diffusing with ghd air hair dryer to create a natural wave. We sprayed a fine mist of EMI Sugar Lift to create separation and increase the movement.

For other girls, Eugene used the ghd curve soft curl iron to create broken movement and disrupt the hair’s texture. For this look, I wanted to craft a rock and roll feel to the hair.

Voluminous hair was tamed by flattening the roots with a hair net blow dried with the ghd air hair dryer to create a clean center parting. EIMI Sugar Lift was used to tame the roots and on ends of the hair to enhance the texture. A light mist of EIMI Perfect Setting was then applied to finish the look.
